Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.

The hotel is just right inside the Kyoto JR Station. The main bus station to sight seeing points is just right outside the central exit. We stayed in the new renovated twin-bed room 954 facing the train station with a great city view. The room was large and it was able to open 2

Súper liked this hotel!!!!! Rooms are very confortable and spacious! Shower is great with lots of amenities to enjoy! Locación is fantastic for tourism besides you can ride the train in just few minutes to get anywhere. Concierge attention was the best received in a long time.

An absolutely beautiful hotel. Numerous restaurants inside the hotel. We ate breakfast at Le Temps. Outstanding! Free WiFi is always a plus. Beautiful, well kept rooms. Friendly staff. Conveniently located in and around Kyoto. It is a couple hours drive from the airport.

The location of the hotel is singular. Check-in staff should be better trained as they are unable to fulfill any request you have besides the standard check-in/check-out. Arrived and hour before the check-in time and asked if the room was ready, but was met by a very rude

Hotel Granvia is located in Kyoto Station which makes it a very convenient and central location for a short visit to the city. We arrived by Shinkansen with gates in the south part of the station. A short walk brings you to the lobby of the hotel. We did ask for directions just

It is not open 24 hours and costs about ¥1,100 for a whole day’s use (if I remember correctly). They just renovated their fitness center and replaced all the weight machines. They had some sort of strange pulley system weight machines before but now they have proper weight machines. They have one combo setup where you can do bench press, incline press, shoulder press and lat pull downs. They have a set of free weights that go up to 40 or 50 lbs. There are a few cardio machines like treadmills and step machines. Not a lot of people use the fitness center. There might be one or two people there. I try to book only hotels with fitness centers and Hotel Gravia Kyoto has one of the better ones.

The Granvia is located at Kyoto station, so you can easily get from Tokyo to Kyoto by train. The train is faster than the limousine, although it's also more expensive. In Japan, I would always bite the bullet (pun intended) on cost and go by train.
