The room is mediocre. On the contrary, the view of west lake worth for everything. If the budget is enough,State guest house or four seasons hangzhou are the hotel you must go. Chose one of them. FYI, the ziwei restaurants tastes good but pricey .
First time at the hotel and the overall experience was conditioned by the poor service. The setting is wonderful (impregnated by a quite distinctive and selective atmosphere due to the important historical events and leaders that the hotel has hosted in the last decades), the views of the West Lake amazing and the facilities are more than decent (big, refurbished and clean rooms, great swimming pool, decent SPA, etc) but the service was terrible. The main reason is the language barrier: the vast majority of the personnel did not speak English. I can be understanding with it (it is not common to face this issue in Asia) despite of not-being an English native person and paying USD 400 per night. The problem was that even leaving aside the language barrier, the service was very poor: no explanation of the hotel services and facilities upon arrival, no smiles from the personnel during the stay, impolite treatment at the restaurant (as we arrived 30 minutes earlier than the last order, the waiters chased us with the order procedure, brought the check without having asked for it, watched out our meal putting themselves besides us creating a quite uncomfortable atmosphere), awful behavior at the swimming pool (they refused to lend swimming caps to us at the pool obliging us to buy them at a "friendly" price of USD 15 per cap), house-keeping maids insisting on doing the house-keeping with us inside the room and the general feeling of frustration for not being able to complain about anything because they do not understand (and do not want to understand) you. As an exception to the foregoing, I would to highlight the professionalism of the waitress who assisted us at the tea place of villa 6: she was efficient, friendly, sharp and charming and the best proof that things can be done in a different way. Finally, the serene atmosphere of the hotel was screwed up by the traffic of cars between the different buildings of the hotels (it is unbelievable that they do not limit the use of cars within the facilities or the hotel). In a nutshell, the place has everything for being a unique hotel but the poor service ruins the experience. …
Stayed for 4 nights Gardens and surrounds were exceptional Loved the walks and the scenery Rooms were well appointed, quite big with a balcony, a real pleasure to come back to. Breakfasts were also a real treat plenty of variety and options. Evening meals same thing plenty of variety As with these hotels a little expensive, staff english and communicating challenging but not impossible . Don't let that deter you. Westlake is well worth a visit, this hotel one of the best absolutely recommend it.
The grounds are amazing and meticulously taken care of. The main building very well kept. Some buildings/rooms newer and better than others. I think I stayed in building 5 which was just ok. Front desk understaffed therefore slow to check in and out. Unfortunately I stayed very briefly so didn't enjoy grounds.
I went Hangzhou with my teacher and classmates in November 2018. It was cloudy and a little cold in Hangzhou. We went to West Lake first.Although the weather was cloudy, there was a wonderful view. The air was fresh and the water was clear ,it was a beautiful scene. Next day we went to the Wet Land Museum by bus. It was a little rainy, but we still had a good time because we were inside of the building. I learned a lot about the wet land ,it is interesting! The last day we went to Yue Fei temple. I learned the history of Yue Fei,he died for his country ,so I thought he was very brave. This is a great trip,it is fun and I learned a lot.
