My Dad celebrated his 80th birthday at Jasmine Restaurant. We had 22 guests for dinner. Adults and kids. Service was excellent, efficient. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Special thanks to Miko for helping us with the menu selection. Everyone enjoyed the evening. Keep up the good work!

Nothing particularly great or outstanding about this property, except perhaps the location. It's just a shortish walk to Ximenkou railway station on Line 1, which takes you to Guangzhou East railway station directly and with a few changes in lines, can also get you to the airport and the other stations relatively swiftly. Take Exit C (by McDonalds) and when you leave the exit, turn right and when you reach the temple doors at the end of the street, turn left, then right again and you're at the hotel. The lobby is spacious, with it's own coffee shop and the first two floors are a Chinese restaurant that always seems busy. The staff could be a little friendlier, but this is China, so don't expect much in the way of smiles and help. The rooms are OK, particularly for the rates, but they aren't in tip top shape. A fair amount of shabbiness, with damaged furniture and old wood etc. The beds are very firm, but clean, as are the linens and towels. There is a computer in each room, which I didn't use, which might make up for the very annoying WIFI, which is ostensibly free. You need a Chinese phone to get sent a text with an access code to use the WIFI, It doesn't work with foreign numbers. Thankfully, the maid gave me her pass code, so I was able to use it. The carpets are patterned unusually, designed to throw your attention off that they're quite stained and grubby. It's actually very clever. The bathrooms are fairly clean, but not spotless. There's crappy soap, shampoo & bath foam, but no bath. The shower head in my room was useless and sprayed in all directions, but it does deliver hot water at a good pressure. There's 1.1L of bottled water per day as well as tea and a kettle, but the fridge wasn't working at all. Breakfast was supposed to be included in my rate, but wasn't. I didn't care. There are a lot of convenience stores locally to buy your own food. It's a low rate for an average property in a great location. You may find better, but not at this price.

Stayed in 2013. An extremely reasonable hotel and I didn't mind the pod size of the cheapest room, which was nevertheless clean and fresh and had an interesting roof, in the hotel - a very interesting experience to be at the top of the hotel. I was scared of the stairs but was in my fifties and might not have felt that way on subsequent occasions - I can be scared of escalators - and was careful with my bags on the way out. There is a fire escape to the outside but in fact it may be more obvious in the New World than in some other hotels. Excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Cheaper than the midtown YMCA and overall I probably felt safer but be careful of the stairs.
