I read the reviews about the rooms being old and bathrooms being out dated..However, this is not the case as I'm sitting here today. We checked out before traveling South and came back again for our last 2 days. The rooms are well equiped and bathrooms modern. The location is beautiful, close to restaurants, on the lake and the bird watching was amazing. We even saw Dolphins daily... The STAFF is the highlight !! I left my rings here and they made an effort to find them and keep them safe. The breakfast is amazing and again the staff is friendly and helpful with ANY request.
The best part was waking up the lovely bay view and watching all the bird life and seals! The room was comfortable, BUT the bathroom seriously needs an upgrade and fresh towels were not provided daily.
My colleague and I stayed at this hotel in February for a few days over business, and to be very frank… I thought it was “VERY AVERAGE”, at best… I was expecting a good deal more from this hotel. So… this is what I think: + Hotel on the waterfront, so it has pleasant views over the bay. Nice to stroll along just before the sun disappears. + The room on the ground floor has a little balcony facing the bay… so pleasant with a glass of wine in hand, overlooking infinity. + Bed is in fact comfortable, and the black-out in the room actually BLACKED out the light, making sleep quality a bonus in this place. + Reception staff is pleasant enough… nothing to write home about… but pleasant. + Reception area, and outside areas of the hotel are immaculate clean, and the cleaning staff in general deserve a well-deserved commendation on their job. Rooms... no so much. + Breakfast layout is very good, and a joy to start the day – a little pricey + Good options for dining – merely walking distance from the hotel +/- Internet did not work very well during my stay. I did mention this to the reception staff, who promised to look into it. However, over the 3 days spent in the hotel… this was a little of a let-down. +/- Bar service – behind reception – is a hit and a miss. Staff is rarely manning the place, so it takes forever to get a drink. Now, where I get let down… dropping rating on my review: - Although I mentioned the bed being comfy enough… the pillow choice is pathetic. 1 type of pillow. I like hard pillows… but all 4 on the bed were soft. Is this what is called a “choice”? - Room and corridors are dire and old, very basic… and no warm feeling to it. This hotel has SO MUCH potential… and it is slipping into an abys of dire straits. When you walk into the room… you hear the room SCREAMING at you… “Please revamp!!!!!” - Door to the room is old… REALLY OLD. Is this a 4 star hotel… or more of a 2 star??? - For the quality of the rooms… the pricing is way overpriced. I know you also pay for the privilege of staying on the waterfront… but nope… not worth the extra cash, for the dire situation the hotel is falling into. - Noisy in the room… when you have (like I did) noisy idiots for neighbours - No free water bottles in the room??? - Bathroom… well, this was again a disappointment for me… Although the amenities were decent… the bathroom is a joke, with pathetic water pressure… and truly… TRULY overtaken by time. I am pretty sure that it has not seen any upgrade since this hotel opened. STUCK IN THE PAST. So, summing up… I was actually excited to come to this place, with the number of pleasant reviews… but I sit here today, writing this review with a heavy heart since I was let down by the aging of this place, and lack of maintenance. At the rate that it is declining with age, and IF nothing is done… this hotel is doomed, I am sorry to say. Not sure I want to come back……
I thought that this hotel was great value for money. It is not very flashy and does not have the facilities of a fancy hotel. On the other hand, the beds are comfortable, breakfasts are more than adequate and the staff are all very efficient and friendly. Above all, though, its location is sensational. I woke up one morning to see dolphins, pelicans, flamingoes and seals. Also it is next door to the Raft and the Waterfront which has some good restaurants and is where a lot of the tours are based.
We spent 2 nights here as a base to explore the area. We did a kayak tour, atv in the dunes, horseback riding in the day and half we were in walvis. We chose this primarily due to the good value for Marriott points and the free breakfast as we’re titanium elite. The hotel has a god waterfront location, it’s fairly old and a bit dated. We walked to the raft restaurant for dinner. We were on the second floor, there are no elevators on the hotel, could be a problem for some. Walvis itself is more of a working town, but it fit with the excursions we did including the kayak drive departing from next door to the hotel. Good basic accommodation, we’d do it over again as part of our self drive tour of Namibia,
