With its extensive, unique and creatively entertaining restaurants, bars, deli, lobby-lounge, sea facing terraces and beach kiosk, set on this historic and iconic site, the Strand Hotel Swakopmund is a destination in itself for all visitors to and residents of Swakopmund. Its architectural inspiration finds its roots deep in Namibian German history and reflects this in a tasteful contemporary manner. The interiors are residential in nature, and the brief to all designers involved is to create a non-hotel hotel. One as charming and welcoming as the town it is in. Simply very warm and comfortable, and as they say in German: "Gemutlich" with a genuine "sense-of-place". Every aspect of the Strand Hotel Swakopmund is being developed according to international four-star standards. It's very possibly going to be the benchmark against which all hotels/lodges in Namibia will be measured. The Strand Hotel Swakopmund is not simply being built, it is being sculptured.

The Strand Hotel Swakopmund captivates guests with its modern charm and spacious, clean rooms accompanied by live music, creating a vibrant atmosphere. While some deem the hotel pricey, others feel specific offerings are reasonably priced. Comfortable and well-appointed rooms with picturesque sea views are often praised, though occasional maintenance issues are noted. The hotel's prime location is a significant draw, putting guests in the heart of Swakopmund's attractions. Despite the overall good service, there are instances of slow restaurant service and difficulties with special requests.

As non-hotel residents we were delighted to be able to walk in and pay $20 per person to indulge in the delicious buffet breakfast. We enjoyed sitting outside on the terrace, with views over the ocean. We walked around town and along the beach for 2 hours before, to give us a good appetite, and lingered over breakfast for 3 hours. The waitresses here are kind and attentive, and kept us well-supplied with coffee.

We returned to the hotel again during our stay in lovely Swakopmund, to enjoy a drink at the bar and to imbibe the luxurious flavour of the interior decor. This felt like a great treat to us, because we were on an overlanding tour and our accommodation was a dormitory room in a simple hostel. Our relaxed breakfast at The Strand was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our trip through Namibia.

The Strand stands right by the beach at the landward end of the small pier, rather like a stumpy harbour wall, called The Mole. It's a conventional hotel rather than a lodge. The decor was understated, smart, kempt and cool and tasteful. Our room was on the second floor with a partial view of the sea, a good size with all the facilities and that useful feature, a separate lavatory. Spacious coffee shop with a conservatory overlooking the sea.

We enjoyed our stay in this hotel. It was well located for visiting the sights. The rooms were stylish and quiet. The main foyer of the hotel is beautiful and clean. Unfortunately the restaurant where breakfast was served had a very dirty floor and windows. Our room although very pretty, needed a good clean and the rug under the bed should either be cleaned or thrown out. I think the cleaners need to be trained better.

Hotel is good and, if you are inside, you do not recognise, that you are in Africa. Anyhow, there are many outside tables and seating areas to enjoy good food in one of the restaurants. There is a safe parking space for free right in front of the Hotel. A bit strange for us was, that many guests and some staff did not wear a face mask correctly or at all what irritates us a lot during COVID-crisis. In our suite, the A/C was not working and, although we claimed three times, the nights were hot and sleeping was not easy. Bath tube: you may take a bath, however, only hot water was running and cold water not at all. As some switches were defect, you can only switch on/off the light for living room at the main entrance. In general, Hotel is good for some days, good surroundings and walking distance to centre. If maintenace and hygiene rules will be followed, the Hotel may come back to a top Hotel in Swakopmung and area.

Warm welcome and super friendly staff. Food like the staff was amazing in all the restaurants.

Our room however was very small vs what we paid, and made us feel slightly claustrophobic. We tried to upgrade to a bigger room and was told it was fully booked, yet bookings.com had availability. Strange.

Flies were also a huge problem in the room and the restaurants, which we complained about a few times. Unbearable at times of eating and sipping on cocktails in the outside area's but I think its a vernal problem in the area.

The AC in the room didn't work so we were forced to keep the balcony doors open, meaning more flies inside the room. Wasn't able to be fixed.

When the manager arrived on Monday morning ( on the 3rd day of our stay), she offered to change our room since there was now availability. She tried her best to remedy the situation which we appreciated.

Would've been nice if the hotel had a pool since the beach is open to the public and really not ideal to swim in (cold and full of seaweeds which locals didn't seem to mind).

Overall we had a good time.

What matters to me more than anything in a hotel, is quality bed linens and pillows. The Strand Hotel comes through. Everything is of high quality and spotless. It is a lovely hotel to come to after visiting Sossusvlei when you feel as though you’ll never get the sand out of anything. After a couple of nights here, we feel human again! The views from the seafront rooms is delightful - crashing waves and misty mornings.

We were greeted warmly and enthusiastically at the entrance by Thomas and immediately felt like valued guests. Our room gave excellent views to the city and the beach where we enjoyed seeing the children play in the icy ocean. The breakfast was truly first class and the fish restaurant was superb including their outstanding drinks. The bathroom/dressing room area was large and really allowed us to organize our clothes after 3 weeks on safari. We were able to walk everywhere and enjoy all that Swakopmund had to offer.

We arrived at the hotel from a long drive, and the guy at the reception had not nothing else to do than trying to sell us activities instead of letting us arrive in peace. For a hotel at this price category, we were disappointed that they didn't have a swimming pool, which would have been actually a nice way to relax.
Breakfast was another really bad experience. The waitress which was obviously responsible for our table (since no one else felt the need to approach us although many waiters for standing around) was rude and had a very bad attitude. It felt like we had to ask for permission to order something from her. The breakfast was also quite underwhelming for the price tag of this hotel. Everything very basic. They had some nice cakes on display, for which you would have had to pay extra. Quite ridiculous. Altogether, we would not consider returning to this place again, and also not recommend it to anyone else.

I visited Strand hotel Swakopmund with my family checking in on 26.02.2021 and checking out 28.02.2021, booked in room 118 and 120. but i requested for one room to be a family room, but i end up with a room which doesn't even look like a family room, for me it was small. The rooms are very clean and welcoming. during our lunch we were served by a waiter named Ronny and i give him a 10/10, he served us diligently. But the waiter who served us during lunch his service sucked. i was informed that our breakfast, lunch and dinner were included, just to my surprise during check out i have to pay for the food because apparently we have exceeded our price, but the funny thing is that the menu we were given doesn't have prices nor were we informed that each person have to eat food up to a certain amount. But apart from that , the Receptionist, securities, the men who assisted us with our luggages all did their work diligently. i will surely come back again

Dear Aina557595 On behalf of the Strand Hotel Swakopmund, i wish to thank you for your feedback. We do highly appreciate it and believe we can use to keep improving our standards. I am sorry that you did not get a family room that satisfied your expectations. We do have a realization that our family rooms do have a size limitation especially when considering the older children that tend to be much bigger. We then usually extend the interleading rooms to our guests, which seems to be what was done in your case. Our sincere apologies once again for this inconvenience. On a more positive note from your feedback, we will definitely extend the positive feedback to Ronny for his service. We are definitely proud of him, as well as our reception team , our porters and security. We do look forward to hosting you again. Warm Regards Ivan E. Kasozi

We stayed in the hotel for quite a long time, as I work online and Swakopmund is very nice peaceful place on Atlantic side. It has good location in the city centre, with a long walkway along coastline for those who like running in the morning with romantic view. Every Thursday there is beach volleyball organized by enthusiasts, on holidays there is live music and local market, life is concentrated there. Close to the hotel there is museum of local history, worth to visit for a curious foreigner.
I had both seaview room and room looking to the backyard, and here you choose depending on preference, for me both were good. Most important for me was WiFi connection and facilities - all was perfect! I became a regular customer of spa on 1st floor (don't forget to ask for a discount card), and breakfast time was my favourite time - it was very long (up to 11am/12pm on Sundays) and very reach for options! One of the best breakfasts I have ever seen in hotels.
Staff was extremely friendly (especially Sicilia, manager) and fun (hi to Ismalia!), they enjoyed hosting us and looked for opportunities to make something good to us.
I don't even mention that all was clean and fresh, very high quality level.
I recommend to stay in Strand hotel if you are in Swakopmund.
Best,
Natalia Abolmasova
