The Secret Garden is a hidden gem in Swakopmund! I stayed at the guesthouse twice. My first night was on the Christmas eve and the second visit was a 4 day stay around the new year eve.
The guesthouse is run by an elderly German couple that takes care about all guests like about their children and grandchildren :) Sometimes they have bad mood as everyone else but in general they are very kind and friendly. Peter arranged a tour to Spitzkoppe and a kayak tour in Walvis bay in the second half of 31st of December. He also arranged a transfer from Swakopmund to Walvis bay and from Walvis bay to Windhoek.
When I arrived the second time, I have got a cool suite for a much reduced price! It even had a bath tube!
All guests were offered 3 different sparkling wines for breakfast after the Christmas and on the first day of 2021. The owners organized a new year party for all guests on 31st, since people could not leave the place after 9 p.m. due to COVID.
The guesthouse is pretty small, it has only 9 rooms but it is pretty popular among the local tourists and international travellers. All rooms are beautifully decorated as well as the garden. Wifi may not be same good in all rooms but if it is somehow weak, you can always find it better in the chilling area close to the reception, where a relax or classic music plays all day long.
The breakfast is rich: omelette, various ham, cheese, fruits, cereals and muesli with yogurt or milk, sweets, brewed coffee, different teas, etc. You can buy beer and wine at the guesthouse even when the shops are closed :) In both rooms I stayed (4 & 7) I had a fridge, tea kettle, hair dryer, coffee and tea.
You may not wish more than offered in the Secret Garden questhouse. Maybe the name means something ;)

What an amazing stay. The hosts were friendly. The room was amazing. Garden amazingly stunning. I was very satisfied with my stay. The location is close enough to the beach to hear the sea and have all the benefits of being close to the beach. also close to many great restaurants.

The place is well situated. Their customer service and the rooms are okay. The only snare is the absence of a TV in the room, that’s a real turn off about the place.I suggest the owner looks at adding value to his property by adding TVs in his guesthouse rooms

Apon arrival check in was not made feel welcome, person checking me in was rude and very unfriendly. There was a smell in our room which I complained about but was only sorted out on the last night. In general the staff (cleaners) were very friendly and helpful. Management later started to be more friendly but was still not feeling welcome. The breakfast is very basic was just toasted bread with coffee. My personal experience was not good and will not be going to secret garden guesthouse again!

Response from Peter Odendaal, Owner at The Secret Garden Guesthouse
Responded 03 Feb 2021
We regret your negative response . The smell you are referring to was due to a Sulphur outburst at sea which was explained to the guest. The statement about the breakfast is simply a lie! Breakfast consists of : fresh fruit juice , a choice of cereals , fresh fruit salad , stewed fruit , two kinds of yogurt , cottage cheese , a cheese platter , a platter of meat cuts , fresh tomatoes , pickled cucumbers , 3 different kinds of bread , fresh bread rolls , a choice of jams . Eggs to you liking are on order. A choice of coffee and tea. WE OBJECT STRONGELY TO Your REVIEW !!

The location was ideal. Walking distance from the center of town and restaurants. Breakfast choices were very good and special accommodations were made for me because I don’t eat meat. The staff courteous and helpful. I needed someone with knowledge of lodges in another area and Inga put me into contact with the perfect person. One evening on our way out to dinner, the security guard told my friend that she should not carry her backpack because of the potential dangers. Now that’s thoughtful. Thank you

Great accommodation for families or couples! Clean, tidy, tastefully furnished, on top of breakfast was varied and rich. The location is great - in the center of the old part of the city, very close to shops and boutiques, good pubs and restaurants, as well as the coast and the promenades along it. Personel kindly helped us with information and booking our activities and tours in the nearby area.
I highly recommend!

Great, quiet location near beach and restaurants. Staff were very helpful. We were able to take advantage of the laundry service. We are one breakfast in the main breakfast area and were provided with a breakfast pack on the last morning as we left early. Room was spacious and area was quiet.

The guesthouse offers very nice rooms and is in a very good location in Swakopmund. It is a 5-minute walk to the jetty/beach and the other hotspots are also very easy to reach on foot. All the staff are very friendly and the hostess gives great tips for excursions. The breakfast was delicious and the car could be parked safely.

The Secret Garden is a delightfully quaint little treasure in the heart of Swakop. Best of all they are pet friendly. The owners are very friendly and helpful. Upon entering the main gate the whole garden stretches before one and beyond. . We were given a charming room, with a fridge, coffee and tea facilities and natural light. Returning at night, the garden is filled with little fairy lights which renders a lovely magical ambience Breakfasts are delicious, nicely displayed with various breads and crispy brotchens, a variety of cheeses and meats, fresh fruit salad, yogurt and spreads and jams. We stayed two nights with our doggie which was great as the beach, aquarium, jetty and restaurants, shops are within walking distance. Great to have free wifi is also available. Certainly would stay again.
