Designed with you in mind, the one-of-a-kind stone lodges and activity centre, provide a world class view of the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean as they cascade over coral banks into indigo depths. The Lodge offers a myriad of activities and customized adventures designed to make your stay truly unforgettable! Nestled in a secluded cove with its own marine reserve, the Lodge provides the perfect vantage point from which to watch the ocean going vessels cruise into Nacala Port, the local dhow's criss-cross the bay, the tuna whip the water into a feeding frenzy, or the humpback whales pass by on their spring migration. The Pelago Adventure Centre, with its friendly and highly qualified staff, is the ideal base from which to discover the largely unexplored underwater landscapes and white beaches of Nacala Bay. The Thirsty Whale Restaurant and Bar offers something to refresh and whet your appetite. After a long drive this was truly an oasis of relaxation, you can feel the vibe as soon as you drive in you are overwhelmed with positive energy, I felt like I went through a time warp , after driving through the somewhat rustic nacala I honestly did not expect such a beautiful property, As I arrived I was greeted by such friendly staff that could speak English perfectly which is rare in Nacala, sat down to an ice cold beer with an astonishing view of the bay ....seriously paradise with all the coconut palms. Then it just kept getting better and better , I am a qualified chef and I'm not lying when I say I had the best Peri peri chicken, when people say authentic Mozambique peri peri chicken this was by far exactly what it was supposed to taste like , succulent, juicy with a nice bite of peri peri , the calamari for dinner was just as good, tasty fresh and tender , the presentation of the food is the best I have seen in Mozambique with fresh organic salad and homegrown herbs, the room was very clean with mosquitoe nets and the rooms have air-cons , towels are provided and there is always hot water, Sabrina the host an manageress is fantastic and really goes out of her way to ensure you are comfortable and really feel at home, all in all a great experience and I would highly recommend every aspect of this establishment

The word ‘beautiful’ is a very small word to describe this place. Our stay at this lodge has been one of our most enjoyable and comfortable stays ever. The scenery, the architecture, the pool, the lip-smacking food (and of course Sabrina's little one - Bazinga) – have enhanced our experience over here even more. Thanking Mr. and Mrs. Donald for being so warmly welcoming. Our stay couldn’t have been better. We thank Mrs. Shirley for being such an enthusiastic plant-lover and sharing her interests along with her plants with us.

Kwalala Lodge has the only up market accommodation in the Nacala area - the rooms are spacious and spotless, well appointed and comfortable. The views from the individual balconies are stunning. Owners Mike and Shirley obviously put a lot of thought and effort into creating a haven for weary travelers (Nacala really is at the end of the road). The Lodge offers diving (at a reef created and preserved by Mike and his staff), snorkeling (my absolute favorite pastime as the water is always warm) and just generally relaxing and winding down.

There is a bar and restaurant (The Thirsty Whale) for guests. Staff are welcoming and friendly, service is good and the menu selection isn't bad, considering the difficulties of purchasing fresh vegetable produce in Mozambique. Fish dishes are excellent, fridges are well stocked and the beers are always ice cold.......

Just remember that Nacala is VERY tropical and hot (rooms are air-conditioned) and that mosquitoes carry malaria - be warned.

I stayed at Kwalala for one night on a business trip to Nacala. After a long drive in from Pemba and a long day of meetings I was exhausted. The rooms were great and the food was wonderful. The waiter was extremely attentive and the view with dinner was quite nice over the bay. Most importantly the beds were very comfortable. Having traveled extensively around Northern Mozambique this is decidedly the exception, not the rule and an exception I found resplendently pleasing.

I was a bit concerned initially by the distance from the city and the traffic on the unimproved road but found that it only took me 15 minutes to get from the lodge to the port at 0715.

Like many similar lodges in Northern Mozambique, it is a lodge built for vacations that has been co-opted into a business hotel, however the owners have done a great job maintaining the holiday oasis feel to the point that both business travelers and holidaymakers feel they've found what they were looking for.

Nacala is a far away business destination and as a city does not offer much Hotel accommodation to speak of. That leaves B&B 's for one to rest a weary head after a long day in the son.

They have just completed an additional 10/12 rooms and a swimming pool so one is not going to be that pressed to book in advance.

The Lodge is owned by a Zimbabwean husband and wife team, with quite a few ex pats in "attendance"

The restaurant offers nice food and the King size prawns are enormous like little crawfish and very juicy, but r72 each. I hear a gasp! - THREE will do for a meal. STOP whining.

The rooms are clean and large with great aircon. Without aircon, you would die. The views of the enormous Nacala Bay are stupendous and the setting sun is something else to behold as God paints the sky red and says ' there enjoy my child"

The lodge also boast a dive school and if one is so inclined, a 30m dive [the dive master wont go deeper, no decompression chamber in NACALA, closest is the Secheylles. ] The entrance to the bay is 210m deep and whales come in to give berth to their young.

Mike and Shirley have gone to great lengths to make the weary traveler comfortable. Shorts and a T shirt, with sandals, what a relaxing way to enjoy dinner in AFRICA. The pub is an old boat that is half inside and half on the veranda.

One warning the sand road to the Lodge requires that you have a 4 x 4 but what else do they hire out at Nampula airport- only 4 x 4 so you are safe.
The new Nacala airport will open soon, which will obviate the long drive from Nampula. Plus the new airport is very close to Kwalala Lodge. What a blessing.

So if you have business in Nacala, this is the place to stay. Home from home, there is no better place and all these comforts at usd 150 b&b .NO fry up for breakfast, but hey, what is wrong with cereal, toasted bun, jam, and yogurt

I've stayed at Kwalala Lodge for a total of 12 months during 2015 / 2016 and I'm pretty sure that, overall, it's the best accommodation Nacala has to offer.
Apart from the lovely rooms and views, solid food and drinks, the biggest positive is the staff and the service they provide. The owners and employees at Kwalala Lodge made me feel like a part of a big family. They were always helpful and went an extra mile whenever needed to make my stay more enjoyable and comfortable.
When you're staying away from your home and family for such a long time you can't hope for more than this and I will always be grateful to have found such a lovely place and a great group of people to spend such a long time with.

Thanks to the Kwalala team for making this a memorable holiday in paradise, this is a place of friendliness and laughter, also to say thanks to Mike and Stuart for making a difference in conserving a piece of the beauty the ocean have to offer to us, it is awesome work gents, keep it up well done. Us as a family would recommend this as a definite stop and stay in Nacala, rated by us this is the best and most beautiful lodge in Nacala, and there is much to do, from diving to kayaking.
Thanks a mill.

Sabrina, Mike and the team were excellent hosts. We had a large group staying and I'm sure at times we were quie demanding. Added to this were the expected weather/electric issues at the back end of rainy season.
Nothing was too much trouble, every request was dealt with, with a smile.
From pick up at the airport to ensuring we got on our outbound flights, the team were there.
The accomodation was comfortable, clean, well serviced.
The restaurant had an excellent menu and all the food was prepared well.
If you want to go and explore this area of Mz, then I'd highly recommend staying here.

We stayed here in September for 5 nights, it is a lovley friendly place. The rooms are really nice, comfortable, with a great shower, we had a new one, not sure what the older ones are like. The place could really use a swimming pool as the beach dissapears when the tide is in but I think they have plans to build one.
The food is really great but no breakfast is included with the room.
The AC was not very cold in the room but we didnt need it, might be a consideration in hotter weather.
The dive instructor Mike was very helpful and took us on 2 great dives, he is so friendly and a pleasure to dive with. The dives were off the shore and you can see some cool fish and one lasge school of big eyed jacks. The local business had a raft race that weekend which was a lot of fun to watch.
This is a great area and lodge if you just want to chill out and do nothing but read, dive and eat, perfect!
