Lunamar is a very nice hotel considering what Beira has to offer. The staff is very friendly and always go that extra mile for you.

Having a restaurant just on the other side of the car park is very convenient and the food is quite good.

Only concern I have is the language problem. Not all the people are fluent in English and as Beira becomes more and more popular this is something the staff should get to grips with.

Love staying at the Lunamar

We used the Lunamar conference rooms for about 3 weeks for training. The room allocated to us was very good and suited our requirements. Catering (snacks, lunch, coffee) was excellent. All staff enjoyed the hotel rooms and no complaints received from anyone.

One big issue is the very poor internet connection which is not suitable for business travellers. It is too slow, on and off and some rooms are not covered.

The prices are on the high side.

The Lunamar is a wonderful hotel in many ways:
- The rooms are spacious, modern, well-designed and well-equipped
- The location is very convenient. Not in the centre of town, but not too far from the airport and a very short walk to the sea, with views from the breakfast and meeting rooms (maybe also rooms on higher floors, I was on the first floor)
- The hotel benefits from a beautiful swimming pool, which is even covered from the sun, but still outside
- The staff are exceptionally well-trained, especially by African standards. They are helpful, accommodating, friendly and professional.
- There is a nice cafe/coffee/pastry shop in the same complex
- The internet works throughout the hotel, but is sporadic

We hosted a workshop in the small meeting room off the breakfast room on the top floor, and it was wonderful. We hosted 36 people very easily, the room was light with beautiful views, and the built-in screen and projector worked perfectly.

The caveat:

The manager, a red-headed Portuguese lady, was extremely unfriendly throughout out stay and ruined our otherwise perfect visit by literally throwing us (myself and two colleagues) out of the breakfast room where we were trying to work (albeit after check-out), as the flight from Beira to Maputo only leaves late in the evening. Her colleagues, the staff in that part of the hotel, had very graciously said we were welcome to work there (they apologised for not being able to serve us coffee), even though it was clear we had already checked out. When we mentioned that, the manager demanded to know WHO had said that, as if they would be punished.

This complaint is not about being able to work in the breakfast area or not, but how we were treated.

As we were leaving, we heard her arguing with another group of customers who had been 'checked out' of their rooms because they'd taken their luggage (full of equipment they needed) with them on a day-trip, even though their rooms were booked for several days. When they returned from the day-trip, their rooms had been given to other guests and the hotel was full. Instead of apologising for the mistake and helping them find other accommodation, she was shouting at them as if it were their own fault.

My colleagues and I would strongly urge the owners of this lovely hotel to think carefully about who they put in customer-facing positions, as this lady should not be dealing with customers.

Five stars for every other member of the team we encountered in three days there.

Spent a couple of nights at the Lunamar. On the positive side I found the room quite spacious with nice furniture and clean. On the down side I have to mention that the internet did not work, the room did not have any curtains (not so nice when your room is ground floor facing the street), the breakfast wasn't great, and the service was slow and unfriendly. Once I tried room service; after 3 hours waiting I gave up.

I was there for work and noticed how this hotel had a lot of issues. It might be good for a one night stay but surely not for long. The rooms are very stuffy, it is almost modly. The keycards open any room, the lock on the roadside is not one of its best, it is a bit worrying. I never had access to the wifi. The TV has an issue if it is idle it will turn off, as it is manned from the main place (whatever that is). I however think the food was good, but they take very long to bring it back - you can go an hour waiting for your order. I was "kicked out", the communication is bad. The service is friendly but unprofessional.

This is one of the relatively new hotels in Beira. It is situated outside downtown and not very far from the sea. It is a complex with hotel and breakfast restaurant in one building and restaurant in another building. Rooms are nice and Wi-Fi is free and reasonable good. Breakfast is ok with some hot dishes as well as cereals, fruits, juices, tea/coffee and bread. Problem was that it does not open as early as they indicate . I was leaving early in the morning and when I went for breakfast at the opening hour there was nothing ready. I think they should make sure that at least something like coffee, cereals and bread is there from early. The hotel has plenty of parking if you have your own car.

This is a HOTEL and not a bed and breakfast place or an inn so its in the wrong category. Pleasant functional hotel with good Wi-Fi and aircon located near the sea. One of the biggest hotels in Beira. Nice pool and all day bistro restaurant and conference facilities.

The hotel looked fine from outside and even from inside. However, there were little things in the room that were not functional; safety box did not work, there was no bedside table on one side of the bed. The bedside lamp had no bulb, garbage pail did not open, Wi-Fi was non-existent etc.etc.

The staff were nice, but they did not know how to keep a reservation correctly. We had reserved a room away from the road side 2 weeks ago, but they did not respect it. Then they said they would give us a room on that side the following day, and then again said they had none. Only when we were about to leave the place, that they decided to give us a room on that side.

The room itself was fine, fairly clean, had a good bathroom with hot water and a good shower. Breakfast was included and it was sumptuous.

There was a nice pool, but we did not try it.

We will, however, never come back here and neither would we recommend the place to anybody.
