Hotel's Favourite
It was SO good to be welcomed back to La Pirogue after 9 years. A huge thank you to all of the people in the hotel who made our stay absolutely wonderful. We come away with full hearts and memories to last a lifetime.

I've been lucky enough to travel to lots of lovely places however La Pirogue is hands down the best place I've stayed with regards to the people, the Island and the hotel.

Located on the West Coast of Mauritius, the natural, all ground floor villas perfectly blend into the natural palm tree surroundings. Think barefoot, comfort, relaxed and a place where you can leave all your troubles behind. A place to truly unwind, where the staff do everything to make sure you have the best time. Crystal clear water, beautiful sand and a gentle breeze with activities should you wish to do them, it is the perfect holiday for any traveller. Activities are fully included (regardless of what board you are on) snorkelling, kayaking, paddle boards, pedal boats, windsurf boards, sail boats, tennis courts, ping pong, yoga, organised beach volley, water polo, the cocktail making competition or the tranquil beach or infinity pool, this place has you covered. Special mentions to Rohin at The Boat House and all the people who helped set us sail and welcomed us back after activities on the coast.

After visiting twice before with family in 2013 & 2014, I came back with just my teen after 9 years and am so pleased I did. We made a lot of friends with the staff at the hotel who remembered us from our last visit and went out of their way to make our holiday out of this world - and being away from family at Christmas, we were nervous however were spoilt by the incredible little touches La Pirogue offered. Worth mentioning here that they have a double turn down service. Once in the day (the normal room clean) and once whilst you're at dinner. Also worth mentioning that La Pirogue is a very flat hotel. So completely able to facilitate anyone with mobility issues. They go out of their way to help those who need extra support.

The food was absolutely incredible throughout our stay but I must say, the Christmas Eve special dinner was out of this world. From a cheese table to sushi and fresh oysters to spit roasted pig / lamb to a traditional turkey (the best we've ever had) to sprouts with roast potatoes to biriyani and about 7 different flavour yule logs. Vik - the Executive Chef has absolutely hit the nail on the head here with the quality of food and the delivery of it. I take my hat off to everyone that worked the double shift in the kitchen to make the dinner.

Prior to dinner - we were all invited to a special cocktail evening with carol singers and canapes. None of this was an additional cost for HB/FB. A real rarity. Most other hotels charge a supplement for Xmas dinners...

Huge thank you to Vijay at the Beach Bar. Your hospitality and good humour throughout our stay was so very welcomed. You've not changed in 9 years and you're an asset to La Pirogue. We watched the way you make all guests feel really special speaking several languages along the way!
Another few mentions to Jeewan, Blessed, John, Adebayor and Anita at The Beach Bar too. It was so good to meet you. Thank you for making the time to chat with us ... particularly about football :)

In the main restaurant, Wolmar, we would love to thank Lobin - the restaurant manager for running such a tight ship. Kevin, Ravi, Sabrina, Dev, Kamela and Sookoo always made sure we had plenty of tea at breakfast but also knew which table we preferred which was such a treat. Thank you Kevin for my tea at supper time with desert - such a treat!

In the kitchen, we'd love to make a special mention to Dav, Mary-Jane, Damilola (who managed to find me fresh coconut!) and Mama who cooked us fried eggs in the morning. You all work so hard but from what we see, you look so happy and nothing is ever too much trouble.

With regards to activities, my teen (13) went off and made new friends to do things with but also a special shout out to Thierry from the teens club/animation team who made such a special effort if there were no other teens around, to do things with him that were not scheduled. Thank you Thierry for remembering us from last time too! Tobias was also great fun doing water polo I'm told. Was also great to see Cinthia who leads the activities at La Pirogue continuing to raise the bar and make sure the guests have things to do should they wish to do so. The Christmas parade was awesome - drummers and Santa Claus arriving on a Paddle Board - SUCH FUN!!! They also handed out gifts to ALL the children organised by age.

The beach sellers are also lovely too - Mario and Solitaire David chatted with us. No hard sell and they have some beautiful sarongs and bracelets. Don't be afraid to chat to them and buy gifts to bring home or souvenirs for yourself.

Finally - the management here go out of their way to make sure your needs are met. They do everything they can and check in regularly. Parwez, it was a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for taking a suggestion of mine and implementing it straight away. Thank you also for great conversation. Romeo C too - thank you also for checking in on us.

In summary, we had the best time at La Pirogue and I am looking to book flights as soon as I can to get back out there. It is a truly relaxed hotel where the opulence is in the people, the nature, the care and commitment vs the overly "stylised luxury" you might find at other hotels.

We stayed there during independence Day but was worried by the bad rainy weather prevailing on the island.

The welcome by management was superb. Vanessa, Jerome and Ashok were all so genuine and welcoming. We met lobin also who were very sweet and helpful. In fact most of the staffs seems well trained and courteous and kind.

We were guided by a club car to a free upgraded room overlooking the sea - which was very well appreciated and awesome.

The room, thought slightly limited by its own infrastructure and hence was smaller than standard, was nevertheless very nice, colorful, lively, neat and very classy. The room was recently renovated last year and it turns out to be a success, with the furniture will conveying a feeling of being new.The room also has a bathtub and nice shower, giving a good premium feel.

However the Miracast on TV was buggy and couldn't be played despite repeated attempts over our stay.

We were invited to a decent management cocktail for independence Day celebration and Mahen the in house photographer captured and gave us a special photo for us to remember this special moment. "Thanks you" to him. Well appreciated

The main dining restaurant was slightly crowded and we got a good seating place at the far back end. But service was very good nonetheless

Breakfast in the morning was nice, with a wide variety of fruits and patisserie and food. The waffle was a delicacy as well.

We also visited the music studio which was unique on the island with very interesting product/service to be enjoyed with the family in the future

The second day dinner was Asian buffet. Everything was so tasty. The chef is very kind, offering so many variety of high quality succulent food.

We tested the van del stel wine which was recommended with this buffet. The wine was refreshing and delicious. It lives up to its expectation and made us longing for more.

The entertainment was also very nice and varied over two days.

The room offering of fresh fruits and snacks were very nice and appreciated as well.

We also witnessed a Netflix production crew trying to film apparently entitled "a mother's love". Was very nice to witness.

The landscaping also were in general well kept, boosted up by the rain.

The swimming pool was very refreshing and has a strange shape - it is wider and longer than at first sight, and surrounded by lots of trees

The checkout experience was quick and seamless.

Overall will recommend 100%.

We (family of 4, 2 teenagers kids) spent 9 days at La Pirogue in December 2019. Our feedback is excellent: beautiful place, marvelous garden , sea and beach, great staff, restaurants and management. We choose the beach pavilion rooms, definitely recommended as it is literally a few steps from a white quite beach, perfectly equipped for relaxing (towels and beach beds always available) and for sports. We have appreciated the organization of the sea activities (kayak, sailing, paddles, trip to the reef , swimming with dolphins, whales watching ...) as well as the other activities like yoga and gym in the morning: thank you to the sport staff for the perfect and always smiling organization! We could even meet and talk to some marine biologists of the university of Mauritius, explaining their reef reconstruction project and we could participate to it....that it awesome and so important for our planet in these days, thank you guys and well done! Restaurants and food are very good, we have particularly appreciated the chef and the staff of the Magenta restaurant, a unique location and experience. In one word, everything was far above expectations...we will be back!

Dear Simoepaolo, Thank you for your kind words of appreciation regarding your experience at La Pirogue Resort & Spa. I am very pleased to learn that you enjoyed your stay with us, and I took particular pleasure in reading your comments regarding the coral farming project. Indeed, La Pirogue was pleased to have been invited by the University of Mauritius to collaborate in a Marine Research project in the region of Flic en Flac. The project includes the study of wave action affecting the reef and lagoon in our region, beach sand erosion, water quality assessment and eventually a coral farming project. Our onsite Marine Biologist, is available each week on Monday and Wednesday at our research centre based at the boat house. Our Biologist has regular briefings and guests can accompany him when he performs his various biodiversity surveys, water quality assessments, equipment maintenance and monitoring of the marine environment. He does also join a number of our snorkeling trips to enhance our guest's experience of the coral reefs and surrounding lagoons. We are most grateful for your valuable feedback and shall be glad to welcome you back for another memorable stay this December. Kind Regards, Andrew Slome General Manager

Stayed for 2 weeks end of Feb into March with friends.. Hotel staff are all lovely, keen for you to have the best time. Special mention to Josseanne & Kamla made every breakfast a joy...and Clarryl who looked after our rooms daily.. delighting us with his ‘towel art!’
Ideally positioned to explore the island as halfway down the west coast. We hired a car..not too expensive.. Flic en Flac beach is fab. Hard to tear yourself away from it but worth it if you do. Driving in Mauritius can be an experience! Maps and roads don’t always tally! We enjoyed the catamaran dolphin/snorklling trip, Port Louis, Bois Cheri tea plantation, and quad biking down on the south coast at Frederica Heritage reserve and more.
Men played golf nearby at Tamerina golf club.
Accommodation is charming- individual thatched bungalows that resemble up turned boats. The grounds are immaculately kept. Sugar Beach is next door - much smarter but w/o the charm of La Pirogue imo. Would definitely recommend and would consider returning in the future.

We stayed here as a family of 4 in the middle of April. The staff were very friendly and nothing was ever a problem.

We stayed during Easter and there were many activities and decoration to celebrate the event.

The rooms were well stocked, thatched-roof bungalows with a mini bar, toiletries, air conditioning, safe and a TV with hotel information and various international channels.

The food is absolutely wonderful and there are a variety of restaurants/cafes within the resort serving various dishes and cuisines. All the staff were amazing, but special mention must go to Lobin, who was very welcoming and efficient. Prayag, who was very kind, and kept suggesting different drinks to try. As well as Jen-Luc and Tracy who were very polite.

We would like to specifically commend Cindy for her amazing service, who was extremely lovely, caring, polite, and always went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable.

In the neighbouring Sugar Beach complex is the well equipped gym, where we were frequently greeted by Pamola, who’s customer service is absolutely exceptional and made sure we were always alright.

There are a variety of water sports at the hotel, including pedalo, stand up paddle, kayaking and windsurfing. The team their are very kind and supportive, and assist you where necessary if you are struggling.

The reef and lagoon are wonderful and very scenic, with designated swimming and snorkelling areas, and frequent coastguard patrols.

We would also like to thank Augun and Fardeen for there great service, as well as the housekeeping team for their hard work.

We definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again.

We came to the hotel as a family of 5 with two babies and were immediately provided with two connecting rooms. Since the beginning itself the staff made us feel comfortable and pampered. A big thank you to Julien, Asif, Sharonne, Cindy, Kamla and Lobin who made our stay memorable. Room service was helpful and catered to our demands without any qualms. The staff of the Kids Club were very engaging and caring towards the kids, special thanks to Pricila. Keep up the good work!

Having married at this wonderful resort some 15 years ago, we decided to return with our young family. We were not disappointed. LPH is a fabulous place, with pirogue styled rooms set in well maintained gardens in the resort of Flic en Flac.
The hotel adjoins the Sugar Beach hotel, and guests are able to share facilities including dining and sporting / leisure activities.
Due to the large grounds, the hotel whilst at capacity, during our stay, never felt busy. We were able to walk up to breakfast and diner without having to queue. Dining staff were always attentive, with special mention for Salonee at breakfast for her first class service and friendly conversation.
Kevin and the Housekeeping staff did a great job in keeping our room like new every day during our stay.
We could not fault the boat house team, with some great included sports such as paddle board, kayak, windsurfing, glass bottom boat and snorkelling trips to the reef. Which we took advantage of daily.
Yohan the Marine Biologist took time out to explain how he is undertaking research to find ways in which to restore the marine environment well worth a visit.
We were also grateful to Napaul at the Coconut Cafe and Tracy from the sports staff who together demonstrated the difficulties in opening a dried coconut, but there perseverance made our daughters day!
All in all a great stay at this resort for us, really great to see the hotel modernising over time, but retaining a really nice family friendly feel through hard working staff.

My wife and stayed here for 8 nights in November and had a wonderful time. We had visited previously, in 2001 and 2003, and there have been many impressive improvements since that time. However, what hasn’t changed are the very high standards at La Pirogue. The setting, facilities, accommodation, catering and entertainment are terrific but the attentive, helpful and endlessly cheerful staff are what really makes this place special.

We chose this hotel 20+ yrs ago because of the layout, with beautiful gardens, individual cottages and a long beachfront. Large holiday hotels with rooms in blocks, with corridors, often on many levels, and on a cramped “footprint” do not appeal; so that’s why we came back to La Pirogue on our return visit to Mauritius.

We used most of the facilities and ate in each of the restaurants, including dinner in Citronellas at Sugar Beach. All were good; Magenta was excellent but Citronella was probably a little less good than we expected. The Coconut Cafe for lunches and dinner was very good. The themed buffets in Woolmar restaurant were great. The Van der Stel wine bar we didn’t use, but did explore. It seems underused and may not be very popular.

It’s probably important to chose the correct tariff if you are planning a holiday here, we took half board which worked well. The additional cost for “all-inclusive” is substantial and I think you would have to consume a considerable volume to justify it. Moreover, quite a few food and drink items attract an additional charge on top of the AI tariff. We bought lunch every day, had lots of drinks and paid supplements for our non-buffet evening meals - our final bill was about 60% of the additional tariff for AI. So, chose wisely!

So, a great place to stay with a sophisticated and multinational clientele, wonderful staff and excellent facilities. We look forward to returning before too long for another relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

We came for 10 days to La Pirogue and stayed in a beach pavillon. Well, that pavillon (no 335) was situated between trees and palm trees and was very light and very very clean with a perfect view at the beach. Already at the check in everyone was exceptionally friendly and we were very warmly welcomed!
The beach: it looks like a paradise with turquoise water and soft sand under palm trees. Though some people think that they have to reserve a sunbed in the early morning, there are plenty of them and everyone finds a nice places with an umbrella.
The food/restaurant: breakfast is organized as a buffet where you can get anything you want. We were always served really friendly, especially Jonathan was very very friendly and helpful!! In the evening we invest in the a la carte restaurant, which was a nice quiet place with good food. The other nights we ate at the main restaurant (Wolmar restaurant) where they serve buffet. Though there are lots of people in this hotel, it is never crowded. Here especially Ravin did an extraordinary job: he was always extremely helpful and friendly and was always there for us, when we needed something. But also the entire crew of the evening buffet did. a great job. The food was always very good and since they change the theme for the buffet every night you will always find something new.

Apart from the hotel we rented a scooter for some days- we asked at the reception, where they were really helpful and organized everything with Arum from Klokan Motorentals- that was fantastic and just 20 minutes after they called him he brought the scooter to the hotel. That service from the hotel and the rental was excellent!

It is just to conclude, that the holiday was perfect and we‘d come back any time to this place. We never met people that were that friendly without harassing at any time and fulfilled every wish we had! Thanks a lot to all of you for making our holiday a perfect one!

Stayed at La Pirogue for a break away from the busy schedule. Happy to see how they put forward some sanitary measures like temperature check at the entrance of each restaurant and how they have well handled the buffet (changed from self service to them serving us). We are thankful to Julien who escorted us to the room, where he well explained the sanitary measures and was proactive at handling our request! Thanks to Cindy for her friendliness and thanks to Kamla who had well taken care of us for lunch and not to forget the team who take the initiative to change our beach towel when we got back in room from dinner! Overall was a good experience!
