If you are a tourist there is no reason to stay in this rather bland neighborhood, but the hotel is about 3 blocks from the convention centre, and also close to city hall, the M! Shopping mall, and the Royal Palace site (basically an archaeological site; not much to see there). There are many local restaurants nearby but you will have to ask to find them; they aren’t obvious. Hotel gets an extra star for me for the onsen bath- it’s more like the YMCA than a western spa, but very relaxing, a cultural experience, and free. Rooms are tiny, very clean but extremely worn and the carpets throughout the hotel should be burned. Breakfast is varied and good. Very affordable.

A stay at the Nara Royal Hotel brings a delightful mix of comfort and hospitality. Although the hotel shows signs of age, it exudes an old-world charm that many will find endearing. Rooms are clean, and the overall ambiance is pleasing, offering a sense of warmth and tranquility. The staff here truly shines, greeting guests with genuine smiles and going above and beyond to assist. They are friendly, professional, and make every effort to ensure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Despite minor signs of wear, the Nara Royal Hotel remains a great place to stay with its pleasant ambiance and commendable service, earning a solid four stars.

A nice but slightly worn hotel. Everything works nicely, but a few utilities could need a renewal. Hotel is located near a major road, so make sure you get a room away from this. Staff is friendly and helpful (Not all of them are mastering English, but as always they find solutions). Rooms are not big, but fully functional in design.

Hotel has really a lot of rooms, situated 10 minutes drive from Nara Park (where all the visits happen). They also provide a free shuttle if you don't drive. Staff is very nice and helpful. Rooms are a bit small (in line with what you usually find in Japan), but very clean and neat. There is a huge car park attached with the hotel (500 yen per day) which makes it very convenient.

My wife, daughter and I moved to this hotel from the Centurion Hotel in Nara as the rooms were bigger. Extremely helpful Manager who helped us with our plans and future trip to Otsu. The bar had Happy Hoyr 17.00 to 20.00 with half price on drinks. Sadly we were the only ones in there on a Friday night. Rooms spacious. Breakfast was Japanese/ Western and great choice.

Arrived on a Thursday afternoon. Took a taxi from JR Nara station. Found out later that we could have taken a hotel shuttle. The interior lobby looks grand. Check in was easy. Room with two twin beds had good space. Hotel registration included two adult visits to the spa. Had to pay extra for my 7 year old son to use the spa. Also had to pay extra for his breakfast meals. Breakfast buffet had many choices. Plenty of seating. Used my map app on my phone to get to Kintetsu station, about a 10 min walk away. Used the hotel shuttle for departure from Kintetsu station at the end of the visit. The shuttle stop is not at the station, about a block away. Overall a good stay, but the decor needs to be upgraded, it feels a little worn. And the location was a little far from the train stations for us.

Thank you very much for choosing Nara Royal Hotel. We appreciate you using your time to make a comment about your stay. We are glad that you liked our lobby, rooms and breakfast buffet. Please let us explain that children who are free to sleep with their parents, don’t need to pay for SPA, but amenities and breakfasts are not included. Therefore, the extra persons in the room are charged for towels if requested. We are very sorry if our explanation was incomplete. As you have commented, the building is a little old. We have been renovating the guest rooms step by step from April in order to provide better services to our guests. We would be delighted if we could welcome you again in our renovated hotel. Thank you for your feedback and valuable opinion. Kind Regards,

Good: The staff are very friendly and extremely efficient, plus we were given a free drink on our arrival. The room is a good size, comfortable beds and large bathroom with shower. We were also given tickets to access the their Japanese hot spring, that is well worth trying. There is a free shuttle service that takes you to and from the two main train stations and Nara Park. For a fee of ¥500 you can hire cycles for the day. Bad: The only negative thing was they didn’t supply coffee sachets, otherwise keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for using NARA ROYAL HOTEL this time. Also, thank you for your frequent use, thanks again for your comments. As for the location of the hotel there are difficult aspects, but I was relieved with the way that I enjoyed sightseeing by utilizing the free shuttle bus. From now on, we will strive to make a better hotel than the whole staff, so that our guests can stay in a comfortable space. We are waiting for the further use to Nara and when traveling to the Kansai area. The provision of coffee sachets in the rooms is for further study.

This hotel is an easy (terrain wise, it’s not signposted but my iPhone maos app made short work of that) ten minute flat walk from Kintetsu Shin Ōmiya station. It’s in a very quiet suburb one stop away from Kintetsu Nara, the closest train station to Nara Park. The palace ruins are visible from the train between Yamato Saidaiji and Shin Ōmiya. The hotel itself is large, with reasonably sized room and bathroom compared to some in Japan. The lobby is gigantic, and features a gift shop and a bar with a man made waterfall just outside. It’s slightly dated splendour, but the air conditioning/heating is new, the beds are comfy and the staff are very friendly. The front desk staff largely speak English, the bar staff don’t. The green tea dough pizza was yum though! The breakfast is plentiful and varied- very Japanese, even the ‘western’ options, but tasty. This hotel is a great option if you don’t mind walking with your case, want to be out of the hustle and tourist rat race, and value having space in a quiet locale. The one downside was that the scent of cigarette smoke was obvious everywhere

The hotel is very nice, in particular the huge size lobby and public bath. The shuttle bus service runs frequently and stops at different places. The buffet breakfast is really nice, with different variety of food. However, the lobby and the room had strong smell of smoking cigarettes despite air conditioning.

We stayed one night at this hotel. The rooms are small by western standards but very comfortable. The bathroom is modern with lots of hot water. Excellent internet connection. There is free parking, which is located beside the hotel. The sites are not within walking distance – so you'll need transportation. We had a rental car. The staff is very helpful and courteous – heck, the whole country is helpful and courteous, seems to be part of the culture. We didn't eat at the hotel restaurant – no English menu. There are a few restaurants in the area, but not a lot to choose from. This hotel is clean, modern and a good value. I would stay here again.
