This is probably the most modern hotel in Vumba, albeit with a very typical block structure.
All of the rooms and equipment are still in good condition and work well, as opposed to most other properties which are more of old houses/cottages.

The views are very nice !!

Staff could do with a bit more energy and awareness and sadly this lends itself to a below average dining experience.

internet is a bit erratic, both on Mobile Data and on Wifi, however in the main buildings you will be able to connect and do core functions.

I had dinner at Forest Hills in September 2022. It was an awesome experience. We were a group of about 20 and all enjoyed the starter, main course and desserts on offer.
The dessert table was an awesome sight to behold and most of us sampled the various cakes they had. Some had second helpings of the soup!
I am planning to go and stay with my family following this experience.

Arrived at resort on December 30th after having paid and booked in September. Called ahead 2 days before to confirm bookings and ask for food menus, as we wanted to make use of restaurant for some meals.
On arrival, restaurant didn't have 70% of menu items although we had called ahead. Ended up eating at Leopard Rock Hotel. There was no hot water on arrival either. After calling maintenance this was resolved after an hour or so.

Day two, no hot water. Yes there was no electricity but they have a generator which can heat up geysers, they just didn't bother to turn it on until we asked at about 10am. So cold showers for all 8 of us.

Day 3 still no hot water. In fact no water coming out at all. Again had to walk in the rain to go ask them to turn on generator. Why do I need to ask them to turn on generator when they know they have guests who need to shower. Most adults are awake by 10am so why not turn on generator at 7 or 8 am to allow for water to hear to etc? They eventually made a plan for the two or 3 who had not yet showered in the cold water. These lucky few got to shower in other rooms and run back in the rain after their showers... But at least they had hot water.

The hotel room building carpet smells terrible I think it's the damp carpet smell. Smells a little like cat wee.

The rooms not properly cleaned, found cob webs in my room and on window sills. Dirty towels were not replaced and simply picked up and hung to dry in the bathrooms.

Not enough kitchen utensils. Some of us stayed in self catering lodges and couldn't even grill meat as there were no baking trays in the ovens. Requested some but were told we don't have.

So sad to see such gem of a resort being wasted. FYI they are charging similar prices to much better places like Leopard Rock.

The place is located on a great location, overlooking the misty Mozambique mountains from the near horizon, with a beautiful lake adjacent to the mountain range. A wonderful view!

Unfortunately that's where the good news ends. We stayed in the self catering chalets in December 2016 and the service was terrible and highly forgettable. First, sheets were only changed on the third night of stay, and our expectations were sheets are changed every single morning. To make matters worse, housekeeping would start cleaning the rooms at 10am till about 4pm! This means we were having breakfast every morning neck deep in dirt!

Secondly, we requested cot beds at check-in, and were told there are no cot beds. We were then given mattresses which we were supposed to pay extra $15 each per mattress per night. This is despite the fact that we had email confirmation that we were to get two free cot beds per each chalets per night. So we refused to pay the mattresses.

Third, we were promised full DSTV per chalet, but there were only a few channels, less than eight. The less preferred ones. (We got video evidence for the promise!)

Fourth, the swimming pool was littered with loose stones at the bottom, and we are glad nobody got injured. The barracuda pool cleaner was on 24hrs a day everyday and became our swim partner. No management attention whatsoever.

Fifth, there was an uncovered construction zone by the braai area, with a steep cliff and lots of loose soil on it. No sign from management about the construction zone and not even the usual generic apologies. The steep cliff was unprotected and we are glad nobody got hurt. This is clear sign of lack of management attention.

To add salt to our injuries, the chef we were introduced to by hotel management arrived at 10am for breakfast first day, and breakfast was only ready around 12 noon. His cooking was full of oil and spices, and most of us had stomarch pains days after checkout.

I will never book here again. Even for free. And I will tell whoever listens.

Good Afternoon As the director we will strive to be better in Future. I will try to address all of your complaints individually. Housekeeping for the chalets begin at 8. They do not make up your chalet if perhaps guests may be asleep or not wanting to be bothered. Hence housekeeping clean once keys are handed to them. We have an extra charge for mattresses as you know the chalets have 2 en suite rooms and four people really should be the maximum number of guests. The extra charge is to cover extra housekeeping and wear and tear on an overcrowded chalet. On your meals. We can recommend an off duty chef from Leopard rock and they will use your ingredients and cook to your specifications. We actually don't encourage people to hire a chef as a third party because we have a restaurant that is more than capable of serving large numbers of people. Once again I would like to apologise that you did not enjoy your stay. It's very rare for us to have these complaints and where we can change we will. Thank you for your custom and we hope you can come back and enjoy the facilities as we continue to improve the property and our offerings

Amazing views no aircon as advertised. Rooms had musty smell with bathroom drains covered in green algae-like slime only used the shower as we were totally grossed out. Outdoor furniture was not clean and the bedding was torn. The food was mediocre at best. Worst experience was on the second night where we waited 2 hours for dinner when it did come the fish was undercooked and the fries cold. Breakfast was marginally better. The wait staff were friendly enough but clearly overwhelmed. Management should do a better job especially considering the Easter weekend is one of peak holiday periods. Overall this place is not value for money and I would not recommend it.

Stayed at the Forest Hills for a weekend gateway with my kids. We stayed in the self catering section and had an amazing view into the valley below. Very close to the Vumba Botanical gardens. The accommodation itself was clean if on the basic side. There is need for an update of the kitchen and bathrooms. It would be great if the Hotel could also organise activities for guests or at the very least provide some information. Wifi variable and cellular connection to Zim networks none existent so unless you are prepared for complete non connectivity you may struggle.

My friends and i had a wonderful stay at forest hills. The services were excellent and the staff was very friendly. We enjoyed the views from the rooms and the morning mist. The rooms were clean as well as the swimming pool. The food was delicious and the breakfast had a mixture of traditional and western food to accommodate everyone. I will definitely visit again and recommend others to pass through this place.

The hotel has spectacular views as it is set in the Vumba mountains overlooking a valley and into Mozambique. We arrived in overcast wet conditions. When the cloud lifted the next morning - it was was really a sigh to behold.

The conference facilites are standard. But be warned the Wifi and internet was very erratic. There is no (or very limited) cell phone coverage. I had to register on the Mozambique signal to make an urgent call. The alternate was walking up a few hundred meres to the main road.

The rooms seem to have been recently renovated and was in a good condition. Water pressure was average.

The real disappointment was the standard and boring approach to the meals. Could do with a major re-think / training.

The staff are very helpful and accommodating. I was surprised by the extended use of Interns - the manager sat around was an onlooker (in my opinion).
