We had travelled from Harare without booking accommodation as we had heard that most Hotels and Guesthouses in Mutare were of a low standard, overpriced and were not very pleasant, so you can imagine our delight when my wife and I stumbled upon “The Homestead Guesthouse” just a short walk from the town with a real touch of Irish Hospitality.

We were Initially greeted by Natalie with a pleasant and friendly smile, The First impression was how Clean and well kept the Guesthouse was, It was a delight to see a well kept Lawn and gardens and the rooms were to a very High Standard. The one criticism that I would have is that the resident Monkeys are a little cheeky and would pay us a visit as we relaxed by the Pool.

Every effort was made to make us feel at Home and the free Computer Internet access helped us put our affairs in order. The nest Morning we had a Full Irish Breakfast which was very welcomed, the whole experience was the best we had on our Holliday’s to Zimbabwe and with a reasonable cost you really can’t go too wrong

We stayed for 3 nights in the Homestead Guesthouse. The rooms are clean and the price is more than reasonable compared to other accommodations in Zimbabwe. The garden is beautiful and well kept. The staff is really helpful. They helped us rent a car and visit the Vumbas and Nyanga. Our breakfast wasn't that good as the other comments but still we would recommand this place to stay. Hope that we can come back soon!

We stayed for 11 nights in August 2012, we were a group doing voluntary work. This guest house was very friendly and it had a beautiful garden, plus a swimming pool. The position was good, it being possible to walk to the town centre.
The Homestead was able to provide us with a meeting room also, and to fit in with our schedule.

Please renovate your place. Your tvs are too old and beds and comforters need to be renewed. Its a fair place which need a little bit of modern touch up. Please please change your showers, sometimes they aren't any hot showers

We stayed overnight at the Homestead Guesthouse as we were going to a Cricket match at the Local Stadium. It was perfectly positioned half way between the stadium and the town centre.
Both the reception staff we spoke to were a credit to the guesthouse, friendly, polite and extremely helpful. We had booked The Miranda family suite and were Amazed at the room, The beds were comfortable and the room was warm and cosy, with its own Door to the Garden. The traffic could be slightly noisy as the main road is right outside but doesn't keep you awake ! The breakfast was superb, cereals, porridge, fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries, cold meat & cheese, bread for toasting and then a Hot full Irish Breakfast buffet ! as much tea, coffee and fruit juice as you wanted. There was so much choice you couldnt want for more, we certainly did not need lunch. We checked out at 10.00am but left our luggage until 5pm as we didnt head home until the evening. Our stay was just great, the choice of this guesthouse was perfect for our needs and would not hesitate to recommend to others

This was our second stay at The Homestead, such a beautiful place tucked away in Mutare. Stayed there overnight.Unfortunately the wifi was not accessible from the room that we were allocated which was a huge disappointment. Also due to heavy rains you could smell the moisture from the Ceiling I suspect .You could tell that the place has seen better days. The room was not very clean especially the mats that were in the room. The television in the room did not have a remote so basically we turned it on and off from the main PowerPoint and we couldn't change channels, I am not sure if they were available to chose from. The staff were really polite and jovial which was awesome. We booked for a double room thinking it was just a double bed in the room but there were also 2 single beds which I think we could have been informed about during booking. The water was nice and hot, it's only that a previous guest must have left their used soap behind.

En suite room 6 is a no go. It's right next to the donkey they use to heat the water for the showers. If you don't know what that is, then try it and learn. Room was very smokey thanks to the donkey being so close. It was cold so the security was constantly poking and scratching around the fire. This through the whole night. Very noisy and little chance of a decent sleep. Bed quite comfortable. No WiFi. No meals or even coffee in the morning, although the receptionist happy to have breakfast in full view of us. I don't think we stopping here again.

Hi Mark, sorry your stay was so fraught with disappointment. Your issues have been noted, and we have put together a refurbishment programme for all the en-suites rooms which will commence shortly. We have spoken with the night guard and asked him to please have more consideration for the guests who are trying to sleep. Not sure why the WIFi was not working at your visit, but certainly is up and running again. Have spoken with the receptionists and reminded them that there is no eating whilst on duty other than designated break times and particularly in public areas. Have also spoken with them to find out why you were not offered breakfast, tea or coffee. Hopefully our staff are all back on track again - we thank you for your time in reviewing the property and hope that future customers will not be as disappointed as you were.

The people there are amazing but the actual place is getting run down. Needs an overhaul. The pool wasnt clean. wifi wasnt free as they stated so that was really disappointing. Not sure I'd make a repeat visit here the next time I'm in Mutare.

I needed a quick place to stay for a last minute trip and chose Homestead.

When I first arrived the hot water didn't work. I asked for a towel and was told they were all out (peculiar, considering I was the only guest). The receptionist said she would come check the hot water situation in half an hour. I went to the reception after 35 minutes to find she had clocked off 5 minutes before.

I was also told the internet was good enough to stream HD movies; it is insufficient to even check your mail (unless you are willing to wait 10 mins to login). Furthermore, the WiFi signal doesn't even reach most of the rooms, including mine (one of 2 on-suites).

Then the security man said he needed to leave and so locked me in the hotel alone. Need I say if there was a fire or emergency I would've been %$^£%ed.

So, I sat in the lounge (only place the wifi works) in bare feet and was constantly bitten by certain unidentified bugs (95% sure it was cockroaches as they were rampant).

When I went to bed it was sooo hot and there were no fans (or receptionists) so I was sweltering, but that was very quickly overshadowed by the multitude of creepies swarming all over my body from the bedding; it was TORTURE!

I could go on forever.....and ever, but if the above is not deterrent enough, I'll leave the rest a surprise.

If you need advice about where to stay, I can recommend at least one cheaper one where they are amazing and several other good places.

Mutare is such a beautiful city. Enjoy!

An exclusive place for a gate away either on business or pleasure. I stayed there for a 3 nights and I really felt at home away from home. I would stay there any time I visit Mutare again. Friendly staff especially the lady called Preacher who works at the reception.
