We arrived at Camelthorn to a lovely welcome by Janice and Nor, and a suggestion from our guide Phets to go on a night game drive. We didn't expect much return from something so spontaneously offered, but before we knew it we were in the park and two male lion brothers were walki

Maybe it was the amazing game viewing, especially from the hide at Stoffie's Pan--maybe the true hospitality from Janice, Nor, Piway and others--maybe sitting on my balcony with a glass of wine listening to the dusk sounds in the bush--maybe the delicious and never-ending food--m

Hi, just checking what type of plug adapter we will need for our stay at Camelthorn - is it the South African style 3 pin plug?
Hi, we are staying at Camelthorn at the end of October for 3 days. I just found out that the rooms don't have air conditioning. Were the ceiling fans sufficient for you and did you sleep with the windows closed? Was the room cool enough at night? Thanks.
Not many places have air-conditioning nor a pool (plunge at best) because they use generators and water attracts animals esp elephants. Camelthorn is brick construct and significantly cooler than tents esp at midday. The ceiling fans were sufficient and yes we slept with the back sliding doors and windows open (they all have fly screens). You sleep under a mosquito net and are provided with insect repellant and fly spray. Very comfortable. Air circulation is the key. We had no problems. As with most camps on generator power, the power goes off at about 11pm and comes back on at about 0500 AM. You'll find the nights cool down and you get nice airflow with the windows and back doors open. We always felt safe. The property is patrolled during the night to keep animals away (primarily elephants) and is quite safe. You have a loud horn and torch/light supplied. You're escorted at night to your quarters by rangers. Sounds a bit melodramatic but you are in the wilderness and your safety and comfort is their primary concern. Keep in mind that the mornings can be cool (0530) especially on the back of a safari wagon, and then heats up so wear layers esp in early AM. 0500 wake up call for 05:30 safari departure. When the sun goes down it can get cooler but never bothered me however my wife tended to put on a light jumper. The main reason we upgraded to Camelthorn was that it is cooler, especially at midday than tents because of the brick construction. We absolutely enjoyed the luxury and found it very comfortable, a virtual oasis. Since you're going in October I feel obliged to give you a heads up that when we were in Zimbabwe (September) it was in a bit of an inflationary dive and $US were scarce. ATMs had long queues, $30 limits and run out so suggest you don't count on getting $US in Zimbabwe. South Africa was fine. We had planned to get more $US in Zimbabwe! Visa and Master card were OK and we just got by using the cards and some friends that could spare same $US.

Hi, We are visiting here in September. We are keen photographers who like to spend time with an individual animal and not dash off and photograph all around. Do you think we need to book a private jeep ? Many thanks, Jane
Hi Jane, Thank you for your question. Tim & Chris are absolutely correct, the guides are very accommodating and will ensure you spend quality time photographing the beautiful wildlife you see on your visit to us. We of course also have our 'Look up blind' at one of our waterholes, which is a wonderful place to spend many hours watching and photographing the wildlife that come down to drink :) We look forward to hosting you in September! Kind rgds, the Imvelo team
