Toka Leya is located directly on the Zambezi River and is an ideal location for someone wanting a safari experience with access to The Victoria Falls. This was our fourth visit to Toka Leya and it is always a favorite. The “tents” are huge and provide very comfortable accommodations. If you are a family, you can ask for a family tent which will sleep 4 people. They offer game drives (although this is not the best place for game), boat rides, fishing, village tours and tours to the Victoria Falls. You cal also arrange to visit Ebenezer Child Care Trust, a local orphanage and school. They also have a pizza oven and they make great pizza along with their other food offerings. The Zambezi river boat trips allow for great birding, hippos sightings and even elephants.

We stayed at Toka Leya as part of our Natural Habitat Adventures safari and it was absolutely fantastic. It was the first property we stayed at on our tour and as first-timers to Africa, it was the perfect way to "ease" into safari life. The property and rooms are absolutely luxurious and the staff are friendly, attentive, and just wonderful overall.

Our "tent cabin" was fabulous. The decor was lovely and it was spotlessly clean. The room itself was very spacious and it had a huge veranda that we sat on every day and watched warthogs, bushbuck, baboons and even a monitor lizard from. There was a mini-bar stocked with wine, beer and sodas, as well as a french press coffee maker that came in handy for our early mornings. There was a full bathroom with shower and even an outdoor bathtub and we always felt very comfortable. Every night the staff would do turn down service for us and set up the mosquito netting so we didn't have to think about it. They even took care of our laundry!

The main area of the property was equally lovely, with several different areas where you could sit and enjoy views of the Zambezi river. We appreciated the full bar, as well as the massage facility and though we didn't use it, we were impressed to see a gym with gorgeous views of the river. There was also a nice pool.

The food was fantastic. There was a great variety, and everything we had was delicious and was served with great care by the staff. Speaking of the staff, huge thanks and cheers to "Steven Steven" and his team for making sure we had an absolutely wonderful stay.

We loved all of the places we stayed at during our "Secluded Botswana" safari with NatHab (highly recommended!), but Toka Leya was by far our favorite. We hope to be able to return someday!

We found Toka Leya as part of a honeymoon package with Go2Africa. have never even imagined such a magical, wonderful place. Our transfer from the airport was smooth, we were greeted by the concierge upon arrival, and shown to our gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous cabin. We had sunset and sunrise cruises, land game drive, walking tour to Victoria Falls, AND a helicopter tour of Victoria Falls. I'm vegan and had TONS of delicious options. I loved my massage in the spa with the sound of the mighty Zambezi behind me. We had TWO bedroom services each day, TWO outdoor bubble baths drawn for us during our stay, laundry service, and such a kind and knowledgeable guide for our adventures. I wish that we had stayed for a full week or longer.

Dear 995carad Overlooking islands in the mighty Zambezi River, Toka Leya offers the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure; ideal for the beginning or end of your African safari. Morning explorations of the river, the surrounding Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park or nearby Victoria Falls can be followed by a tranquil afternoon at our spa or practicing inspired yoga on the panoramic deck of our gym. Thank you for your amazing words and we hope you will visit us again soon. Kind regards Wilderness Safaris

Name Not to be missed

We had a three day stay at Toka Leya. Our guide, Mailos, was extremely knowledgeable of the environment and could not have been more considerate of what we wanted to see and do. He became a friend. He recommended we visit the falls in the morning and by seeing the falls in the morning, we were rewarded with rainbows over the fall, adding to the majestic beauty.
Everything about our visit was exceptional. We had a gorgeous room with an outdoor tub where you could bathe under the stars. The food was outstanding…tasty and plentiful. I would also take advantage of the massage or facial. My facial was as well done as any I have had anywhere. Toka Leya has made a commitment to the environment and a tour of their back facility is well worth it.

after COVID, it was a delight to be able to visit Toka Leya again.
The stay was as magic and as beautiful as I remember it. The staff was the same and they even recognize me ( bluffing) and a little attention was waiting for me in the room (as a returning guest). The meals are always varied, the boat tour allows you to see elephants, crocodiles and birds up close. The visit of victoria falls with water is an incredible experience. I can only recommend this lounge.

On the positive side: This lodge and the rooms are very luxurious. The view of the river is unbeatable. The service and the food were very good. We did a boat ride on the river and a helicopter rider over Victoria Falls both of which I highly recommend. I’m not sure I would go there to see animals generally though as there are less of them because the park is smaller. Also unlike other parks where the cars can go wherever the animals are headed, the cars there have to stay on the road.
One negative point; we were there 3 days and on 2 separate days we had a bird fly violently into the glass windows of our room because it saw the reflection of the sky. Unfortunately both days they were these gorgeous blue red and white kingfishers so it was heartbreaking. I was able to save the 1st one but the 2nd one died. Not exactly what you want to see in a lodge that wants to be respectful of the environment. Plus if you multiply this by the number of days and the number of rooms you get to a pretty big number. There is anti reflective film that can be put on windows now (skyscrapers in most US cities ate starting to install them for the same reason) and I sincerely hope Wilderness spends the money to install them.

Dear NYFrenchie2015, Thank you for your review and we are thrilled that over all you enjoyed the lodge, food, service, activities as well as the location. Unfortunately due to being inside the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, we have to abide by the rules of the National Park and yes that does include staying on the roads. With regards to the reflective film for the windows to prevent the birds from flying into the windows, we have passed this on to our Operations Team, for consideration and possible implementation. Kind regards, Wilderness

Excellent safari experience. My family also stayed in 2 other Luxury Lodges in Zambia and South Africa which were at a different price point (you can read those reviews if you like). What set this lodge apart were the modern accommodations, air conditioning and the friendly staff. Right on the banks of the Zambezi River with easy access to Falls. Forewarning.... Victoria Falls has "a lot" of tourists and at times I felt like I was in a Disney Park. Toka Leya is far away from these crowds thank goodness. The food was very good but just a step below excellent (compared to the other 2 camps we stayed at). The safari drives to visit the White Rhinos should not be missed and of course, spend the morning at Victoria Falls. Shout out to our wonderful guide and the entire staff. You made our trip very special and we look forward to our return

Hello Wes-Andre, The family room does indeed have a door seperating the the main room and the second room and they are seperated by a shared bathroom so privacy within the unit is not a problem. This is the perfect place to relax and there are a number of activities in camp for children to make sure that you get enough time to relax and enjoy the calmness of the river. Thank you and we look forward to welcoming you all to Toka Leya

What type of adapter do I need so I can charge a US camera etc?
Answer from Wilderness
Johannesburg, South Africa102 contributions1 helpful vote
Hello, It is always worthwhile packing an adapter as a back up and for other properties. Each of our tents does have a multi-plug adapter (detailed below). If you struggle to find the correct adapter, these are available at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg, upon arrival in South Africa. Toka Leya is linked to the national power grid. Plug outlets (round 3-pin/2-pin plugs and square 3-pin/2-pin plugs) are available in the guest tented rooms and are connected to 220V/240V 13-amp alternating current (AC). If you have an item that runs on 110V, please bring a converter. Hairdryers and air conditioning units are available in the rooms. Hope this has been helpful. Wilderness Safaris

Hello John, Thank you for your question, luggage restrictions can be a little tricky. We would suggest that work with your travel agent for this regard as they can help you ensure your bag is delivered to the correct place - either directly into camp or via the Wilderness Safaris office in Livingston. As Toka Leya is within the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park the best address we are able to give you is: Toka Leya Camp, Park Road, Mosi-oa-Tunya NP. GPS Coordinates Toka Leya Camp: 17°51’19.50”S Latitude 25°47’15.83”E Longitude It may be easier to make arrangements with our office to have the bag sent there and they will then get it into camp for you when you arrive. Again your Agent can assist you with this making it easier for you. We hope this has been helpful. Wilderness Safaris

Hilton Head, South Carolina53 contributions48 helpful votes
What type of electrical current do you have and do we need an adapter to fit USA plugs?
Answer from Wilderness
Johannesburg, South Africa102 contributions1 helpful vote
Hello John, Thank you for the question, Toka Leya runs on the Zambian National grid which uses Alternating Current (AC) of 220V. Universal charging stations are available in each tent, however, we would suggest you bring your own adapter as a secondary measure in the case that some properties you visit may not have these. In the case that you may have an item that runs on 110V you will also need to bring a converter when you visit our camp. Should you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact your Travel Agent as they have full access to all camp related documentation that will assist you prior to your arrival in camp. We look forward to welcoming you to Africa Wilderness Safaris

Hello Barbara, We do have a touring company in Victoria Falls who will gladly transfer you from a hotel near Vic Falls to meet your group at Toka Leya. The easiest way to arrange this would be to contact your Travel Agent and request quote for a transfer with Wilderness Touring. If they are unable to do this for you your next best option is to contact our Consultants directly using the enquiries link on the Wilderness Safaris website and one of our dedicated Journey Specialists will make the necessary arrangements. Thank you for your question, Wilderness Safaris
