I will never forget our stay at Royal Chundu. The staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable about the area. We are a family of 4 and stayed in 2 island suites. We had to take a boat to our area. Beautiful boating on the Zambezi river every morning and evening. We enjoyed meeting the people that lived in the loca village as well as the kids in the school. 3 of the 4 of us are very picky eaters. The chef and staff made sure there was always something to eat. The day we took canoes to island and had an amazing lunch was probably our favorite. Just our family and it was perfect. We enjoyed speaking with the staff and learning from them about Zambia and the Zambezi River. We spent time with Moses, Anthony, Aggie, Hessah and Mantza. Everyone was truly amazing to our family. We will never forget this experience and lucky we were to visit Royal Chundu.

Beautiful lodge, horrible hospitality. They have a hard time accommodating to guests desires as the only agenda they follow is their own. While they ask you about dietary restrictions & allergies, they by no means stick them and do not provide alternate options. If you choose to come here you better be timely, not a minute before, not a minute after. Otherwise, the staff will not fail to remind you that you are late. On the evening of our arrival, a staff member named Mwantza interrupted our dinner to tell us our itinerary for the following day. She told us that we were booked for 2 activities, one at 7 am and one at 8 am. This was clearly physically imposible seeing as how the activities were far from each other. Even if they had been close, the time frame did not work- never mind the fact that one of the activities was mot available during that season or the fact that we had not booked it. After correcting us about what we had and had not booked, she requested that our entire family wake up at 5am for an activity that only 2 of us were booked for while the rest did not have a scheduled activity that morning. This request was made as the lodge did not want to schedule 2 transfers for us. After struggling to be given an itinerary that worked for all 6 members of my family, the staff had some confusion with our wake up and breakfast times the following day. Five minutes after we were woken up, they called our room to tell us that we were late and were supposed to be at breakfast. Once we arrived at breakfast, we were again reminded that we were late and in case we had forgotten throughout our 20 minute breakfast, we were reminded again that we were late. When I asked the staff how it was that we were late, seeing was we did not have an activity that was time sensitive, they told us that we should’ve been in the vehicle 5 minutes ago. I asked how that was our fault since they were they ones to mess up the times and yet we were still rushed. Rather than allowing us to enjoy our stay, we were pressured to stick to whatever was most convenient for the lodge’s agenda. While we had initially managed to schedule 2 transfers, one of the drivers left 2 members of my family stranded after their activity had finished. They were told they had to wait an hour for the rest of us to pick them up. When I called the hotel to try and figure out why it was that a driver was with them but refusing to take them to our meeting spot, Mwantza told me that the reason for all this was because we were late. Mwantza as well as Aggie, the managing staff at both lodges, were extremely rude to the members of our family, consistently talking back to us and reprimanding us for not sticking to their schedule. Overall, the lodge has potential but the experience is tainted by the lack of hospitality, lack of respect for the customer and failure to recognize their own

This is one of the most special places we have ever stayed. The Island Lodge is small, just four villas, with unbelievable privacy. The service and unexpected activities and events made it very special. The staff is attentive and personable. We really enjoyed the stay and hope to return.

My wife and I took a 3 week trip to South Africa/Zambia. The trip was a life-long dream and a retirement gift for me. As part of the trip we wanted to take in Victoria Falls. The company we worked with to plan the trip booked us at Royal Chundu for 3 nights. Royal Chundu is about a 45 minute drive from Victoria Falls. Our day at the falls was amazing but even if we hadn't gone to the falls, the stay at Royal Chundu was worth the trip all by itself. Royal Chundu is on the Zambezi River and we stayed in one of the Island lodges. You can only get there by boat. Very private and romantic. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her bubble bath on our deck overlooking the river. The food was fantastic. Hessah, Mwansa and the rest of the staff could not have been any nicer or better hosts. If you are planning on visiting Victoria Falls or just want a private peaceful getaway, we definitely recommend Royal Chundu.

Royal Chundu was simply a magical stay for us on our honeymoon coming from America. We have never before been met with service or hospitality like we were at Royal Chundu. The staff went above and beyond to make it an unforgettable experience. We really enjoyed the spacious accommodations, the absolutely incredible food (both traditional Zambian cuisine and foods like that which we’d find on menus back home in America), and the activities available at the lodge. We cannot recommend this place enough. It’s the best place we’ve ever seated.

My wife and I recently spent 2 nights at the Island Lodge. We had spent 40 hours traveling from the USA to Livingstone and from the minute we landed to the minute we departed we could not have been treated better. After the drive from the airport to the lodge, which is about 50 minutes, we were greeted by Aggie and her staff. All I can say is wow! From the immediate 10 minute stick massage of our necks and shoulders to the short boat ride to the Island Lodge and immediate sit down lunch in on the hotel patio we could not have been more impressed. Aggie then sat with us to go over possible activities (way too many for us to do in that short time) during our day and a half we would be there. The room was spectacular with a completely private setting overlooking the Zambezi River. There are only 4 rooms on the island and so it was all so private. There was air conditioning which was nice, great shower, and an outdoor bathtub (more later). After a short rest we were then taken on a sunset cruise on the river which is a real highlight. Great snacks and drinks as well as gorgeous sunset and views of baboons and an African Fish Eagle. When we got back we were asked what time we wanted to have dinner (completely up to us) and then went to the room where the bathtub was filled with a bubble bath, dark and candlelit, and a bottle of champagne. It could not have been more romantic. Dinner was fantastic. The next day we had a guided tour of Victoria Falls- March is perfect time to see them from the Zambia side as the river was flowing almost at its peak. Another highlight was the canoe trip to a private beach where we had a lunch buffet that included grilled meats, chicken, veggies, salads, and their own pizza oven. The day concluded with a boat trip to the village where many of the staff live and where the grandmother of one of the staff members showed us around. She and the rest of the staff could not have been more appreciative of our coming to the lodge and of how the tourism dollars spent there have improved their lives. It was tremendously heartwarming. The evening concluded with another lovely bubble bath and dinner. There are no words to really describe the warmth and hospitality that we felt by all the staff and we commend all of them and thank them. I should mention that it was my birthday the first night and they had a great cake with candles and the staff sang Happy Birthday- that was really special. I highly recommend the Royal Chundu for all these reasons with STAFF, privacy, activities, and food being the highlights.
