We returned recently from a wonderful stay at Waterberry. This was our second visit, the first one being in 2014. It’s a beautiful lodge in a wonderful location, and an ideal place to base oneself to enjoy the local sights around Livingstone and Victoria Falls. We spent a few days there ‘decompressing’ after arriving from Europe, before heading off on safari in Luangwa. Returning to Waterberry a week later was like reentering a lush and beautiful sanctuary, with its impeccably maintained grounds and its superbly attentive and friendly staff. Sunset cruises on the Zambezi are an absolute must: we saw an amazingly rich variety of animal and birdlife from the boat - with sundowner in hand. We also went on a birdwatching excursion with Webby, a member of the lodge staff, whose knowledge of southern African birdlife is encyclopedic, and who was a brilliant guide. The food at Waterberry was excellent, and dining on the terrace overlooking the river with hippos grumbling down below was a beguilingly vivid experience. We would highly recommend Waterberry as a wonderful place to stay, and also as a base from which to make safari trips to other locations, and then to return to recover.

We were very really fortunate to bookend two safaris in very remote places with staying at Waterberry
Arriving in Livingston airport we were met by a smart and friendly Waterberry driver, unmissable in a bright pink shirt.
We stayed in the Farmhouse, a four bedroom chalet with it’s own infinity pool and gorgeous veranda with dining and comfy seating area, all set in lovely gardens and overlooking the river.
When we left to go on safari, they very decently offered to keep my large suitcase safe until our return, unfortunately travelling in a very tiny plane meant taking a rather tiny bag.
On return from two amazing safaris in tents in the middle of two national parks, (neither of which had air con, it was over 40 degrees, one had no electricity at all and ice was a luxury) it was wonderful to see that bright pink Waterberry shirt at the airport. Iced drinks on board for our transfer back to Waterberry.
This time we stayed in one of the charming thatched chalets dotted in the pretty gardens around the main Lodge.
The rooms are very comfortable and completely clean , there is plenty of hot water, nice towels and cotton dressing gowns. And aircon.
The sunset cruise is the ultimate in relaxation, a flat bottom boat just yards from the Lodge, with drinks and generous snacks as you pootle up and down the river with an expert guide pointing out bee eaters, fish eagles, pelicans......
Normally you only see the ears and top of head of a hippo. My favourite memory was seeing a hippo having a poo. It lifted its rear end out of the water, and as it defecated it’s short tail moved back and forth like a high speed windscreen wiper sending dung everywhere.
One evening a massive herd of water buffalo came down to drink, leaving an impressive cloud of dust behind them as they pushed and slid down the bank to the edge of the water. Another evening a pride of lions were basking in the sun before edging towards the water to drink.
The food is good and they will happily accommodate for preferences and allergies.

But the thing that makes it all so special is the people. Service is unbelievably efficient without being at all intrusive.
All the staff, from cooks to gardeners, cleaners, managers, drivers, front of house..... they are all so nice, friendly, and appear genuinely happy to see you.
Many of these staff members have children at the local village school, a project supported by Waterberry (with the help of many Waterberry guests), a visit to the school with the local village guide is highly recommended.

My wife and I traveled to Waterberry for our first stop on what was supposed to be a 2 week long honeymoon. Unfortunately due to COVID our time on the continent was cut short, but we had to extend our stay at Waterberry an extra day while we waited for our flight.

Despite the circumstances, we easily had one of the best trips of our lives thanks to Waterberry and its staff. Everyone is incredibly friendly from sun up to sundown. We know because we made sure to take advantage of all the activities they had to offer. From sunrise or sunset river cruises, fishing excursion, rhino safaris, and trips to Victoria Falls we were kept plenty busy. The guides on all of the excursion are incredibly knowledge and friendly and really help highlight the beauty of the area. We were able to see numerous hippos, elephants, giraffe, baboons, various gazelle and beautiful birds all along the river.

The accommodations are top notch and only matched by the food and service. The staff is incredibly attentive and kind and made our stay that much better. We definitely left well fed as well. We enjoyed our private room on the riverbank that was constantly surrounded by monkeys! On our first night the staff set up a magical candle lit dinner right out front next to the river. To top it all of the entire place is beautiful their gardens are exquisite. Furhtermore, the lodge is doing great conservation work and supporting local communities.

I could continue to go on but just want to recognize what a top notch establishment Waterberry is. It wouldn't be possible without the staff who made our unlucky trip something to remember forever. We send all our love to them and would recommend this location to anyone wanting to experience the trip of a lifetime in Zambia. We can't wait to come back!

We were collected from Vic Falls by the wonderful Waterberry staff and transported across the border and guided around the Zambian side of the falls before the trip to this secluded haven. The idyllic location on the Zambian bank of the Zambezi overlooking the still grandness of the mighty river is picture postcard perfect. The attention to detail at this special place is striking. The staff are all wonderful. So attentive, kind and helpful. Delicious restaurant food for all meals including those on the boats. Cruising around the river is peaceful and always brought different animal and bird encounters. Sundowners are really magical. The Owl House family accommodation was well appointed, clean and comfortable and made us feel very safe even with hippos right outside at night. The village and school visits were important and special with our informative guides. Our three nights here were a special way to end our wonderful two week African adventure.

Just returned from a few days spent at Waterberry Lodge either side of a trip to Zimbabwe. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I stayed in a lovely private room with a huge bed, power shower, private patio and lovely decor (great for recovering from lots of travel), though the really wonderful part was the setting outside of the room. The lodge is right on the banks of the Zambezi in beautiful gardens full of weird and wonderful plants, trees, and flowers. Being right on the river gives the lodge such a calm and tranquil atmosphere - the only noise is the odd grunt of a hippo in the water! Boat cruises are a must and the sunsets are fantastic. We were lucky enough to see plenty of wildlife on the banks of other side of the river (Zimbabwean National Park). The guides were sooo knowledgeable and friendly, and could spot animals and birds at an incredible range! We made a day trip to Victoria falls - both the Zim and Zam side, and Waterberry staff arranged everything seamlessly. The drive wasn't too long and goes through a National Park, so more chances to spot something interesting on the way! Also, noticed how much noisier it was closer to the falls/Livingstone with the air traffic of helicopters/planes etc. Overall, I would recommend Waterberry to anyone, all of the staff are incredibly helpful and will go out of their way to make your stay memorable.

if you want to experience an African dream this is the place to go. On the bank of the Zambezi river the Waterberry river lodge offers a wonderful stay with excellent food served by a very kind and serviceminded crew. Thera are several activities to choose from like birdwatching by boat, a tour of the Victoria Falls or, a must, sundowners on the river.
Accomodation is offered in beaufiful and clean chalets or if you wish to add a safari touch to your stay, newly raised lyxury safari tents with proper bathrooms. We tried both and loved the tent where we could enjoy the evening stars by our own fireplace.
Groups up to eight can stay together in their river house overlooking the river. It has a private pool and all meals are served at the house.
The surroundings are beautiful and the price reasonable. We can nothing but thank the wonderful staff for a fantastic experience and recommend a visit!

We had a wonderful three night break at Waterberry Lodge following a week long safari in South Luangwa. Every part of our stay was perfect from collection at the airport, to check in with Eve and the accommodation, meals and activities.
Our air conditioned room had a large, comfy bed, locally made dressing gowns and a pleasant seating area. The customer service was attentive without being intrusive. The meals were both delicious and plentiful whilst seated in a lovely setting overlooking the Zambezi.
Our activities were all superb. Pascal was a good guide to the Zambian side of Victoria Falls and ably assisted us in crossing the border to see the falls from Zimbabwe. He was also an excellent driver and host during our evening cruise. We thoroughly enjoyed the cruise and lunch on our own desert island - idyllic 😊.
Thank you to everyone for a lovely stay.

A few well equipped lodges set in tranquil gardens with a lovely pool, bar and restaurant. Peace and quiet, wonderful personal service from all the staff and delicious fresh food make this an outstanding place to stay.
It is immaculately clean, the food is excellent. Eating alongside the river with views across to Zimbabwe and a national Park is amazing.
One of the staff will take you along the river towards sundown to see hippos, baboons, elephants etc and we even saw a croc.
Staff will drop you at the falls (not down them)) and take you anywhere locally.
Would not hesitate to return as there is much to do in visiting a local village and a school built with funds from Comic Relief.

It's hard to say how lovely this stay has been. First, they were very careful about masking even though we and all staff were vaccinated. Now, let me tell you that the food was delicious and plentiful, the rooms so comfy and beautiful, and the grounds picturesque. We saw hippos aplenty, zebra, giraffe, mongoose, monkeys, baboons and even spied a lion and elephant from afar. We came for the falls and there aren't words for that. But you must stay at Waterberry! We felt so pampered and the staff were very kind, easy to laugh and attentive beyond belief. Hazel made sure that all our needs were met, and checked in frequently with us. Webbi was a friendly guide with endless information and never tired of our questions. Finally, on top of all that, Waterberry has created and maintains 2 schools for the local kids that were lovely and well kept. The kids are fed 2 meals per day at school and use the local library (I think that is from Waterberry too). So if you stay here you can feel good that your money goes to help the local community. Would totally come back again. Hard to leave!!

The Waterberry proved to be an excellent choice of hotel for our stay in Zambia.
The suites are well equipped and maintained and set within landscaped, attractive gardens alongside the Zambezi River. The food was excellent and all the staff are very friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special. The terraces are lovely areas to enjoy a drink and mealtimes.
As well as visiting Victoria Falls, I would really recommend both the in-house sunset and sunrise river cruises and a visit to the local village and school - meeting the local children, who were so engaging, was another highlight of our stay.

Hi. We went in April and the lodge was fairly relaxed about masks. The only place we had to wear was on the plane .

Again I agree with the comments below. It is not luxury in the sense of a five star London hotel but it was the highlight of our South Africa and Zambia trip. Swallow cottage is peaceful and right on the banks of the river, you are woken by a member of staff with a tray of tea and biscuits and the sounds of hippopotamus. The rooms do not have TV but chairs outside to watch the river and wildlife go by and there is a lovely balcony lounge room with games where you can have drinks and socialise in the evening if you want. Wifi is fine in the communal areas. All food and excursions and laundry are included and they really cannot do enough for you, the staff are charming and helpful. If you do want Ritz or Mandarin Oriental type facilities it is probably not for you but if you want peace, beautiful nature, and attentive staff it will not disappoint.
