You should call the hotel. We got messages everywhere that you should never pay deposit upfront when asked for by email because it is fraud. We only had to pay when we left the hotel. So calling is the savest option.

This hotel was a little bit away from Ancient Town - maybe 1km. But it was on a main road that leads straight into the hustle and bustle, so no side streets to go down. My husband and I never once felt threatened in any way, day or night walking this road - there was always other people wandering the same road. BUT you do walk past a big open car park area where all the tourist buses park. It feels a little quieter at night, but is also across the road from where the main shops start leading into Ancient Town. There were also shops around the corner from the hotel (heading away from town) - my husband went this way a couple of times to duck out and find snacks - but I can’t vouch for cafes etc that way. The bikes were a great way to get around. The hotel was fantastic! So happy with our choice. Not a big place, but the staff were super helpful and very obliging. Very comfortable stay. We also found the bed was super comfortable - we stayed in a suite - not sure if the beds were different in there. Felt lux though. I hope this helps.
