Unfortunately, we came just 2 weeks after the 2016 July military coup that likely scared a lot of tourists to visit this wonderful country.
So, the hotel as well as the entire country was a bit empty and we had pros and cons from this situation.
Anyway, the hotel is a small inexpensive one, with a very small pool (is that really a pool!?!) but with running water, a nice terrace over the marina (but you cannot actually see the water as there are trees in between) and a nice communal area at the reception level.
It has an elevator for reaching the higher floors. It has some parking places in the narrow street on the sea side, but I doubt there will be many spaces available in a normal high season.
The strengths of this hotel stay all in:
- The room was extremely well kept and spotlessly clean. Notably they didn't have any carpet floor at all which I really don't like as it tends to become a bit loose and smelly after a while especially in a sea place.
- Staff was extremely kind and friendly.
- Room view was very nice over the gulf o Fethiye and a nice liberty villa - likely government run from the level of security and the people there
While the weaknesses are:
- The hotel was very hot because of the lack of clients and A/C was working apparently only in our room.
- Breakfast as quite minimal with little choice - maybe because of the few customers again?
- rooms are pretty small if we consider we have got the largest available for the three of us (three full beds and a nice view)...
- Our room was 301 and it was overlooking the bay. Possibly the best one as some hotel staff pointed out. I suspect all rooms ending with 01 are good as positioned below ours. Some rooms are facing the main street and possibly noisy. Ask for a sea side room which is definitely quieter.
My stay at the 3-star hotel in Turkiye left much to be desired. The staff's rudeness and the malfunctioning air conditioning were major letdowns, especially with temperatures soaring to 87-100°F outside. The mini fridge policy was puzzling – no personal items allowed unless purchased from the hotel.
The rooms were outdated and cramped, with uncomfortable beds that led to backaches. On-site car parking was promised but missing in action. The breakfast, with its high cost and lack of appeal, didn't match expectations. Sadly, the hotel lacked vibrancy and life. A stay to forget. 😔👎 #HotelReview #TurkiyeStay
1) no atmosphere
2) staff not very friendly (we did try honest)
3) Rock hard beds that give you back ache
4) 1 flat pillow...gives you neck ache to go with your back ache!
5) The cleaners will steal any money that is not locked away in safe (my daughter had £18 stolen from her bag) I know it is our own fault for leaving it in there but then thieving is wrong and she is only 14
6) Watch what you have from mini bar as I didnt drink anything from there but was charged £3.00 for drinks and crips (maybe the cleaners needed an early free lunch)
7) £20 is a bit steep for safe and its not refundable
I would not stay here ever again and would not recomend it to family or friends
This hotel admittedly was much cheaper than YBH as we negotiated a 'walk in' price of 120 TL per night including breakfast (50 euro, $80 NZ). Unfortunately, the price reflects what Doruk delivers which was variable. Hence, perhaps the paucity of Trip Advisor reviews.
There is no atmosphere at all at Doruk. There is a lack of staff and during our time even guests. There is a small reception area (where staff with limited English did provide normal service) that has a PC for guests, and a small seating area adjacent to the breakfast restaurant. Our room was spacious (larger than at Y B H) but basic, but had a good balcony and being on the corner had expansive views over the marina. We did use the balcony for evening drinks. Despite the basic features everything worked well, including the AC, and the bathroom was adequate if unremarkable.
The pool had sun for part of the day and there were plenty of sun loungers as in October the hotel was not well occupied. Perhaps this should have forewarned us. The hotel entry from the lower service road is best as entry from the main street was difficult with suitcases having to descend an extended staircase.
The breakfast buffet was simply horrible with no dining room service at all. It was laid out from early in the morning and that was it. The inadequacy meant no choices, no hot food, even with the meagreness of this basic Turkish breakfast normal components were missing. Basics like decent juice and yoghurt. Perhaps this was in comparison with YBH's breakfast, but it was the most unattractive breakfast we were served during all of September and October in all of our Greek- Turkish trip and at10 comparable hotels. Clearly, the cheaper hotel price is reflected in the breakfast offered. Be warned. It seemed the hotel had no concept of what other 3 star hotels offer for breakfast.
The hotel is far from the town's otogar but it is a cheap taxi ride if you are moving on by bus to Bodrum or the airport as we were. My further comments on Fethiye and its features are in my accompanying review of the Yacht Boutique Hotel
Hotel Doruk, therefore, is a place to stay and move on. It is a room to sleep. It is not a place for a holiday of any length, so when choosing this hotel at a cheaper price be aware of what the hotel offers.
HOWEVER - the safe did not work in our room, and the hotel were unable to get it working either. On the first day we left money and other items in our room (having spent over 40 years travelling, I and have often made this judgement call and its always been fine) and did not really give it a passing thought that we did not have the safe option. On our return we discovered that someone had been in our room (perhaps they knew the safe did not work ?), there was no evidence the room had been broken in to?. The money was in a zipped suitcase pocket and not just lying around! We had euro, lira, dollar and pounds they removed just one fold of £100 and did not touch anything else (we knew exactly how many pounds we had as we intended to pay the hotel in GBP). This was a calculated theft, I believe that who ever did it was gambling that we would not notice the theft, as they did not take A. all the money in the room or B. the assorted electronic ipad/other stuff etc. The Hotel management left the receptionist to deal with me when I reported the theft, their response was simply to tell me that there was a sign in the room telling us not to leave valubles in the room !! and seemed to have no interest in addressing the issue, even when I said I would l leave a TripAdvisor comment.
We should have secured our valubles but some of the staff were aware the safe was not working. We know that the money was taken and it was not an error on our part. This is a large hotel chain and a gesture of goodwill, or even a face to face conversation with management would have been appreciated.
Rather than up root our kids we stayed and even got charged for a couple of cokes and a coffee on our final bill!
Our advice if you stay, just make sure the safe works!!
