When we first took a look at Bonnie Castle in June 2021 it was in a bit of a sad state. The windows were dirty, the carpeting hadn't been vacuumed for ages, the entrance was shabby but this was a military wedding and in the time frame, had not much to choose from in the area. Covid had taken its toll and employees to clean and get the hotel in shape were hard to find. Fast forward to the rehearsal the day before the wedding - it was looking quite good! Much better than it had in June and the wedding coordinator at Bonnie, Bobby-Sue Roller, said that everything would be taken care of and that they had hired some top of the line 'front-of'house' housekeeping staff. Also they had a groundsman who would take care of the millions of pine needles and keep them off our daughter's wedding dress 'train'. Wedding day arrived and the venue was spotless. In addition Bobbie-Sue (unbeknownst to me and certainly not paid by us) became a 'Wedding Planner'. She whizzed around and helped us all to get in our places at the appropriate time, hid away the bride and her attendants when the groom arrived. sheilded the bride with a sheet (!) so that the groom would not be able to see her from the gazebo as she walked across the drive. Bobbi ensured that the DJ was in his place, the food was served appropriately and on time, the cake table was pristine and skirted (I made the wedding cake and the groomscake) - in short, she did everything a wedding planner would do for which they are well paid - and we never paid a dime towards this. Surely, she would be an enormous asset to any wedding venue or hotel. Amazing service. And she did all of this with a smile and made sure we were good to go well after the time when most employees would have been long gone to their homes. I can recommend Bonnie Castle without reservation but mostly because of the service and professionalism of Bobbi-Sue. She is a gem.

Let me start with the rain shower in the bathroom at 10:00 at night. Luckily the leak was directly above the so called hot tub so it did not flood our room. Looking at the ceiling tile I could tell this was not the first time and probably not the last either. The TV reception was great for the 1960’s with grainy picture on many of the channels and no HD. Paint was pealing from some of the molding. The window could not be opened because the crank handle was missing. The furniture was dated and worn. The bed was ok but the pillows as described by my wife were nice planks. I was looking forward to at least a nice shower in the morning, what was I thinking, no hot water, no warm water. The view was nice as we did pay extra to have a river view. Just a lovely stay.

DO NOT STAY THERE!!!!!!! I have traveled all over the united states and have stayed in so many hotels I couldn't count. I have never left a bad review even if the hotel was not good but this time i just couldn't hold back. I payed 377 dollars for 1 night at this place. I got one of the riverside rooms with hot tub and to be honest I have never been more disgusted with a hotel. The ceiling was filthy, The sheets looked like they were never changed and there was mold all over the bathroom. I talked to the front desk and this is their response. "Oh well sorry" I asked for my money back and they told me that wasn't happening and all they could give me was a 10 percent discount. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!! I will be filing a complaint with multiple agencies. I work hard for my money and these people just rob you blind.

We booked a week here as we absolutely love Heart Island and Boldt Castle. This was to be a romantic weekend so we could see the Island and Castle that we had not seen since 1995. The resort and my wife share the same name, so we thought that would add to the fun. The "resort" gave us a room looking towards the Island, as was requested. This was to a be a no expenses spared week, so we asked for "The best room, with the best view." The "resort" lists 3 onsite restaurants and breakfast. It also says it is updated, remodeled and such. Read on... Upon arrival, it is not a "resort, rather it is a big motel. A very dated, poorly maintained and updated motel. It is comprised of several buildings, none of which are clearly marked. Numerous guests, including us, drove past the the check-in area several times. MAIN OVERVIEW As soon as we walked in the room, there was an overpowering moldy/mildewy smell. Think of a vacant house. When the air conditioner was kicked on (better set it at 65 or lower, even on a 70 degree day) the smell was even worse. I am not sure if what I saw on the ceiling was dust ground into the paint, mold, or what. My wife said she was sure it was mold. In addition, there were screws/bolts protruding from the ceiling all over. Everything in the room was dated, worn, and dusty. There was an office chair in the room that would make you cringe due to the broken down and wobbly state. OSHA would boot the chair out of an office. There is a small fridge, no microwave. A small single serve coffee pot was in the room. The laminate floor was in good condition. I spilled some water and cleaned it up with paper towels that came up BLACK. I dropped a bit more water on the SAME spot and used a towel. The results, look at the photo. I later found, their way of cleaning the floors was a swifter type thing. BED and LINENS Comfortable and clean. Pillows were about 3 inches thick so needed several. We almost left at this point, but their refund policy is no less than 7 days prior, plus with the upcoming holiday there would not be many options. WI-FI Not too bad overall. About 40mbps BATHROOM (The Nightmare) Shower - Filthy as hell, NO water pressure; it would not reat reach the far wall of the shower. Either ice cold or scalding hot (for a few minutes at least), no in-between. Dirt, scum built up on the all of the corners (see photos). Jacuzzi tub was ok, two the four jets were not able to be kept in a given position. Due to the hot water and pressure issues, it took a while to fill the tub with lukewarm water. Controls on the tub did not work, so you had to use the controls mounted on the wall across the bathroom. FOOD No breakfast due to covid. 2 of the 3 restaurants were only open on Friday and Saturday. NONE of these were on the website or mentioned at time of making the reservation. The Pointe was open, food was very good, albeit expensive (2 sandwiches, potato skins and 2 sodas was about 65.00). Never ate at the other two restaurants. No change in room price for the false advertising, or lack of breakfast. Over the holiday weekend there was a Blues Festival, so every place had a band of some kind. One of the establishments on the resort had a big thing going. When we arrived to park at our place, an employee said we had to park at the far end of the parking lot. They were saving the close parking for the party goers. When I clarified that they were catering to bar goers over those spending a week here the employee laughed and simply said, "Yep." I tried for over 30 minutes to call the front desk and never got anything other than a busy signal. WORKOUT ROOM Treadmill, elliptical, climber and some dumb bells. Not bad. The ceiling was half falling down due to apparent water damage though. The door was locked about 50% of the time when it should have been unlocked 24 hours a day. OUTSIDE The view was 99% of what I expected and was able to get some great photos. The decks around the facility were old and in several spots a bit unnerving. Due to warpage and age, numerous nails had been pulled up and the heads created a hazard. Spiderwebs/cobwebs were everywhere. When I mentioned the parking issue to the desk clerk, I received a brief apology and she said that should not have been the case. No offer to speak to a manager, someone would get a butt chewing, nothing. This place has GREAT potential, however it is absolutely a dump. If you were traveling cross country and found yourself in a position where you had to stop for the night in the middle of nowhere, this is what you would find. This was absolutely horrible, and when you consider the room rates, it will cause one to become very angry. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Do not stay here - I had booked the resort for 4 nights , 2 double beds with jacuzzi for 890$. Room 235. First of all room was not ready for check in at 3pm. We drove all they way from NJ for abt 5 hrs. only to find out room was not ready and we had to wait another hour. They said they will call us when its ready, but no one called. We waited outside in our car. I had to go back in the office at 4pm and then they gave me the keys. Anyways, I ended up checking out a day early. We could not continue our stay due to unhealthy conditions of the room. Bathroom was gross, stains on toilet, unable to start jacuzzi due to missing knob, moldy, I had to call maintenance , spiders and bugs in the room, no coffee table, stains on the chairs, strange smell in the room , no cleaning services once you check in due to Covid policy, you have to ask for fresh towels and supplies everyday, change the sheets yourself, they wont give you fresh sheets until you put old ones out. Room carpet was filthy, you would not want to step on it barefoot. The only good thing about this hotel is the location and the lake side deck. I am sure there are better cheaper options. Nothing like the pictures posted on the hotel website.
