The short review:
If you are the kind of person/people who want to understand the essence of Bali in a clean, comfortable, great value homestay, ThreeWin Homestay is Ubud, Bali is your home away from home.

The long review:
My wife wrote another review, but I was so pleased and appreciative of our ThreeWin Homestay Family, I felt compelled to write my own. I have also attached photos of the homestay, the sunset from the 2nd floor and our ThreeWin family. For me, ThreeWin Homestay was a significant contributor to our Ubud, Bali transformational experience.

Our goal in going to Ubud rather than more popular beach communities was to live and experience the Bali culture on a deeper level than just being a tourist, doing tourist things. We wanted to meet locals and understand the peaceful, loving nature of Bali, which is so different than any other part of Indonesia. We decided to stay for eight nights in Ubud, the Balinese cultural hub.

We were initially attracted to ThreeWin Homestay because of the Trip Advisor reviews (#6 of all the home-stays in Ubud when we made our reservation), the affordable price, the quiet and convenient location, and the fact that the two units were newly constructed in April 2014. But it was a whole lot more than we expected! We could have easily stayed longer, but needed to move to our next destination on the island of Lombok.

True to the reviews on Trip Advisor, the two units were well constructed and like new, and bigger than I had expected We stayed in the downstairs unit. The units were very sound proof with no invasion from our upstairs neighbors. We also had an opportunity to see the upstairs unit. Both units had big king size beds, huge showers with hot water and modern clean toilets with a built in ‘tooshie’ washer. The ceiling fans circulated the air day and night. Just outside of our lower unit sliding glass door was our tiled, covered veranda with table and chairs. We enjoyed great breakfasts and evening glasses of wine/bottles of Bintang beer on our deck, only a few feet away from the beautiful garden and home alters.

ThreeWin is only a 2-3 minute walk from both excellent vegetarian/vegan and meat/seafood restaurants. Our hosts made excellent recommendations. We discovered that one of our favorite restaurants in Ubud, ‘Bali Buddha’ even offered home delivery from both their restaurant and their retail health foods store. So a couple of nights we simply called them and had our meals delivered to the ThreeWin Homestay. We ate on our deck in a peaceful setting of tranquil, lit gardens, the faint aromas sandalwood incense, and accompanied by the night sounds of the croaking geckos and chirping crickets. (Both romantic and spiritual-we couldn't have asked for anything more?)

One of the we appreciated about ThreeWin was that hosts Sampo and Putu and Putu’s Father Kardi knew so many people and resources in town. They took care of our reservations and passed along discount prices. They helped us to understand the quality of sarongs and souvenirs, and what we should pay for items in the market. It felt like they always had our backs.

In this loving homestay experience we also got to know Sampo’s mother (we called her Mamma) who lives in a small room in the family compound and their three amazing children, teen daughters Windi and Winda, and son Windu. We had an opportunity to go to a traditional Balinese dance ceremony and watch Winda dance. On our final night Putu gave me a cooking lesson and together we made gado-gado with peanut sauce (from scratch), homemade sambal and vegetarian curry. Truly amazing!

My final praise and thanks is for both host Sampo and his father-in-law Kardi who took us on inspiring (reasonably priced) tours in their comfortable cars. We purified our souls and karma in the Holy Springs Temple, saw two of the volcanoes break through the clouds at sunset, visited a small sarong factory where we watch women intricately weave single ikat and batik sarongs. The highlight of our tours was happening upon a village cremation ceremony. We had read about this on the web, and were told when we arrived in Bali that seeing/participating was only by chance. Our karma must have been good as we participated in a ceremony where four people were being cremated, one of whom was the high priest of the Balinese King. An UNFORGETTABLE experience of both death and life, all in the same moment.

All of these memory making adventures were made possibly by ThreeWin Homestay. Thank you Windu, Winda, Windi, Putu, Sampo, Kardi, and Mamma. You've left a glorious imprint on our minds, hearts and souls.

Felt a bit cheated. We booked the room from bookings.com for 5days. The location of the property is good as most of the restaurants and Ubud center is walkable. However, the room that we got alloted was horrendous. We got a room on ground floor with literally non exsistant flooring. Apparently there had been an earthquake that had completely dismanteled the floor. It was like walking on a cracking glass, and I am not exaggarating but not a single tile was firm. Whatever the reason but the property owner should have atleast made us aware of this when we booked the room. Even the towels that we got were worned-out, we had to replace them. The room was unlivable and we had to take decision to cancel our booking and move out. We paid extra charge worth 1 day as a cancellation charge. I request the owners to be more considerate and atleast make an effort to communicate the room's situation to the guests beforehand. People travel long distances and make plans in advance, and something so non-negotiable only ruins the trip.

Stayed at this lovely place for 3 nights in late April 2015. Comments by other reviewers regarding the property and the hosts' family are well deserved and valid. Rather than reiterating what many others have shared, this review will hopefully provide other information which might be of use to some travelers.

First, if you like to travel light and need to do laundry, ERA Laundry is less than one minute walk from the property. As you exit the property, turn left, ERA Laundry is at the corner. Inexpensive and excellent next day service.

Second, if you'd like to rent motorcycle or bicycle, the one I used is located close to the property. As you exit the lane and get on Jalan Hanoman, turn right. Within 100 yards (110 meters) or so on the right, there is a tattoo shop which also rents motorcycle and bicycle. I was quoted very reasonable rates upfront without any hassle or negotiation. (I rented a bicycle for 3 days.)

Third, the two best restaurants I ate at were Puri Garden (across the street from highly touted Warung Enak) and well known Ibu Oka (across the street from the palace). Ordered the famous duck dish at Warung Enak and it was expensive and so so. Ate twice at Puri Garden at half the cost of Warung Enak with decicious dishes. If you sit at the rear of Puri Garden, you will also be able to enjoy the beautiful Balinese garden settings. Ibu Oka is well known hole in the wall for its pig dishes (babi guling), and is inexpensive and tasty.

Fourth, Putri Ubud Spa (related to Putri Bali Spa) is a must visit for massages and spa packages. Excellent service, very reasonable prices, clean, spacious, with attractive decorations and surroundings. From 3Win, it is a short 12 - 15 minutes walk via the "short cut" way. From Jalan Hanoman, go on to Monkey Forrest Road. At the bottom of Monkey Forrest Road, there is a "short cut" through the shops to get on to Jalan Bisma. Putri Ubud Spa is close to the bottom of Jalan Bisma. And if you have two or more people, they will pick you up.

Lastly, be sure to attend the local temple's kacek (spelling?) and fire dance (which the hosts' daughters dance in). The local temple is only couple minutes away from 3Win. Buy the ticket from the hosts. I found this performance much better than the commercialized performance at the Ubud Palace, and the highly touted Prambanan ballet at the Prambanan Temples in Yogyakarta.

You will be welcomed into Sampo and Putu’s family and not want to leave!  Brand new, meticulously clean spacious room and bath. Quiet location with a beautiful garden; a very short walk (two minutes) to restaurants and shopping.  From being picked up at the airport; amazing tours Sampo and his father-in-law took us on; delicious breakfasts; help with finding an acupuncturist and getting meals delivered to the homestay which we could enjoy on our veranda; watching second daughter Winda get dressed for her dance performance and then being mesmerized by her talent on stage; enjoying youngest child and son Windu’s playfulness; watching oldest daughter Windi patiently help her mother; being cheerfully greeted each morning by Sampo’s mother, to heartfelt conversations and lots of laughter, we were enveloped with caring, kindness, and love!

What a wonderful combination of privacy and familial intimacy! We experienced first-hand the beauty of the Balinese culture.  Whatever reason for your visit to Ubud, ThreeWin Homestay will add its own magic!

We spent 7 nights at the ThreeWin Homestay at the beginning of November. We enjoyed their hospitality very much! Both Sampo and Putu were excellent hosts! Putu took me to the market on her scooter one morning and helped me select fruit to pay at loca price.

We have a rule that wherever country we travel to, and if you are not supposed to drink the tap water, we don't eat restaurant salad except they wash it in mineral water. At mid week, We missed salad very much, so we decided to pick up some lettuce from Coco supermarket nearby and a piece of tuna, since it was so cheap. For an half of a kilo, we paid Cdn $5. Putu went out of her way to cook it for us! She was truely a great cook!

The grandma lives with the family and no matter the time of day, she always has a smile on her face! Although we did not speak the same language but we managed to smile at each other and use hand gesture to communicate, universal language!

Their little boy was adorable and the two young girls were cute! We learned a lot about Balinese life style from them. The Homestay is centrally located, we pretty well walked everywhere! We particularly like to go to Senimen Cafe for a cup of espresso! The place was run by expats and roast their coffee across the road from the cafe! Best coffee in Ubud!

The only thing we regretted was not leaving any tips behind. Before coming to Bali, we read from the forum that tips was unexpected and not necessary. Some even said it was an insult. We learned soon after arriving to Amed. The host there cooked meals for us without charging. When we inquired, they told us just leave some tips to the staff!

So Sampo and Putu, if you read this message, please accept my apology for my ignorance and misunderstanding not to leave you extra. You and your family did go out of your way to make our stay a memorable one. A big thank you and much kisses and hugs to you both and the family!

My sister and I stayed at Threewin Homestay for 2 weeks in February. We chose Threewin after reading the great reviews on TA. We weren’t disappointed! Threewin is a comfortable, well-located and very affordable place to stay. The rooms were clean and comfortable with good working aircon, which was important for me! Breakfast was simple, but fresh and tasty. Threewin is exceptionally well-located. Just off Hanoman, one of the main streets in Ubud, everything is accessible. A short walk to ATMs, grocery store, great coffee shops and restaurants. Also available on Hanoman, across from Anila Lane (where Threewin is located) is the Monkey Forest Shuttle. This is a free shuttle bus with set stops on some of the main streets of Ubud. Definitely worthwhile knowing about and surprisingly not well-known when reading about Ubud. We could not have been happier with our stay at Threewin. A big ‘suksamah’ to Putu, Sampu and Wayan for making us feel so comfortable and for your warm hospitality!

This was my first full solo trip and first time to Bali. I booked the ThreeWin homestay as a good friend had recommended it. I arrived late due to flight around 11pm but they were very accommodating. Perfect location and the family are friendly yet professional. Breakfast is included which was delicious each morning. Room was a great size and they assisted with irons and adaptors etc. Will definately return, thank you 💕

This was our second stay at ThreeWin and we are, again, so happy we chose to stay here. Transfers to and from the airport can be arranged with Cardi, Putu’s father. Putt and Shampoo are so kind and friendly and we’re able to answer any questions we had or point us in the right direction so that we could make the most of our time in Ubud. Each morning, Wayan, organised our breakfast and cleaned our rooms. Everything was done with a smile! The cleanliness of the rooms was excellent and added to our overall comfort. Another wonderful stay and we plan on rebooking as soon as we can.
