Clentelle middle class, upmarket, solo travelers reading books in whicker chairs. Fab pool and luscious plants Owners love animals, breakfast great. Rooms air cor and fan, fridge, Clean peaceful plenty of tables.Quiet at night Shutters on windows for privacy. Mr Vichy is the cat, you see him, we fed him tuna. The owners are quick to rectify any problem, our toilet did not flush, new room given . Outside turn right and your 6 mins from the beach. So clean and great value in Santa Marta. If you don't want street vendors outside then the ONLY option is the enclosed private citadel of top hotel names, which offers no better security than we had. The bus to Cartagena stops outside. This is genuinely an upmarket oasis. It's difficult to leave the pool and luscious vegetation . You can get snacks, e cigs beer from street vendors passing by in seconds. The hotel sells alcohol also. On some nights it offers a dining night, the dining room reminds me when James Bond was in Cuba if you've read Flemming. What a pleasure, different, cant understand why it not mobbed in tourist season

Nice location, right in the center of everything (though i guess everything is in the center in Santa Marta). I have stayed two nights on the different occasions but i believe they expected me back so they didn't give away my room for the entire time i was away (about 7 days). They had a storage room so it's pretty safe to leave your luggage there.
Hotel is very nice and well mentained, but i have to agree with a previos review that bed and pillows were pretty hard so i slept on the bed in my own sleeping beg.
Breakfast was fantastic and the personel very helpful.
I didn't have problems with bedbugs though i saw a huge cockroach in my bathroom. Needless to say that after 5 days in South America you get used to them and don't pay attention. So i wouldn't say it was something extraordinary.

The hotel has a warm and authentic atmosphere! Cute traditional decorations and plants make you feel welcome. You really feel like in Carribean. A lot of cosy spaces where you can just read a book and relax or drink a bottle of beer. The room has all you need - conditioner, fridge, TV. I loved a shelf of books in the common area! Also, I had to do some papers for and did not have pc with me, but it was not a problem - in the hotel they have a computer that saved my life! You can always buy some cold drinks there if you are too lazy to go to the shop. Price is the same. Breakfast is simple and delicious.
Very important thing - I got horribly sick one evening. The hotel has 24h Medical assistance and called to doctors who took care of me.
The hotel itself and area around is well secured. Very close to the sea and other popular places. The staff is friendly and helpful all the time. Thank you for everything!

We picked this place as it was one of the less expensive in Santa Marta which is somehow expensive. The room was clean and comfortable. I had booked a room with a fan but Javier, the manage let us upgrade to an A/C room at a discounted rate which was nice. The hotel is located in the historic center about a 5 min walk to plaza de Los Novios where many of the restaurants are. It was no problem to walk at night. There are some shady characters on carrera 3 at night but just take the next one over if that bothers you. They seemed harmless. There is also a laundry right next around the corner which was very convenient after doing the lost city hike! The hotel stores your bags with no hassle. Wifi works pretty well. They helped us book a bus to cartagena and were generally very helpful and accommodating. They even greeted me by name after I came back from the lost city hike....nice touch!

Great place, friendly and from all the hotels we have seen in Santa Marta definitively the one with the best value. I especially liked the Slow Food restaurant that they recommended.

We arrived with a big group and were originally told by phone that we would be put in three rooms but upon arrival were told we would have to pay extra unless we all shared their large room which we did. The hotel is centrally located but the street is dark and scarry at night and appeared to have many working girls down the street. The price of the hotel is significantly higher than the Lonely Planet quoted although I was using a 2006 edition. After two nights stay we were hit for approximately $60 more because we were told we had two more people than originally counted. In short, not worth the price especially if traveling with a larger group.

Stayed there for two nights in November and returned for a further night after Tayrona National Park. Located in the historical centre just two blocks from the sea front it is very convenient for nearly everything. Staff were very friendly - especially Judith who is a real gem!! I left my bag in storage there whilst staying in Tayrona. Rooms are clean and I had no insects in my room (lots of them in the streets when out at night), the only negative maybe that the beds are really quite hard. Breakfast served outside in a very nice garden space - was all very enjoyable ! There is some red light activity going on at night in the surrounding area of the hotel but the hotel itself is very secure.

Arrived Santa Marta late at night a stayed at the Hotel Yalumba on the waterfront - grim. Next morning went looking and found the Hotel Nueva Granada. Delightful gardens, friendly staff, good breakfast, free bottled water, great location, safe in room, even a small pool.

Price well worth every peso. 70,000 for two. Desayuno incluido!

Perfect location in historic center, two blocks from the sea. Very secure, reception manned 24 hours.

I stayed here for one night on the 5th of August. I had been in Santa Marta for a few days and decided to stay one more day last minute. I ended up staying here based on the reviews. I am glad i stayed only one night! The room was very small and very old and dated. There were cracks on the walls and it smelt funny. There were dead cockroaches in the wardrobe as well. It was just disgusting and i am shocked there are so many good reviews on here! i would never stay here again and if tight on money would rather stay in a hostel. The breakfast served in the morning was so sad and honestly better to eat elsewhere. There was some muesli that was being served with yogurt that looked like it had curdled. Ewwww! Anyway, the upside is that the staff were lovely and the outdoor area with teh sitting are and pool were pretty and nice to relax by. I do not recommend at all!

It was only the one night for me here, as I was going on the Cuidad Perdida hike the next morning. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed it.
The hotel is located in the heart of town, has a colonial atmosphere and is nice and quiet with a very friendly owner.

Great breakfast as well in the morning.
I would definitely go back here
