My boyfriend and I stayed for one night here on our way back from Cartagena. We wanted to spoil ourselves a little before coming back. The hotel earns 6 stars for service, food, presentation. The staff are very helpful, charming and bring a new name to service, they are the best staff I've seen. We had a welcome hand massage and a delicious welcome drink.

The hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff are amazingly helpful. The rooms and every corner of the hotel is extremely clean; our room was always clean and organised. They gave us a beautiful and romantic decoration with roses, so lovely!!!

Breakfast is great, you have different options to choose and all of them are really good. Their juices are delicious, and you have to taste their cocktails!!!

The hotel offers very nice transportation to all the important touristic places of the city, and you can get the best massage of Colombia here.

If you are going to visit Santa Marta, you have to stay here!!

We stayed at this hotel a few nights and it was the perfect choice. Good value for your money. It is super clean and nicely decorated. The pool is a bit small but is always clean; it is a plus for those super hot days in Santa Marta.

It is located just a few steps from really good restaurants and a few blocks from the ocean.

Also, their breakfast is limited but deliciously prepared by two lovely ladies. BTW their staff was very friendly and accomodating.

We totally recommend this cute hotel.

We stayed there for 2 nights. The first night was very good, Anthony was very helpful and overall service was great.
Then at 6 pm of our second night crisis struck, energy went out - which meant that the Air Conditioning and fans did not work and neither did the water pump, so we had no energy nor water in the rooms.

Although the person managing the night shift was extremely nice and tried to keep us informed of what the energy company said, he did not have the seniority to manage this situation. By 11 pm we still had no response from senior management on what or how they would help us spend a comfortable night. I understand that it was out of their hands since there was an energy problem in the sector, however little things would have gone a long way in such situation: free drinks, getting us hand fans, sending ice to each room anything to make us feel that they actually cared.. After spending one of the most uncomfortable nights of my life (it was incredibly hot), by 8 am the next morning we still did not have energy, or water or news from senior management!

It is really a beautiful hotel and the staff there is very nice, but the lack of news from management was really upsetting, when there was clearly a crisis to manage. They ended up not charging for that night, which was the least they could do. But, I am still waiting to hear from senior management apologizing for the overall situation and how they managed it..

This was, by far, the worst hotel experience in my life of travelling through 78 countries.
During my three week trip to Colombia, Panamá and Brazil, La Casa del Piano (a “boutique” hotel) ranked the most inefficient customer service that I ever saw.

On our airport transfer we were told we would be taken to Casa del Piano instead of Casa del Farol, the hotel we had booked through our travel agency in Lisbon and confirmed by them prior to our departure to Colombia.

A mistake was made by the local correspondent agency in Colombia and we were booked at Casa del Piano, belonging to the same Hotel Group of Casa del Farol. This, obviously, was not the hotel fault but we were quite upset as we had carefully chosen all the hotels for the entire trip.

We arrived on a very early flight from Cali via Barranquilla, at 9 am we checked in as three rooms were checking out. We were told that our room was not ready yet and that they were only obliged to have a room ready by 2 pm. No problem! We know we are early.

We finish the check in, left the two trolleys and went looking for a place to have breakfast and do a bit of sightseeing.

By 12 noon, and still wearing our “south Colombia winter clothes”, the temperature was getting very high and we decide to go back to the hotel to see if they already had a room available since 3 of them were checking out early that morning.

Upon arrival we asked if it was possible to have a room at that time, answer – No, it’s not ready according to our comfort standards” and, once again, we were told about the 2 pm check in policy.

No problem, we will wait in the lobby were it is cool away from the torrid Caribbean midday sun, after all we had a tour booked for 2 pm and needed to wait at the hotel for the pickup. At 1:45 pm our guide arrived to pick us up, we told him that the room was not available and we wanted to change for more comfortable clothes, no worries, he said, we wait and leave at 2:15 pm.

At 2 pm, the check in policy time, I headed back to reception, were the two smiling but inefficient young girls sat, and asked for the room. I was then told that the room was still not ready because they had to go to another chain hotel - Casa del Farol, to get towels and bed sheets as there were none at Casa del Piano!

We were quite upset as this information was only given to us at 2 pm and we were not allowed in the room. We left for the tour.

That night, after a wonderful historic tour of Santa Marta we arrived at hotel were the room was waiting for us with no hot water and no WIF service. We complained to reception, were another young man told us that we were “making things up”, we asked him to go up to the room and check and only them he confirmed that there was no hot water and the internet service was not working well.

The second day there was no hot water again, we complained and nothing. At the end of the day they offered a free 10 minute hand massage as an apology, we didn’t take the offer.
Breakfast is below average and if you want an extra cup of coffee, be prepared to pay an additional charge! Swimming pool was dirty. Otherwise the hotel is located close to one of the main shopping streets of Santa Marta, you can hear all the car noise from the street, besides that, you need to ring a door bell every time you need to enter the hotel, and everyone else - employees, guests, maintenance, suppliers. This bell can be heard clearly in the upstairs rooms all night long and early morning.

But the worst was still to come, after checking out and paying for our mini bar items, we were accused by the “breakfast lady” that we had steeled two pillows and not paid for the Pepsi that we had.

The reception staff watched this without saying anything, I had to show her the receipt for the Pepsi and only then the manager came out apologised and told her in Spanish, language that I speak and understand, that the room had to be done quickly the first day with two pillows instead of the usual four because they didn’t have enough items at Casa de Piano to finish it up!

The entire staff is incapable of sorting out problems, they are have no language skills, no customer training, completely clueless of what they should do. The 3 reception staff members and their young manager along with the “breakfast lady” should be sent to intense training in hotel care, or, if it depended on me, fired immediately.

The all experience was ruined by a poor costumer service, it almost felt that this hotel was runed by amateurs.

Poor customer skills when confronted with lack of hot water, internet connection or breakfast requests.

It is also very, very noise, sleep quality is ruined by the noise of cars in the main shopping street and by this anoing door bell that keeps ringing day and night.

The hotel is wonderfully located but it needs urgente attention when it comes to staff qualification.

I would not recommend it!

The hotel is incredibly dirty and you will notice that as soon as you go in being welcomed in a dirty reception with not air conditioning. The counter of the reception is actually sticky and dusty. The photos you will see on any booking sites are wide angled to make the rooms look bigger in reality they are not apart from the high ceiling. There are not windows looking on the outside meaning there is no natural light making it rather claustrophobic. Now the choice of making the furnishing and the interior design white does not help hiding the dirt. I had a very bad service from them when pointing those things out I wanted to cancel my booking made through hotels.com and paid in advance. They told me about their not refundable policy and excused the dirt and poor maintenance of the hotel only saying "we are sorry this is an old building". I complained to Expedia ( hotels.com) and they were not helpful at all. When I suggested to at least change room they just told me it would cost me more. Something that I've never had before, on the contrary in other hotels they always try the best to accommodate the needs. I also suggested to move my reservation to another of their closer hotels and was told they were full, when I checked they actually had availability. Weird! So in my opinion you are better off somewhere else. Also the location of this hotel is extremely noisy and trafficked which doesn't help either with the heat and the humidity. So I would not recommend it even though the price seems low you are still better off in some of the nicer Hostel or more modern hotels near by.

I have not stayed at this hotel but I have lived in Santa Marta for 2 years and this hotel opened up near my house. I wanted to look at the hotel for when friends and family visit. I entered the lobby and explained this to reception. They would not let me look around, instead they gave me the email address and told me took at pics on line. A month or so later I had some friends staying there, when I went to the hotel to pick them up for dinner, the desk staff were out front so I asked for my friends by name, when they went inside to look up their names, they shut the door in my face not allowing me to enter. They came out and asked for the room number, I said I did not have the room number only their names, they then refused to get them since I did not have the room number as well. I have never been treated so rudely at any other hotel in Santa Marta.

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for one night prior to beginning the Lost City Trek. We don't usually stay at hotels but wanted to leave our bags for 3 nights somewhere while we were trekking and thought this hotel would be a safe bet. Alas we were very wrong. Granted, the rooms were clean and spacious and the breakfast filling but i was disappointed to find that money was stolen out of my bag and my bag was broken while I was trekking. We left our bags in the luggage storage room which is only accessible by staff. I approached the hotel once I realized and was hopeful when I heard that the luggage storage room is under video surveillance. I was told that the footage would be checked and that I would hear from the hotel the next morning. I received an email an hour later telling me to check my bags again as their records showed that I did not have the money in my bag. How they managed to check over 4 days of surveillance in 1 hour still baffles me. I re-approached the hotel and asked to view the footage myself with the manager. I was told I needed the police with me in order for them to release the footage. I obtained a police report and took it to the hotel. I was then told that no this did not suffice, I needed a court order to obtain the footage. The hotel was looking guiltier by the minute! Why would they not just let me see the footage?! I was extremely disappointed with how management addressed the issue and how I was treated by the hotel staff. I felt as though I was being 'ganged up' on by the hotel and that all the staff were in on the theft. I expected a lot better from this reputable hotel chain, won't be back and certainly won't be recommending for anyone to stay at Xarm Hotels.
