Stayed here for 3 nights total in between going to tayrona etc. Great hostel, very nice staff, wifi in the rooms. It's also a small hostel, so very easy to meet new people. Got helpful infos from the owner about trips to tayrona and other surrounding attractions. Comfortable beds, average breakfast.

We had such an amazing experience staying at Espanolete. From the beginning Tony and his wife welcomed us with their hospitality. First we got a room at the front side, but then they offered us the bigger private room. The rooms are clean, spacious, even the dorm looks amazing with a split-level and own bathroom! Tony and his wife do everything to make your stay as perfect as possible. Tony helped us booking the Ciudad Perdida tour and we could even leave our bags and valuables at their place when we were on our hike. When we got back from our hike, my boyfriend had twisted his ankle and Tony immediately had a special cream that will help healing. Breakfast is gorgeous and cheap. You can even get a massage if you want. Tony also provides a map and things to do in Santa Marta (located in city centre close to all tour agencies) and arranges laundry and taxi if desired. It's by far the best and most friendly stay we had in Colombia!

For us the absolute highlight of this hostel is the staff. They are extremely helpful and friendly, speak perfect English and go out of their way to accommodate their guests. Big kudos!

Apart from that, the location is absolutely spot-on, close to the bar area and the beach, but still quiet enough to really enjoy your sleep. The rooms are spacious and clean and so are the two shared bathrooms.

We only stayed here, so no comparison to anything else in Santa Marta, but we would not want to go anywhere else. Great place!

The location is literally perfect, right next to the waterfront, the night district near park novios and many banks atms, markets. The staff recommended some amazing restaurants and tips which all turned out to be incredible. The dorm is spacious with plenty of power sockets, and a lay back vibe. The private room with aircon was a perfect slice of South American flare with tasteful decor and a comfy bed and high ceilings. Would stay here again without a doubt! Coffee served in the morning was top notch Colombian!

We really enjoyed staying at this hostel. Clean rooms, good breakfast and extremely friendly and more than helpful staff made our stay very nice. We could leave our luggage at this hostel during the Ciudad Perdida trek.

I spent an entire week in Santa Marta, with every night being at El Espanolete, and I would not have it any other way. While the location is A+, and the accommodations are very nice and clean, it is the staff that makes this hostel a standout in my mind.
Moses, the front desk man, pulled all the right strings for us - from booking the beachside hammocks for our stay in parque tayrona to pointing us to all the right restaurants in town, to most importantly, making sure that we were comfortable and happy with everything we needed.

I would 10/10 recommend Espanolete. It's a wonderful place.

We stayed in the dorm at El Españolete for a few days in April 2017 and loved it.
They offer clean rooms at good prices, with perfect and safe (!) location close to the city center as well as the beach.
We felt very welcome and were happy with the open and friendly culture among hosts and guests.
They allowed us to leave our luggage in the hostal during the 4-day-hike to Ciudad Perdida. They gave us a whole lot of information and never became tired of our questions. Moreover, they warned us in regards to rather unsafe areas in Santa Marta at night.
Many thanks to the super friendly Spanish-Colombian couple!

The hostel is located just a couple of blocks away from the marina in Santa Marta, the street with all restaurants, el parque de los novios and the cathedral.

Toni and Nuri were very helpful, welcoming and offered great advice on all questions we had regarding traveling to the Tayrona park, Cartagena, buying souvenirs and so on.

They even gave us complimentary coffee and bread for breakfast even though that was not included in the reservation we made.
