Let me start of by saying that the staff at GHL Hotel were VERY helpful. The minute we walked through the door we were treated like family. The check in process was very easy and quick. We didn't have to worry about our luggage the hotel handled all of that. The room were very clean. The rooms had a small sink near the entry door which I'm not sure why, a small closet, small refrigerator which included snacks and drinks (at a cost of course). I did notice that the hotel did not furnish face towels. Only had 2 towels and a hand towel. I did ask the front desk if any face towels were available and the response was we don't supply those. We were able to pickup a few face towels at the dollar store. The pool was amazing (kiddy pool and adult pool). The loved the location of the hotel. Was not far from the airport about 10 to 15 mins. The hotel is not that close to a grocery store but its a 10min cab drive. There is a small convince store on the property but will be limited on some things. The hotel sits on the beach shore which I took a beach walk every morning. The hotel restaurant was EXCELLENT!!!. The food was outstanding and very cheap. Although we did not know that much Spanish the staff was very helpful to cater to us and using our phone translator came in handy. I would have never thought I would have visit Colombia but now that I have I can't wait until I go back. This was a truly a great vacation. Thank you GHL Hotel Relax Costa Azul for a wonderful time. I like to give thanks to all the hotel staff.

This is a very peaceful small hotel with a huge swimming pool and one for the kids as well. Nice little poolside resaurant. Ok beach. No white sand or clear water, but ok. No AC in the rooms but not a big deal. Nice balconies. Suspect the maid pilfered some pesos so make sure you put all the valuables in the safe when you leave. OTherwise good service, although they lost the reservation so if you make it on line you may want to confirm with the hotel. Very clean and overall a good experience with minor problems. Not much English spoken by hotel crew.

We arrived at the hotel only minutes from the airport. The accommodations were outstanding in the new building. The pools were great for our young son spent all day in the kids pool having fun and making new friends. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.

We stayed at the hotel 3 nights and have to say that we were quite disappointed. When we did the check in we had to wait for 40 minutes.
We asked to talk to the administration but we were not. It stands very clear that if you do check out late you have to pay an extra fee. We asked if there was a compensation for the late check in but it was not.

The room had a strong smell of humid and the cleaning was just a joke they did not do it until very late (afternoon). I believe they should improve the cleaning and maybe get their rate up.

The drinks were very expensive and they did not even have fresh fruit juices.

I would not recommend the hotel or travel back.

This is a difficult review to write because there are some very real discrepancies amongst the various areas being rated. Unit satisfaction is quite high; the room was clean and well appointed and the beds and linens were satisfactory albeit they‘re now well worn. The activities and amenities were also quite good; the two pools are huge and kept clean and well maintained except for one glaring issue which I’ll get to in a minute. The hotel is VERY isolated so there’s not much in the way of restaurants or shopping anywhere nearby but the hotel can’t be held to blame for this; it is what it is. And while the restaurant had a limited menu the food quality was quite high and the prices were reasonable given the circumstances.

The real downfall however was the level - or lack thereof - of anything remotely resembling customer service. My wife and I were the only two non-Colombians in the hotel for six days and we were made to feel like second class citizens. The way we were treated in comparison to other guests was glaringly obvious and while mildly amusing at first, quickly became frustrating and made us feel awkward, uncomfortable and unwelcome. We were in Colombia for four weeks and have traveled extensively through Mexico and Central America and this was the first time we have ever come across such behavior or have ever been treated in such a manner.

The other disappointment was the hotel is a day use facility on week-ends and the two pools were overrun with large family groups all day on Saturday and Sunday. I have to be careful in how I present this because it would be easy to interpret this as a prejudicial remark but this couldn’t be further from the truth. How the resort generates cash flow on week-ends is entirely at the hotels discretion. I just feel that this should be published so paying guests are made aware of this fact and understand that they most likely won’t have access to the pool facilities on weekends. There are also security concerns because during the day any number of people were able to wander at will from the beach to the hotel with no controls in place whatsoever. The other concern was cleanliness. The number of day-use customers obviously overwhelmed the cleaning staff and the washrooms and public areas quickly became dirty to the point of being a health hazard because of overflowing toilets etc.

My overall review is therefore completely unsatisfactory and I would urge anyone but a Colombian family to give this hotel a wide berth.

Couldn’t fault the hotel.

It’s about 15km from Santa Marta, roughly 35k COP taxi.

The location is right on the beach and has two lovely pools.

The restaurant is good too with very good prices. Around £5 for a main meal and dessert around £1.50.

The staff are all super friendly and the views from the hotel are of the ocean and the mountains on the other side.

Wouldn’t hesitate to return.

We were on a 17-day trip to Colombia and, unfortunately, only one night was at the Costa Azul. Like many of the other resort hotels in Rodadero, south of Santa Marta, Costa Azul had a great beach location. It was amazing to me how few people were actually on the beach and in the water; most were using the pools. I could see why, though, as the pools were targeted toward families with small children and had many fun activities such as an elephant water slide.

The hotel was basically next door to one of the landing strips for the airport so there were frequent planes coming over the water at very low altitude. The rooms were insulated enough that noise was not an issue.

We had lunch and dinner at the large thatch-roofed outdoor dining area. Service was great and food was excellent.

Massages were available onsite but I didn't have time to indulge; wish I could have. Wish we had a second day at this hotel.

We weren't disappointed with this hotel, the pool was amazing, stayed in the pool for hours and hours. They have a hot tub and a pool bar.
Access to the beach, which is somewhat private.

The rooms are big and have comfortable beds, also has a great looking bathroom. And a great view of the ocean.

Staff is super friendly, one staff member even let me use her cell phone to call a late tour agency.

The only negatives I can think of is there aren't many night events, the hotel is not near anything so nightly events by the pool would have been welcoming.

And although breakfast was amazing, the word breakfast "BUFFET" didn't materialize. When I asked for seconds on eggs or anything else I always received dirty looks and got a quarter of a spoon on my plate.

At the beginning was bad because we arrived at 13:00 and just at 16:30 we get the room. Then the room was ok, but there was a several things like Bugs, painting or broken edges of the walls that doesn't looks like adequately for a GHL brand, I mean if you saw as employee some things that must be fixed why don't you talk to your direct Chief in order to fix it? The bugs or the bizarre thing in the roof looks disgusting.

The breakfast was ok, wasn't exactly what I was expecting but was ok.

The beach is private, you're not going to find sellers every 10 seconds, there are sellers but are allowed to be there. For example the "Ceviche man" "El Didier" (label at a side of the polystyrene cool box ) is a great seller with a excellent product. The food in the beach wasn't good for the money (26.000) you are going to find probably something better in "El Rodadero" beach or travel until sasue mall and buy something better at the same price in crepes and waffles.

The location is great but far from everything, I mean near from the airport but far from everything else.

Something that I think is quite expensive ate the Taxis 22.000 - 7U$ from the hotel to whatever place. At the entrance of the hotel you are going to found a local bus station and for the same travel from hotel to Rodadero beach you are going to pay 1.700 - 0.60u$. So you're going to save some money if you try.

Sasue Mall is close to the hotel and there you're going to have ATM, restaurants, groceries store.

We stayed here for 1 night before going up to El Dorado in the mountains and then for three nights at the end of our trip.
While it is true that the reception area and main building is undergoing renovation we were in the modern second block. When we arrived the first time we left a bag and some laundry which was all delivered on hangers with no charge for ironing when we arrived back.
The pool and surrounding area was all really well kept and clean and we didn't notice any broken tiles, there is also a small pool near the new block. I do think they have acted on negative feedback in past reviews as thinsg seemed much better.

Food was pretty good and service was always friendly and with a smile despite our very limited spanish with a bit of google translate we communicated OK.

Only minor problems we had were
- on second check in where they couldn't give us a keycard (power was out due to building work) so we had to be accompanied to the rooom a couple of times
- and one day when when they ran out of burgers - no big deal.

Otherwise a good hotel that will be better when the work completes.
