Great service, good food and amazing place to stay and visit the surrounding areas or the Santa Marta historical city.
The menu is always the same, the buffet is good quality and you have multiple agencies for the different trips to the adjacent beaches.
The aquarium, Tafanga and mendihuaca (a little wavy) are recommended via Taxi Marino. Tayrona and Sierra Nevada are two Musts in this trip!

The hotel service was very good, the room was very comfortable, clean and with a view of the sea. The attention of the staff is excellent, always willing to collaborate, the girls at the reception are special, as are the restaurant and toilet staff, the pool is small, but it is very enjoyable because of the jet of water it has and the direct attention to the bar and the restaurant. Everyone was very good, thank you very much for making our stay more comfortable and pleasant.

This was a good adventure for us: my fiancee, my mother, brother and myself. We decided to travel around Colombia and we stopped in Santa Marta to enjoy the Colombian Caribbean,(stayed for 3 nights) I found this hotel at tripadvisor and made the reservation straight from the hotel website, I live in Houston TX, and I handled everything over the phone with the front desk and then by e-mails. We arrived past midnight, we were welcomed in a warm manner and we had a blast at this hotel!!!:
The positives: Great location right in front of the beach, (El Rodadero) near by shops, Restaurants, live music. Very Safe! Rooms very clean, spacious, with a refrigerator full of drinks and beverages for you to buy. Rooms included a safe box, We had a suite with a big master room and an additional room with two beds. The Bathroom was clean but a bit small. Parking included. The entire hotel resembles a bit of Greek architecture, our suite had a balcony to the beach. The Hotel has a lady who can wash and fold all your clothes for about $5-10 dollars. We gave her our dirty clothes in the morning, they were washed and folded by the end of the day... Breakfast was phenomenal, Colombian food is just amazing. The staff was very friendly.
Negatives: After midnight there were few girls looking for hook ups (clients) around the beach area... People in Santa Marta party late all night long and you can see or hear few drunks. However the police is around to control any disturbances.
Let me advise you that people in Colombia are very helpful and very nice. You can always bargain price on everything, but never expect refunds... That's the culture there.

When we arrived the hotel manager, Luz Martinez, downgraded our reservation. She rudely and inexplicably insisted that my passport had to have some kind of special immigration stamp in order to waive the taxes that apply only to Colombian nationals. Since my friend happened to have this special stamp on his passport, she did not want to change the reservation under my friend's name. Ms Martinez was determined to charge a higher rate than what Expedia quoted when we made the reservation. And on top of that, she wanted to charges additional national taxes. She was totally rude and provided the worst customer service imaginable. What a way to manage a tourist hotel! Be careful about staying in this hotel, if you don’t want surprises when you check in and out. By the way, Rodadero beach is the worst of Santa Marta.

This review is specifically directed at receptionist Luz Martinez who made our check-in process a highly unpleasant experience. While initiating our check-in with a friendly hotel staff, Luz Martinez entered the reception area and came up to the reception counter, and without acknowledging us, demanded the hotel member to change our room. We asked her, in Spanish, what had happened with our reservation and she ignored us and continued to demand the staff member to change the room. She then took over and asked for our passports. She asked for a special type of entry visa number or otherwise she would charge IVA. We are Americans and do not need visa to enter Colombia. She grabbed our passports and began to peruse through our passports with a random lady on the lobby. We demanded our passports, which she did not want to return to us. We then said we would not stay in the hotel and asked to cancel our reservation. To all guests considering a stay in this place, be mindful of this situation, your passports, and this woman.

Upon arrival, the appearance of the hotel was disappointing, even though I was not expecting much after reading the reviews and after seeing the pictures on tripadvisor. Below is a list of problems encountered during my unpleasant stay.

1. Decor
It's very dated and in desperate need of an upgrade. Curtains look old and there are moldy shower curtains. The walled air conditioning was extremely loud and after the second night, it gave up and broke. The outdated box TV was inaudible and the cable went off every so often. The drainage in the shower was clogged upon arrival and required maintenance to take a shower.
The bathroom is EXTREMELY small which forces you to perform acrobatics to properly use the shower and the toilet.

2. Food
Even though it's a free "buffet" there was an employee serving small portions. The quality of the food leaves much to be desired, especially the uncooked, soupy, scrambled eggs which contained eggshells. After our first breakfast, we opted to go next door for a more appetizing option.

3. Service
Since we had to contact front desk as soon as we got here, we experienced the unfriendly and inefficient service from the girl at front desk immediately. It seemed as if she was being bothered and unwilling to cooperate. The times when we needed the drain unclogged and the air conditioner checked out, it took at least thirty minutes for someone to show up.

Aside from the great view, this hotel has very little to offer and therefore I would recommend for anyone checking this hotel out, to RUN the other way. we personally would not stay in this hotel as it is even if it is offered for free.

Title says it all, during my stay 100 dollars was stolen from my room. I keep 200 dollars back up money, in a random book packed away in my bag. I had checked it on arrival. On checking out I noticed there was only 100 left. Got absolutely no help from reception when I reported it, more a 'hey what can I do response'. After several weeks in backpacker hostels this was our little 3 day treat. I had been used to carefully locking up my bag but as I was in what I thought was a nice hotel I got complacent and got robbed! In our 3 days our room was only cleaned once, so I'm confident that's when it was taken. We never received fresh towels, we joked they were avoiding us for some reason. The great view of the beach we were promised never materialised, instead we seen walls and tall trees. Worst hotel experience I've ever had.

We reached Santa Marta as the second part of our vacation, first visiting Cartagena. This Hotel was excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we checked out.

Location: Across from the beach in Rodadero where the party really starts from morning till night. We never had a complaint about the noise. You could hear the waves as soon as you wake up and while you go to bed. The party comes to an end around midnight when the police kick everyone out. If you're in bed before then, just close the patio door. BUT it is a vacation, go outside and enjoy the atmosphere, you can't beat beers and live vallenatos on the beach.

Hotel Service: Great, it was "Fiesta Del Mar" and the receptionist was kind enough to print out the festival itinerary for us to enjoy. We were also able to leave our bags safely at the front desk so we could check out and still enjoy our day until we had to leave for the airport.

Breakfast: All you could ask for, plus freshly squeezed juice.

Condition/Cleanliness: Very clean and in good condition. We barely spent time at the hotel, you should be outside on a vacation anyways! Using it mainly as a place to shower and sleep we found it perfect for us. AC worked perfectly and Hot water took about 30 secs to fully kick in, but lasted all shower long. Beds and pillows were conformable for sure!

Rooms are old and in need of some modernization. No phone lines available to make long distance calls, the bathroom is big enough for half a person. The only good thing is the view. You need to wear a wrist band during your stay in order to come in. To resume, not worth the price .

Like most travelers, I used the city of Santa Marta as a starting point for visiting Tayrona National Park. Since most day tours to the park start between 7:30 and 9, I wanted to get a good night's sleep prior to each day's excursion. That didn't happen. While the hotel is located on a prime spot in front of the Rodadero beach and offers beautiful views during the day, at night the beach becomes party central and, if you have a room in this hotel facing the beach, expect to get no sleep at all.

Beginning around 10 pm, locals flock to the beach and begin playing instruments and singing. This would be Ok if they stopped around midnight but this went on every night (weekdays included) until 4. Even after 4 am, there were periodic recurrences. One night, a car was nice enough to park in front of the hotel around 3:30 am with its outside speakers blasting salsa at full volume. When I brought this to the receptionist's attention, she shrugged her shoulders.

While some of the staff are great (the bellman and one of the male receptionists), the treatment by others is cold and sometimes downright rude. One particular receptionist who worked during the day spent all of the time I saw her on personal phone calls or playing games on her work computer. She never looked up to smile at guests or acknowledge them.

Breakfast buffet was nice, but again, the service team were not at all friendly or welcoming. Internet was steady for the most part but one afternoon, part of the city lost electricity so there was no TV or internet for a few hours.

All in all, unless I planned on returning to Santa Marta to spend my entire night on the beach partying, I'd stay far away from this hotel. I literally got no more than three hours (on and off) of sleep each night because of the awful noise outside. It is not close to be the four stars they advertise on their website, nor the four stars given to them by Booking.com. The only reason I gave it two circles instead of one, was due to the views the balconies of rooms facing the beach offered - during the day of course!
