6 of us (all adults) stayed in Santa Marta 1 night on our way back from staying at Finca Carpe Diem before returning to Cartagena and the Dreamer was wonderful. The ac was ice cold, showers had great water pressure, rooms had a safe, fan, tv and complimentary toiletries. They have an on-site bar, outdoor pool and restaurant. Most cocktails served at the bar were under $5 usd and they have a wide variety of food on the menu at their restaurant. They also have games and a pool table. Only staying one night we had so much fun we didn’t even leave the hostel that night. Staff was very accommodating and helpful with arranging our transportation back to Cartagena on the day we checked out.

Dreamer was a beautiful oasis for my one-night stay in Santa Marta coming from Tayrona before I flew out the next day. I'd been traveling non-stop the previous week from Cartagena to Minca to Tayrona, and I was ready for some rest. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious, and the pool area is a refreshing oasis with a light breeze, sun, hammocks, and free coffee + tea. I spent the afternoon sitting on the balcony with my laptop catching up on work and playing with the cat. It's also conveniently located within walking distance of Buenavista Commercial Center, right next to the bus to Tayrona/Palomino (or easy to hop in a taxi and get right on the highway). Highly recommend, and would definitely stay here again. Juan at the bar was a great host, answered questions, practiced Spanish with me, and made delicious drinks. Gracias, amigo!

I didn't actually stay here but myself and my girlfriend got dropped outside after a long minibus ride and were told to wait there for a transfer to Minca. After a while I went into tht hostel to see if that was normal. The two ladies at reception spoke English and said that there would be no transfer coming. They were so kind to me offering water coffee etc and said that they could call a taxi for me. Very nice to experience super helpful people after feeling like we'd been screwed over.

Also the hostel looked very cool and fun!

As a solo female traveler, i felt so safe, cared for and comfortable the entire time. I stayed at the 4 bed all female room, which was very spacious and clean, and the bed itself was very comfortable. The whole hostel was so incredibly beautiful, there were plenty of hammocks to lay in and soak up the sun, and great amenities offered like towels, drinking water and free coffee in the morning. The most notable thing about this place is the great service you get, the reception staff Gabriel and Constanza knew just about everything about anything, and they were a great resource for myself who was new to the town and needed help getting around. The host Maria was also the life of the party and really got the guests mingling and having fun :). Housekeeping also went the extra mile with me and allowed me to do my laundry last minute when i came back from a 4 day hike and had absolutely no clean clothes. Honestly the best service i've ever gotten anywhere. The one thing that made me nervous about booking here was that it was far from downtown Santa Marta, but even that didn't end up being a problem! I was in a very safe neighborhood, and getting to downtown is only 2.500 mil pesos and 15 minutes on the bus. Very much recommended hostel.

I had an awesome stay here. A very  peaceful oasis centered around a cool shaped pool with hammocks to relax .   Great location, especially if your headed to explore Parke Tayrona. The staff is very friendly, & the food was great with  lots of international options (really yummy pizza also). Fun social atmosphere and it was pretty entertaining  to watch Karaoke by other guests (the goo & the bad ; -D )

The dorm was clean and nice and the property is well maintained and tidy. Excellent wifi speed as well. Thanks guys!

This was such a great experience, I've traveled lots over the years, but this was my first stay in Columbia.

I would totally come back here anytime! I feel it's the staff is what really makes any place amazing!

Hernan the bartender is really friendly, educated me on the different Columbian beverages, he's also great at karaoke! Christina at the reception was really helpful and questions I had she was happy to help me. If I had a question or a problem she was always there to help with a big smile that I will never forget! Maria is also amazing she took us on a sunset tour in town, she organized a fun Karaoke night and on the weekend she took us out for pub night it was so much fun and I feel so safe!

Good energy, happy vibes, people are nice, food is good the place is clean... in beauty Columbia what more do you want?

The hostel is nice and clean. It's a cool layout with everything in the courtyard ie tables chairs pool bar pooltable etc. The staff are what make this place though. Always friendly and will chat to you about anything. Special thanks to Carlos, Miguel, Jesús & Juan for making the time there special. The layout and the friendly staff makes it super easy to meet people who are all chilling in the same place at night, and the staff will introduce you. Overall great stay :)

This is easily the best hostel I've ever stayed in! They have everything one could ask for! Relaxing pool, complete kitchen, a restaurant for those who don't like to cook, places to work, a bar to get wasted, and good vibe guests! The staff were all super friendly, the room big, comfortable, huge locker (here you can see it was really thought by a backpacker), perfectly tuned AC, clean bathroom, great shower.

The location is something that one has to have in mind. Is awesome for those who want to go to Tayrona, Minca, Palomino, or other day trips and also very close to a supermarket and a mall (with all ATMs one needs), and it's safe. But it's far from the city center, but it takes like 30 minutes by bus (that costs just 2.000 pesos).

I definitely recommend it!

My best friend and I have been backpacking all over South America and Dreamer takes it to a new level. The property design, the staff, food is all top notch. Recommend to any solo backpacker looking to make new friends, tons of hostel activities and off-site nature stuff to do.

It's not advisable to only do a half day trip. It takes approx 45 min to 1 hour from Dreamers to the main front gate of Tayrona, from there, you get a colectivo for another 15 mins to where you start the treks from. All the good beaches are at least 1 hour walk from where you get dropped. The lines at the front gate will take at least 20 mins and can be up to an hour depending on the time of year you're travelling so a half day trip would be impossible or not worth it. My suggestion is to check out of the hostel and take an overnight bag. Go early in the morning and you will be at Cabo San Juan before lunch. This way you're pretty much guaranteed an hammock or one of the two private cabanas on the nicest beach in Colombia. The next morning you can trek out of the park back to the main gate and be back at the hostel by mid afternoon.

Ya, Gina makes a good point. I don't think there would be a way for the hostel to eliminate mosquitos since it is an open concept hostel (i.e. it is pretty much outside/there is no roof on the common area). If you are more cautious at dusk, wear clothing that covers most of your skin, wear light-coloured clothing, eat citrus fruits, and use bug stray you should be ok. (Tips from a travel medical clinic I visited).
