We stayed here during carnival and it wasn’t walking distance to many things but taxis are very inexpensive. The hotel itself has a superb breakfast which is included with the stay. The food at the hotel itself wasn’t bad and the have a Dominos Pizza and chicken spot off the lobby area. There’s also a market area, pharmacy and bank off the lobby area as well.

I've been to this hotel 2 or 3 times already, the front desk staff is great, the rooms are good, not excellent but good, however, I had a bad experience that makes me warn future guests in the hotel.
In one of my visits, I forgot a pant hanging in the closet, I realised that the same day, few hours later, when I got to Miami.
Immediately I sent an email, giving the room information, time I left the hotel and what it was, just a plain black pant with the belt still on it. The hotel never acknowledged my email. I went back exactly a week later, when I checked in I asked the ladies in the front desk about it, I showed them the email I sent and I was told to wait until they checked about it, finally, the day I left the hotel I was told that nothing was found in the room and, maybe, I took it back to Miami with me.
I don't think this should be the proper attitude from a hotel to a guest complaint.
I will go back to the hotel but, next time I will lock all my bags, check and recheck closets, drawers, everywhere before I check out because I know that, whatever is left in the room will be lost forever, and that is sad to say or think.
HR should choose their staff better, remember, one bad apple spoils the others!
Forgetting that, breakfast and the staff up in the restaurant is just great!

I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Excellent service from each and every member of the hotel staff. The rooms are fairly spacious and are being kept spotless. The breakfast buffet is the best I have enjoyed in literally years and it is probably the one feature which makes this good hotel stand out even more. If there is one thing that deserves improvement, it would be the gym, some update in the form of new (cardio)machines would be appreciated, but that is my point of view. Would I chose this hotel again? In a heartbeat!

This is my second time is Barranquilla and I regret choosing this hotel. My only positive experience was the bellman and front desk clerk that received me when I arrived. I came in around 11pm and was starving. They found a burger place that was open for me and the food was really good. I was exhausted so the ordered the food and brought it up to my room. The room did not seem clean and when I woke up in the morning there was a old blood stain on my sheets. It was a small stain however I was still disgusted. I immediately went downstairs and showed the morning staff and advised them my sheets needed to be changed immediately. The front desk clerk was very dismissive and when I returned, the sheets were not changed. I checked out early and they did not offer to refund the reminding days and said customer service would contact me. To date, no one’s has reached out. I do not recommend this hotel and I would not come back.

If i can save one person from booking this hotel, i will have earned my wings. Smelly cramped rooms, NO hot water, rude staff, and the best part is they claim to be 5 stars 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😐😐 i left 6 days before the end of my stay because of strange people at my doors, and strange calls to me room. No insulation so you could hear cars like they were in your room. Rude restaurant staff, and over all this hotel could use a total makeover . Stay at the Crowne Plaza. That's where I went and it's was AWESOME

We only stayed one night but the staff did EVERYTHING to make it great. When we checked in I explained we would be leaving at 5am and therefor would miss breakfast and therefor not have my much needed coffee. They went into action and had a coffee machine delivered to my room and had coffee ready. GREAT service! good location and very comfortable room. Gracias por todos

I have visited Colombia at least 7 times. I have stayed at various hotels. My experience at the Sonesta Hotel was the worst. I will NOT stay at this hotel again for many reasons:
1. Mold in the ventilation system - there is a very strong odor of Mold in the hallways. There was a dehumidifier at one end of the hallway and an open window at the other end of the hallway but the very strong odor of Mold still exists. This is a dangerous health issue for employees and guests.
2. Hallway Carpet - appears old and dirty. Needs to be replaced.
3. Windows Not Soundproof - could hear noise all night.
4. Bed uncomfortable - mattress is very firm. Felt like sleeping on ironing board.
5. Location not good - no restaurants or bars within walking distance.
6. Money Exchange rip off - your hotel recommended Mister Dollar Money Exchange. I went to Mister Dollar to exchanges US Dollars for Pesos. I was given Counterfeit 50,0000 pesos.
7. Security Overkill: I was followed in the hotel and constantly starred at by security guys in the hotel lobby. I had two guests visit me at 11:00 am to spend time at the pool on the 13th Floor. Even after showing their ID, we were followed by Hotel Security to the pool on the 13th Floor. Hotel Security returned at least 3 times observing me and my guests. We felt very uncomfortable and not welcomed. On another occasion, I had one of the same guests visit me on Sunday morning at about 10:00 am for breakfast. I went outside to meet her and pay for the taxi. Hotel Security guy came running behind me and stood behind me as I opened the taxi cab door for my guest. We felt very uncomfortable and not welcome. This was embarrassing and totally unnecessary.
8. Very Poor at the Pool: we ordered drinks and it took waiter/waitress at least 30 to 45 minutes to bring the drinks. We had to ask 3 times before they finally brought the drinks. There were only 2 other guests present so it was not busy, just horrible service.
9. Taxi Drivers Dishonest - the majority of the taxi drivers working at the hotel were Dishonest and tried to scam me for more money every chance they got. I called the hotel in advance to arrange for pick up at the airport. When I arrived at the hotel, I asked the driver the cost for the pickup. He said 35,000 pesos and so I paid him 35,000 pesos. Once I checked out of the hotel, I was billed again 35,000 for the airport pickup. I was told the taxi driver should NOT have charge me because the hotel had arranged the pickup. The hotel then called the driver to lobby to question him about the situation. The driver admitted to charging me 35,000 pesos but said he thought I was giving him a tip. Another taxi driver at the hotel was told I needed a ride to the Western Union. I even showed the taxi driver the address on my cell phone. However, the taxi drove to a gambios. I again showed the taxi driver the address of the Western Union. He then drove around in circles pretending not to know how to get to the Western Union. I then instructed the taxi driver to take me to the Buenavista Mall because I knew there was a Western Union inside the mall. Another taxi driver at the hotel was told I needed a ride to the Frogg Club. This is a well known club in Barranquilla. Instead of driving to the Frogg Club, the driver drove to the Bourbon Street Bar. I told the driver this was wrong place. The driver then proceeded to drive in circles pretending to not know where the Frogg Club was located at. I then had to instruct the the driver 3 times to get him to take me back to the Sonesta Hotel. Again, the majority of the taxi drivers working at this hotel are Dishonest and looking to scam guests for more money especially foreigners.
10: Positives: one young lady working at the Front Desk spoke very good English and she was very helpful and very professional. She made me feel welcome and she treated me with dignity and respect. They should have her train the rest of their hotel staff. Also, the Housekeeper that cleaned my room did an Excellent Job every day.

Barranquilla in its environment maintains an 80% sensation of humidity and that is usually concentrated in closed spaces, reasons why we implemented action plans such as dehumidifiers to minimize the impact of our environment. We are sorry the comfort of our beds has not exceeded your expectations and it is a fact that the location of the hotel is in a residential sector without night life. It is a shame that the recommendation for the currency exchange has resulted in a negative observation from you and it is very important to make the correction to avoid a similar situation in the future. The recommendations that we received at security level, are taken to give our guests security and the controls established for guest visits are necessary and really important to have a record of those who enter as visitors and always with the noble purpose of watching over yours safety and our intention was not to make you feel uncomfortable, for which we want to offer our apologies. It is important and very valuable your feedback of the service of taxi drivers because they are part of the image of professional service that we always want to project so we will take the immediate actions to not have similar situations in the future and guarantee a warm and friendly service as the one you mentioned from our front desk and housekeeping staff. The lobby is nice. Once u get on the elevator and head up to your room is all ok untill you get out and the smell of hallway is horrible. The room also smells. But since i was only staying two nights i worked thru it. But the worst part was the bed bugs. For a Hotel with four stars and there location which is considered to be the North of Barranquilla the rich side of barrabquilla it is shameful for they to have this problem. Would never stay here again.

Had a good stay for work in the Sonesta Barranquilla. The check-in process was incredibly long, and multiple staff needed to consult on a single reservation (same way for others in line). Other than that, everything was good at the hotel. The room decor might be a little dated but seemed to be of good quality. Breakfast was free, and the selection/quality of this breakfast far exceeds the typical free breakfasts in US hotels. Staff was friendly, and checking out was smooth.

You can't make this stuff up. At check in the staff member insinuated I was with an escort when it was a friend waiting for me to check in to go to dinner, she quizzed us about who was staying in the room -none of your F business that's who!! Then in the morning at 6:30 AM I am woken by this horrendous music I try to find out where it's coming from there's an Easter celebration outside the hotel but not there. I track it to a service room close to my room and there's this horrid music blaring from the maintenance staff. I reported to the front desk and was told sometimes they play music in the hotel. Really I'm sure your guests appreciate that in the afternoon not 6-7AM. So I drag myself somewhere to get pace and quiet the breakfast room, sit in the corner to do some work and have a coffee. It fills 30 mens later with families and the manager tells me he needs the table. I will never never stay in this hotel or one of these American chain hotels again, I should have gone with my gut and stayed in a local hotel where they care about your experience!! The lady serving me coffee Maria Jose was very sweet - they should clone her and put her at every station in the hotel!!
