Placed in the medieval heart of Brasov, Vila Katharina 4* is an architectural jewel of the 19th century, finely restored to the smallest details of the original indoor painting and brought back to life in the form of a boutique hotel. Once you get here, you will enjoy the noble air of the 3 rooms, furnished in Biedermeier and Art Deco style and you will go back in time, through the atmosphere of an elegant and sophisticated house from the past, yet touched by the comfort of the present.

What an amazing stay we had. The rooms were beautiful and right near all the great restaurants and nightlife of Brasov. The staff was warm and treated us so well. I would highly recommend this wonderful place to everyone and will come back soon.

Room Tip: Having a parking space outside hotel was a big plus as parking is very difficult around town.

We spent three nights at Vila Katharina in September. Very nice hotel. Centrally located for walking in the city center. Our room had a king bed and was both spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was made to order from selections made the day before -- nice choice of omelets / continental breakfast options. Not to be underestimated is a parking spot in front of the hotel. You pay for parking, however, this is a convenience that should not be under-estimated. Ana the manager of the hotel provided excellent service. Hotel arranged for laundry service during our stay. Overall an excellent experience.

I really loved this hotel. The staff were friendly and offered us a small drink of local produce on arrival. Our room Onyx was just gorgeous. Really interesting and full of character. Loved the huge doors into the bathroom and we had a bath in the morning, very relaxing. I wish we could have stayed longer! There is shower gel, soap, shampoo in the room, no conditioner (I had my own). Great location into the town. Note, no lift. We choose breakfast the night before to have in the garden which was lovely. Note there are only two tables and if you get lucky like us you will be alone but if not you may have people next to you smoking. I would recommend staying here. Also the jewellery shop attached is worth a look lots of pieces of interest.

The fairly bland façade to this hotel gives you no clue as to what is inside once you walk through the door. A very small boutique hotel that is beautifully furnished and has a heap of atmosphere. Our room was just gorgeous and the attention to detail was impressive. Our hostess very welcoming and obliging. The hotel is well situated near the old town. Note there is no lift.

We were very happy with our choice to stay at the 3-rooms Vila Katharina. Instead of staying at a chain hotel with no atmosphere, this really has the old house feel with beautiful decoration. We had the Onyx Superior room and it was wonderful. Nicely decorated and bright with lots of windows. They reserved a parking spot for us right in front of the pension. We also bought a bottle of the drink they offered us when we arrived as it was so good. Beautiful stay

Liked the property in spite of the off-beat negatives. Has an excellent location within the Old Town Center & easy walking throughout the area. If navigating stairs is an issue to consider this is NOT your property (see photo). The entrance appearance was a definite negative in that it looked like the property was either under renovation or was closed. Partially painted, no plants or absolutely anything inviting to guests. However, once you step into the tiny lobby you realize you are in a special place, even though the front part of the Lobby area is actually a retail jewelry store that opens to the street. There is a VERY SMALL library area with a sofa & chair that offers seating for 3 persons, but the 2 nights we were there it was kept dark with no lights & was definitely NOT inviting, though it could have been. The adjoining breakfast room is far more pleasant with 4 small round tables & a beautiful sideboard chest. However, the breakfast rooms underscores that the property management is more interested in pomp & pretense than factual performance. Each of the 4 tables were so absolutely cluttered with glasses, plates, serving dishes, water & juice bottles etc. etc. etc. that you had to move, shuffle & remove items in order to have your coffee served, while the beautiful sideboard chest sitting only feet away sat empty & totally unused. Attached are photos of the breakfast menu which is $8 per person, along with an invitation to enjoy tea or a whiskey in the evening. However, the 2 evenings I went down to enjoy a whiskey I was met by a very pleasant lady who apparently works in the jewelry store, but helps out in the hotel, after she saw me standing in the dark room looking around to turn a light on in the library area. She had absolutely no idea what I was talking about regarding the whiskey & when I showed her the information found in the room it was obvious that she had never seen it before. We selected the Traditional Transylvania Breakfast that includes "cold cuts, fresh vegetables & peasant bread". I have no doubt we received the breakfast ordered but it included several slices of some type of air-dried meat, along with 2 small pieces of a spiced sausage, 1 round slice of a cured sausage & 2 chunks of cold, fried pork fat, along with a tiny serving of a type of tapenade (?) & a larger bowl of sliced red bell pepper rings. Not exactly what was expected, but we can roll with it. The room was furnished exactly as pictured on the website with beautiful antique furnishings & window coverings & a large bath with separate tub & shower. Housekeeping was also excellent so overall it was a pleasant, if somewhat confusing stay. I would suggest that management should focus more on the guest experience & needs & less on "pretense".

We stayed in Vila Katharina for 4 nights when we visited Braşov in February 2023. I can honestly say it was utter perfection. Beautifully quaint and luxuriously decorated throughout, we stayed in the Onix suite which blew our minds. High quality antique wood dressers, enormous bed, stand alone bathtub for soaking in after a long day of exploring and all toiletries provided. Better still, the staff in this hotel are some of the kindest, accommodating and helpful I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Despite our fairly lacklustre attempts at communicating in Romanian, the staff spoke wonderful English and were endlessly tolerant of us. The breakfasts each morning were delicious and fresh, perfect for starting out on a day of activities, which are only a stone’s throw away given the excellent location of this hotel. Please consider trying the Katharina Breakfast of Confit duck, caramelised onions, a fresh fruit compote with honey sweetened yoghurt and a delightful glass of dry prosecco. It was the highlight even though I tried this for the first time on the morning we had to leave! I regret to say I did not catch the name of the sweet girl who tended to us (24 hours per day!!!) for the duration of our stay, but if she does see this, (yes, You, with the pretty blue hair!) you helped to make our visit to Romania one of the most comfortable and pleasant experiences we have ever had on our travels. We will remember you for a long time. More importantly, we hope to visit you again soon! 💕 🇷🇴

Katharina was the mistress of Vlad the Impaler, she had 5 children with him. This place is very cozy and you can also plan a baby here. not too many bedrooms and a great alternative to a dry hotel room. breakfast is an interesting experience because you will feel like a nobleman from a century ago. Also in the bathroom you can feel a vintage experience because the shower pressure is so low

As you make your way to the historic part of Brasow, you get to Vila Katharina quickly. (We had asked for parking as we were driving and they had blocked space in front of the property.). We were greeted and served a drink at arrival and asked for preferred time and location to have our breakfast. This location is very close the the historic areas with all the restaurants, sight and shops. Did I mention the staff was great.

Romania was our final stop on our European tour for our honeymoon/first anniversary. We stayed three nights in Brasov. Our stay at the Vila Katharina was one of the highlights of our trip to Brasov. Most hotels are just a staging ground for you excursions but VK was part of the experience. The staff were very prompt and helpful when we asked for transportation advice as we arrived in Romania. They greeted us with an authentic Romanian drink but brought us quickly to our room. Most of the five star reviews of VK will say the same: The hotel lacks none of the common amenities of a more commercial hotel. Service is daily and the wifi is good. The room is beautiful, large, and unique. Its character extends beyond a comfortable or classic decor and verges on art. It feels like it belongs to another era, and you will too when you stay here. It is not close to the city center, as other reviews describe, but IN the city center. While it is a short walk to the square, VK is in Old Brasov, within the historic city walls and walking anywhere, especially to the square, is like strolling through a medieval city. A few of my particular favorites included: The windows have blackout drapes but also open all the way to allow fresh air. This lets us bask in the daylight and cool breezes but also sleep well at night. The welcome book is far more comprehensive than most I've seen. It is a full guidebook to Brasov and Transylvania. A guest just arriving with no plans could book their entire vacation from the room. While the hotel provides coffee and tea, I often prefer a second cup and walked to coffee shops in the square each morning. I recommend this. The walk is short but stunning and, if you are a good city explorer, you'll find the shortcut behind the Black Church, a haunting and beautiful walk. The room's small coffee table is adorned with a complimentary bottle of mineral water and two elegant wine glasses on a silver tray (don't worry, it's only for decoration, we encountered no Vampires or Werewolves). Drink the water before you leave for the day, and return with a bottle of Transylvanian wine, there are some quality vintages in Brasov. Set the wine on the tray when you return for the night and make the room your final lounge of the evening. Brasov has nice hotels. Some luxury hotels even cost less than VK. But for a few days, we felt like we were part of the Transylvanian countryside. I would send any friends or family to this hotel.
