Romania was our final stop on our European tour for our honeymoon/first anniversary. We stayed three nights in Brasov. Our stay at the Vila Katharina was one of the highlights of our trip to Brasov. Most hotels are just a staging ground for you excursions but VK was part of the experience. The staff were very prompt and helpful when we asked for transportation advice as we arrived in Romania. They greeted us with an authentic Romanian drink but brought us quickly to our room. Most of the five star reviews of VK will say the same: The hotel lacks none of the common amenities of a more commercial hotel. Service is daily and the wifi is good. The room is beautiful, large, and unique. Its character extends beyond a comfortable or classic decor and verges on art. It feels like it belongs to another era, and you will too when you stay here. It is not close to the city center, as other reviews describe, but IN the city center. While it is a short walk to the square, VK is in Old Brasov, within the historic city walls and walking anywhere, especially to the square, is like strolling through a medieval city. A few of my particular favorites included: The windows have blackout drapes but also open all the way to allow fresh air. This lets us bask in the daylight and cool breezes but also sleep well at night. The welcome book is far more comprehensive than most I've seen. It is a full guidebook to Brasov and Transylvania. A guest just arriving with no plans could book their entire vacation from the room. While the hotel provides coffee and tea, I often prefer a second cup and walked to coffee shops in the square each morning. I recommend this. The walk is short but stunning and, if you are a good city explorer, you'll find the shortcut behind the Black Church, a haunting and beautiful walk. The room's small coffee table is adorned with a complimentary bottle of mineral water and two elegant wine glasses on a silver tray (don't worry, it's only for decoration, we encountered no Vampires or Werewolves). Drink the water before you leave for the day, and return with a bottle of Transylvanian wine, there are some quality vintages in Brasov. Set the wine on the tray when you return for the night and make the room your final lounge of the evening. Brasov has nice hotels. Some luxury hotels even cost less than VK. But for a few days, we felt like we were part of the Transylvanian countryside. I would send any friends or family to this hotel.…
Vila Katharina epitomises the true meaning of boutique with just 3 super chic rooms. They are uniquely & exquisitely decorated, with fine period furnishings, myriad special touches, & great attention to detail. Large, comfy beds with high end pillows & linens. The bathroom in my room, Safir, was especially stunning with its cast iron tub & arty wall paintings. Breakfast, ordered the night before, offers a choice of English, French Russian or Transylvanian cuisine. All perfectly nice, though I was surprised the orange juice wasn’t freshly squeezed. Breakfast is served either in-room or in a tiny, quaint & characterful dining room. There is a little library area adjacent where you can take a drink. The location is great for being in the heart of town. The hotel frontage is discreet, just the beautiful Vila Katharina sign indicates it’s presence. Downsides…. there are a few steps to negotiate to rooms, & the church bells may bother light sleepers. Overall though, a wonderful stay.…
Gorgeous room with very tasteful decor y little delightful details everywhere. Delicious breakfast with a la carte service, impeccably presented in a beautiful little room with luxurious china and silverware. Great location, within walking distance of the main sights and attractions in Brasov. Warm, friendly and smiling staff make the stay enjoyable and are ready to help in every way they can. The atmosphere at Vila Katharina was so lovely that I even canceled one of the tours I had booked previously, just so that I could sleep in and enjoy this little gem of a hotel more.
We ended up not being able to travel to Brasov due to COVID-19 related issues. The hotel was so accommodating and helpful - it just proves that their customer service is as good as they claim. We look forward to staying here in the future.
The staff went above and beyond to ensure our trip was the best! They helped with recommendations and scheduling tours for us. The room was amazing with the most luxurious bathtub, very relaxing after long days of sightseeing. As wonderful as our trip was, the hotel was the best part. They made our 10 year anniversary so wonderful
I don't even have the words to express how wonderful this place is!!! I mean, I always wanted to stay here: it looked divine on Booking.com, TripAdvisor and on their Facebook page! But, it super-exceeded my expectations once I got there! I felt I was in a fairy-tale!! And not just the room: the stuff was amazing (they gave me a little 'afinata', as a welcoming drink), the breakfast was delicious (all is from local producers from around the area); all the experience was so wonderful and above that! It simply felt like you could stay in there, in the room, all day long! I had such a positive and recharging vibe from it that I went into their jewelry shop and found 3 cool pairs of earrings (prices are super good for the high quality they offer). I am so keeping this spot bookmarked for my next trips to Brasov!…
The room was absolutely stunning with historic charm. Enjoyed the location also as it is an easy walk to restaurants and sites. Parking available on street outside hotel. Loved the breakfast room also. Would stay again.

We came to Brasov for my birthday with no intend to stay overnight, but in the last minute we decided to stay one night after we saw how beautiful this vila is. Very cosy, very charming! We loved it! Took the apartment and it was perfect! ❤ Delicious afinata and breakfast.
We always look for smaller hotels....Vila Katharina has only 3 rooms! The room was lovely, large and very comfortable. We had a wonder breakfast for only 7.50 euro per person. The staff was lovely. The location is really good. We would definitely stay there again.
