Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We were a family of 4 (children 9 and 12) and stayed in a Comfort room in late August. The hotel had a nice balance of guests - some families, couples, groups. It felt very relaxed and welcoming. The lobby is on the 10th floor and is ice cold with the A/C, with spectacular views over the sea and big comfy couches. There is also a bar, but it's a more chill cocktail place and not somewhere I'd bring kids.
Pros
Room - Big, well equipped and comfortable for 4. Nicely lit. Balcony is on the small side (just 2 chairs and a table)
Beds - very comfortable, and the sofabed for the kids was also really large and comfortable and made up for singles so the kids didn't share blankets (the doubles are also, which was kind of odd)
Pool - Didn't use the spa pool but the outdoor pool was quiet, unheated and had a mix of kids and adults using it. Possible to get a lounger too - though it was not that easy!
Dining - Breakfast was very good, ate in restaurant for lunch and it was very good, not insanly expensive. The setting over the bay is nice.
Cons
It's a 10-15 min spin in a taxi/Uber to Dubrovnik. Uber is about the same as the bus for 4 (50-60kn) so we used that.
Lapad Bay was my least favourite beach in Croatia - it's busy and the water was a bit unclean for me (partly becuse it's sandy, partly plastic rubbish floating in it). More a beach to sunbath and drink on.

When we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the staff whom were very friendly and helpful, our room was not ready until 2pm so
they kindly looked after our bags. We ventured down to the pool, which was busy so we went down to the beach where the hotel have an allocated area for sun beds which there were plenty of. For the rest of our holiday we did have to get up early in order to secure a sun bed otherwise you would not get one! The hotel definitely need to invest in more! The pool area is clean and the bar makes some amazing cocktails.. happy hour is between 3-5 and then 5-7 in the roof top zenith bar, which has amazing views of the lapad bay and the Adriatic Sea! We had superior sea view room with balcony which was clean, modern and had the most comfortable bed! They give you a dressing gown and slippers which is a lovely touch and also bring you a chocolate each night! The views from the balcony were stunning! The higher the room the better! The hotel is in a great location, if you step out of the hotel on floor 0 and turn left, there is a promenade of restaurants and bars and the beach is literally in front of the hotel. We got a taxi into old town a few times… definitely use your Uber app to get a taxi rather than the hotel ordering one as it’s half the price!
Breakfast at the hotel is fresh and I really enjoyed the ham omelettes and crispy bacon! The hostess on entering breakfast is the most friendly and lovely lady! I didn’t get her name but I hope the hotel know how lucky they are to have her as she is a credit to you guys! We would definitely return to Dubrovnik and would definitely recommend this hotel! Also we didn’t get to say goodbye to our friends Alastair and Sheila 🏴 so if you are reading this… we hope you had a great trip! 😍 best wishes Michelle & Ashley!

South Woodham Ferrers, United Kingdom214 contributions147 helpful votesThis hotel is outside of Dubrovnik but its an easy and quick journey in. The hotel clings to the bay in Lapad giving beautifully scenic views across the beach and out to sea. We stayed across Christmas/New Year week and couldn't have been better looked after.
The hotel itself is clean and modern and as soon as you walk into the reception area you can't help but take in the panoramic views. Reception, business, conference area and bar are all located at the top of the hotel with the rooms underneath going down 10 floors to the ground where there is a pool, inside pool, spa and restaurant.
Leaving the hotel at ground level gives you access straight to the beach and the facilities of 'Sunset Bay'... there are plenty of restaurants and bars in an easy walk as well as supermarkets. The bus is at the end of the pedestrian area and the no.6 will get you to the old town. Tickets are sold at the kiosk by the bus stop or on board and were 12kns per trip. The ride to the gate of the old town is less than 10 minutes.
The hotel facilities were good, only slight down side was lack of storage in the room. We were only visiting for 5 nights but if you are on a 2 week holiday it may be a bit different. Bathroom was nice but shower pressure a bit light.
We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and it was OK, but plenty of options outside. Breakfast was a little limited however enough to get us going for the day. Spa is small but has a good variety of treatments.
We would definitely stay again and highly recommend. Croatia generally was lovely and I'd recommend getting a hire car and seeing the sights. We ventured as far as Korcula and to Montenegro and Kotor Bay.

Beautiful hotel overlooking Sunny Beach.
Spotlessly clean, pleasant and friendly staff.
Booked half board and not disappointed, buffet breakfast - fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, cooked breakfast omelettes and pastries available. evening meal with good variety, fish, ribs, steak pasta etc.
Staff serve the food due to covid but always give as much as you want.
The rooftop bar has stunning views and happy hour is 5-7pm.
The beach is literally outside the hotel, a pebble beach so recommend taking/buying beach shoes, we paid 8 kuna and well worth the price. There are areas with blue towels that are reserved for the hotel, just need to give your room number, if you want extra towels just askas it was no problem. The sea is warm and there are jet skis and paddle boards available for hire.
The hotel pool is quite small and the sun beds fill up quickly so we only went once.
Outside the hotel there is a strip of bars and restaurants, some with happy hour. Large beer is around 25/30 kuna wine 30/40 kuna a glass and cocktails range from 40 kuna upwards.
At the top of the strip turn right and the bus stop takes you into the old town, a kiosk sells tickets prior to boarding, 12 kuna each way but beware the bus was packed to overflowing. Takes around 20minutes. Advise to go early as the old town gets really busy, also lots of steps and really hot if walking the walls at peak time.
There is a Tommy supermarket about 10mins from the hotel, up the strip, turn right after the tennis courts and it’s at the top of the road.
We took our own Lateral flow tests but they can be done at the local hospital.
All in all a perfect holiday in the sun, would definitely recommend!!

On our arrival to the hotel and entering into reception the first impression just in one word was ( WOO). We was greeted by the Reception Staff who introduced themselves to us. Looking around the reception and the rest area it was very modern and chic with decor. The aroma off the hotel smelt divine.
We found all department staff very pleasant and friendly and always helpful to assist you.
We was located on the 6th floor on the side of the hotel. The room was kept to a very high standard in cleanliness, fresh towels left were daily and complementary toiletties when we used them.
Breakfast in the morning was a good range off choice off hot and cold varieties you could choose from.
Each night the Housekeeping team came just to check your room and always left some small complementary chocolates (I wished there was more left) they were very tasteful. The mini bar was available but this was not free, but still the drinks were at a reasonable price. There is a safe in the room and also coffee and tea facilities, these was topped up daily.
In over all we have enjoyed our stay to which Hotel Kompas has made our holiday one off the best so far.Thank you for making our stay very enjoyable.

My family and me stayed at Hotel Kompas 5 days around new years eve and enjoyed it a lot! Our room hat a great view overlooking the bay, what a scenery!
Altough rather small, the room was really tidy and modern equipped.
Service is outstanding- on arrival you get greeted by staff in front of the hotel, luggage is being transportet to your room, your car get's parked. Reception is very friendly and helpful.
Nearby there is a bus stop, a drive to old town dubrovnik takes about 15 minutes.
The hotel is located at a wonderful promenade where you can walk the coastline of the bay.
The only think that doesn't fit the picture is the restaurant. There seems to be a different management in charge. The first eveneing we choosed the dinner buffet- big mistake. Food was tasteless, dry, presentation was uninspired.
Buffet for breakfast was better but still not great, fruits where not fresh for example (see picture). But the cappuccino was really good (you had to ask for it).
Great place to stay, but eat somewhere else.

I stayed at the Hotel for 7 days & it was so lovely. It is well maintained, spotlessly clean, in a great location & the staff were friendly & polite. We had booked a room with a view & what an amazing view it was.
There was more than enough choice for breakfast (cereals, fruit, cooked breakfast, toast).
The pool area was cleaned every morning, there is never a problem getting beds as none are ever reserved & towels are provided. The hotel is close to the Beach with its own area so you won’t be charged for using the beds.
The hotel is very close to a variety of restaurants so you will be spoilt for choice & is close to the bus stop to take you into the old city. You can get tickets for bus once your on it but it would be easier to get a return from the kiosk right by the bus stop
I highly recommend this hotel & wouldn’t hesitate to book it again

Fantastic location, really close to the pebbly beach front, the main strip in Lapad where there is a good selection of restaurants and bars and also about a 10 minute walk to the number 6 bus stop which takes you to the old town and the city walls in around 15 minutes for about 12 kuna (approx £1.50 one way) The hotel is lovely and clean and decorated in a modern neutral colour scheme. The house keeping lady attended everyday to clean and tidy the rooms and change the towels as required and was very polite and friendly. In the evening the guest were provided with a couple of chocolates which I though was a really nice touch, the evening entertainment consisted of live singing in the sphere lounge area of the ground floor. The hotel itself is upside down with the reception being on the 10th floor, we were in what was dubbed the James Bond room 1007 on the 10th floor with stunning views across the bay. On our arrival we were checked in by Petar and Tomislav, both incredible members of staff in reception who honestly could not do enough for you and to tell you proudly about their gorgeous country and all the wonderful sights to see. The nearest section of the beach is run by sunset beach and from approx lunchtime onwards you are charged 120 kuna/ bed for the use of the sun beds. A little further up past the slide is the hotel Kompas beach which allows free use of the sun beds and towels all day for its guests. The is a good selection of water sports available nearby which includes kayaking, paddle boarding, jet skiing and a giant inflatable circuit on the sea. There is a spa, indoor pool, outdoor pool, pool bar and sun beds etc located on the 1st floor. Breakfast is nice with a selection of hot food, cold food like meats, cheese and salads and pastries, tea and coffees etc. We did the Kravice waterfall and Mostar (Bosnia) trip, the cable cars in the old town and the ferry trip to Lokrum island, all highly recommended and booked externally. Just a final note Croatia is not cheap, but definitely worth a visit!

We stayed for 3 nights and it was lovely. Superior double with sea view gave us a great view of Sunset Beach from our balcony.
The room was small by our standards but was clean and had a comfortable bed. The bathroom, except for the hairdryer, was adequate. The front desk was not the friendliest but the bar tenders were. The breakfast buffet was staffed by restaurant personnel and felt quite sanitary. The food was so-so. The hotel pool area is great for sunning and their are several bars and restaurants within walking distance. Not a bad choice.

Ostensibly there’s nothing wrong with the hotel (prime location on the water in Lapad, provided you’re comfortable taking a taxi or bus to Old Town). When you first walk in, views are absolutely stunning. Our room was on the fifth floor with a view of the pool and the bay beyond it. Very nice. We were disappointed to discover two twin beds (I will note this is the hotel’s standard, however I had requested beforehand they be arranged as a double, which is something they do on request). The room was cleaned to a satisfactory standard, though I did note stains on my pillows as well as hair in and around the toilet. Ick!
The bathroom door lock fell off as soon as we opened it, but maintenance quickly attended to repairs as soon as we called them. A chair in our room was broken as well, though we did not bother to report this.
Food at Sphere (hotel restaurant) in our opinion was just OK; nothing bad, but nothing to write home about either. You have a choice of buffet or a la carte. We opted for the latter as buffet looked iffy (it had clearly been out a while). For dinner, I’d suggest having a look down the promenade at some of the other eateries that offer better food at the same price point or less. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant, however, is lovely.
What was perhaps the biggest disappointment— which the hotel worked diligently to amend— was come confusion with spa appointments I booked. Sadly they could only provide one of two treatments I booked even with confirmation email as proof. They said they’d call the next day to rearrange, but didn’t. I took it upon myself to speak with reception, and was told there was no availability. At that stage I asked to speak with management, and the receptionist (Sonja, very nice and so obliging) invited us to sit with General Manager Ivana. Ivana took great care to listen to my concerns, apologizing profusely and ensuring I received the spa treatment I wanted. Later, a bottle of wine was sent to our room. I appreciated this gesture.
In terms of everything else, we found the beds to be moderately comfortable (again, nothing to write home about) and the room basic. I’d hardly call the spa a “spa.” There’s a single treatment room next to the gym and indoor pool. Compared to similar hotels I’ve been in with a four-star rating, I found this quite misleading.
All in all, while I greatly appreciated the intervention of management to address some of the aforementioned issues, it’s clear you’re paying for the location. This is a hotel for folks who want luxury (like me, I’ll freely admit it) but might not be able to afford it (like me, again, will freely admit it).
