2021 Travellers' Choice Best of the Best
In 1979 UNESCO declared the colonial city of La Antigua Guatemala as a World Cultural Heritage Site turning it to a recognized treasure of exceptional value before the eyes of the world. In the XVII Century, the Convent of Santo Domingo was one of the largest in America and in 1773, the earthquake of Santa Marta almost totally destroyed it. In 1989, the project known as Casa Santo Domingo was developed with the primary objective of rescuing the vestiges of the Convent and Temple buried under tons of rubble. Hotel Museum Spa Casa Santo Domingo progressively emerged where each corner is a page lost in time that joins others to form a beautiful chapter of the great book of our history.

Overall a good hotel, but no 5*. Beautiful property but aging accommodations (Old bed, furniture, etc.) Service front desk extremely slow. Breakfast is good but I think it is expensive compared to the cost in Guatemala. The hotel is old but clean and in good condition. The rooms are spacious. The cost of the Spa is acceptable.

This hotel is undoubtedly beautiful, and I waited a long time to come here, but it is not family friendly. I booked a family room since I have two young boys – one six years old and the other 23 months old. Within 5 minutes of entering the room my boys sat at a glass table whose top was not in any way fixed to the base, so it fell off and smashed to pieces right beside them, extremely dangerous pieces that could have caused serious harm. We were literally shaking and completely shocked by this!! The hotel management deny any negligence whatsoever and continue to charge me €207 to replace the table top. I just can't fathom how a hotel of this stature can be so irresponsible, put children at risk and still charge money. Disgraceful and extreme negligence. Will never stay here again and DO NOT RECOMMEND IF YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN.

This property is, without question , one of the most beautiful hotels in which I’ve stayed. The grounds, the amazing decor, our room were all superb. However, our experience was marred by significant flaws: 1. The front office could not provide us with a second key to our room. This proved to be inconvenient when my roommate left to visit a friend and I had to go to the front desk to have someone let me in our room. 2. There is no comfortable bar in which to have a drink/nightcap.. unbelievable given the options that exist for one. 3. The dining rooms were, I believe ,all open air, charming except that nights are cold & we had to wear a jacket to be comfortable at dinner. 4. The hotel seemed intent on not letting us have a room until 330pm, even though I doubt the hotel was even at 50 percent capacity???? The above flaws are very disappointing given the hotel’s glorious attributes.

I would go back to Hotel Casa Santo Domingo in a heartbeat. Not only is the resort so beautiful, but the staff is everything you can hope for and more. It is on a convent and the history remains in place. There are several museums and a chocolate shop on property. I rarely left the hotel as there was no need. There were even parrots! The spa was stunning. With a private pool and heat tub nestled away while you wait you notice every detail. I will be BACK!
