Aging hotel that desperately needs better management and food. Rooms are “fine” - showing their age as is the rest of the property (avoid the gym, it’s rough). The breakfast is big but flavorless, the service is hard to come by; some mornings they have someone to seat you, most they don’t. One morning we sat ourselves after waiting 10 minutes and someone came over and aggressively yelled at us and kicked us out. ?!? Highly recommend avoiding this hotel and going for one of the newer nicer options in town. English speaking at the hotel was random but I was able to get by.

Worn… very worn. The hotel was built in 2005, and I am certain they didn’t do any upgrades since then. The tiles in the main hall and also around the pool are all cracked, the sun beds squeak when you move them and the furniture in the room feels like it’s from the last century. Worst of all is the gym. You will find pictures online about their equipment, but when you get there, 50% of it is broken! The treadmill has the electronics ripped out and one of the Crosstrainers doesn’t work either. The second Crosstrainer makes funny noises, but works. The rest of the machines are rusting, some work, some don’t. Oh, and the food: breakfast is extremely boring. And the food at the other restaurants for lunch and dinner is terrible. Absolutely terrible. Please don’t make the mistake and eat here, there are plenty of better restaurants in walking distance. Over all: it might have been a great place 20 years ago, now it’s just and old bunker. Positiv: the location is great.

This hotel is great in all respects apart from the night-time noise issue which has been referred to repeatedly by other reviewers. There was loud music until 3am on the Saturday night during my stay. A good night’s sleep is a fundamental requirement you need from a hotel room. For the management to let these events go ahead when they know it will make it impossible for guests to sleep shows a lack of respect. I’ve never been to another hotel that would do this to its guests. Come on Sheraton, you must read these reviews, sort this problem out. The hotel is somewhat remote from downtown San Salvador. Moovit shows bus 34A as running right from the hotel to the city centre. This is quite wrong now, and Moovit is also inaccurate about many other bus routes in San Salvador. A taxi into the city centre from the hotel will cost $10 but if you want to get there by bus, walk down Av Revolucion to the main road at the bottom (called Alameda Manuel Enrique Arujo). Cross over to the other side and turn left. After about 10 mins walk you will come to a large bus stop by a 5-a-side football pitch. Lots of buses stop here, but a bus 101B which runs between Santa Tecla and San Salvador will take you into the city and along Calle Arce to within a few blocks of the city centre (Plaza Libertad). When the bus terminates just walk a few blocks eastwards along Calle Arce and you will be in the Centro Historico (Rosary Church, Metropolitan cathedral etc). To find your bus for return trip, walk back from Plaza Libertad along 2a Calle Pte unitil you get to 11th Av, turn right and walk north 2 blocks. Buses are almost always waiting in this spot (ie on 11th Ave between Calle Arce and 1a Calle Pte). Take number 101B again. Fare is 20 cents flat rate, put your coins in tray by driver. Look out for the five-a-side football pitch for your stop on the way back! Or maybe the driver would let you off closer to the end of Av Revolucion if traffic is slow (which it always is).

There’s no doubt this property has seen better days. Very outdated 1970s-1980s decor. Very dated and smelly bar. Old furniture in the bar and VIP lounge. Staff was friendly. Food was ok at best. And last, the loud sounds from parties happening everywhere in this hotel and outside. This is so disrespectful to your guests. I called to see when this madness was going to end and front office staff was very unapologetic and told me sometime before 3am. Unbelievable! Last time!

Whether or not this hotel will work for you depends upon what you are looking for. It is not new, shiny or swanky. The pool area seems to often be used as the conference area. One day there were only a handful of chairs available for pool use and on the other side of the pool was a boisterous conference. No relaxation could be had. I was lucky and the day I was sitting at the pool there was no conference so I enjoyed it. The location is great - safe area to walk in and tons of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

The Hotel is very outdated with visible cracks in the façade, dingy carpets, faded furniture, and old musty rooms. It should have been updated 15+ years ago. Service is average. No one really goes out of their way for you. I went to the gym a couple of times and the machines are old - they have only 1 treadmill which was defective. I also visited the pool one day and there are no towels anywhere. I asked a staff member who I believe was setting up an event for later that day and she told me the towels were located in the gym. Not convenient whatsoever, and on top of that when I walked back to the gym there were no towels. I had to find a waiter at the restaurant and ask about getting a towel and was told that was another department. Then I finally got out my phone and used the Bonvoy app to inform them via chat. I asked since I had been walking all over to get a towel if someone could replenish in the gym, but also BRING me a towel at the poolside. No one ever came. I had to walk back for a third time all the way to the gym to get my own towel (after waiting 20 mins). The service at the pool is non-existent. You have to walk to the restaurant and flag down a waiter. Very frustrating and not at all relaxing. The pool temp was extremely cold. The room is not very luxurious - bathroom is awful and the AC is extremely noisy. There is also no concierge at this hotel. I asked a few front desk people for recommendations and advice, they were not helpful and not knowledgeable - only trying to push me to book a private car service. I speak fluent Spanish and very comfortable traveling via Uber or walking, but could not get any local insight from any staff member on restaurants or activities. Very disappointing.

I have been staying at this famous hotel for the past 7 years and have always enjoyed the large pool, the comfortable rooms, the good food and an attentive front desk and restaurant staff. It’s “famous” because of a long list of dignitaries including presidents who have stayed here, however the building desperately needs a facelift, a renovation. The paint is pealing and some of the exterior cement is cracking. Perhaps some of the tens of thousands of dollars collected from their very large and LOUD pool parties could be used for the renovation? In addition to the fading, cracked building exterior there are other infrastructure problems, especially the bathroom showers which fluctuate dramatically in pressure and temperature.

I stayed here for a week in November 2022- never again. Unacceptably loud noise from parties until 2am on multiple nights during the week including week nights. We would revive a notification on the same day of the event with a “thank you for your understanding “…it’s dishonest that the hotel does not disclose these loud events when customers make their reservations. The staff’s solution to the fact that patrons couldn’t sleep due to the loud noise was to “see if there was another room available to move into”. As if moving across the hallway would make a difference. Plus, why should I have to move rooms at 10 o’clock at night?? Why not just turn down the volume a notch? Or if the hotel knows there will be parties why put anyone in the pool side rooms if you already know it will be too noisy. Too many other good options, don’t waste your money staying here

Pros/Likes: - Fast and efficient check-in - Pre-arranged transportation for night arrival from the airport with the hotel for $30 cash paid directly to the driver; not bad considering I took an Uber for the return on a late morning for $29.25 - Room was nice and large with a good bed though pillows were too soft for my taste - Located in one of the nicest parts of town with places to eat nearby, including 8-10 minute walk to Bambu City Center with more places to eat and shop - Multiple hooks to hang things in the bathroom, which was appreciated - Two pieces of Hershey's chocolates were waiting for me on the bed the first night and two more every day by housekeeping...nice touch! - Empty mini-fridge - Alarm clock/radio, which was appreciated - Daily bottles of water - Robe but no slippers - In-room coffee/tea - WiFi worked very well - Good breakfast buffet until 11 am, complimentary due to my elite status, with the usual cereal, eggs, bread, etc. but they had me at pupusa station! 😋 Otherwise it's $17.99 p/person - Club Lounge open from 2-10 pm: coffee/drinks/snack service from 2-4:30 pm and cocktails/hors d'oeuvres service from 5-9 pm - Spa on site with decent prices; had a great facial - Had room service twice and was mostly good and delivered on time though read below under cons/dislikes - Right next to the Museum of Art - Staff were very nice Cons/Dislikes: - Check-out took forever because there was only one person at the front desk taking care of a guest with some sort of issue, then when my turn came the agent had to switch PCs because of some technical issue (and I did not want express check-out because I was partially paying with some cash) - The location on Marriott's website is incorrect as it places the hotel near the historic city center - No local or traditional foods from El Salvador for lunch/dinner on the room service menu - I ordered a seafood ceviche for one of the room service items and asked whether the crab was fake crabmeat or actual crab cause I did not want fake; the person who took the order did not know but indeed it was fake crabmeat - There were parties with loud music by the pool on Friday and Saturday with the music on Friday going from 7 pm until midnight and on Saturday it had already started when I came back to my room at 4:30 pm then lasted until 10 pm; these are paid events for anybody from the outside (not just hotel guests) but very disrupting to the guests who would want to take naps in the afternoon or go to bed early 😡 Neutral: - Was upgraded to a Sheraton Club room due to my Titanium Elite status though the complimentary enhanced room upgrade is supposed to be the BEST available room not the next level of room; there were two higher room categories above my upgrade and the hotel did not seem to be full - Hotel is pretty and well-maintained (though you see cracks on the walls here and there) but has seen better days; needs a remodel to bring it back to its former glory - Hotel has that 80s beach resort vibe; you half near expect to step out onto the beach when you get out - Hotel is actually on top of a hill so walking up may be a little strenuous for some people Miscellaneous: - Pool looked nice (did not use) - Gym looked nice with various machines and free weights (did not use) - Review based on my Titanium Elite status Impression: Some good points but hotel has seen better days plus loud music is unacceptable
