I agree, my son and I did not find any places close by that opened early. Starbucks didn’t open until 8 am. The hotel is in a business/government building area with the subway close by. There is a large shopping mall and walking area nearby.

Definitely book the tours with the hotel at concierge. I've stayed here twice and they use an excellent tour operator. Don't worry about a thing they will take care of everything. I recommend Mutianyu great wall.
