I was pleasantly surprised by this camp. The staff are all very professional and my check in was pleasant. There were very helpful and keen to help make our stay comfortable.

Loved the pool which was small but refreshingly cool to bear hot days at the Mara. Its not so far from the tarmac and not in the conservancy both good options because it made it an easy drive and kept costs down. The park gate is close enough to do early or late game drives.

I liked that the crew at the restaurant indulged in my need for well brewed tea rather than the water tea bag nonsense and we got a flask full with every meal. The chef was also kind enough to ensure I always had African traditional vegetables in each meal as well.

My tent was comfortable, the lighting could be better if they catered for those of us who need a good lamp for reading in the evening. Bath and bed linen were fresh and changed routinely…and I had a comfortable bed, great walk in wardrobe space, a bathrobe and umbrella for rainy days.

There was something up with the water pressure and the shower facets that needs looking into as it meant very unsteady supply for hot and cold water. Other than this I quite enjoyed my stay.

I would recommend this for those looking for an affordable and comfortable place in the Mara.

Thank you so much for this review. We are glad that your stay was enjoyable. As per the reading lights, we have already installed bright reading standing lights adjacent to the reading table. For the water pressure, we have installed high pressure shower heads. Thanks for referring us to potential clients

Average feels a little unfair but Very Good feels too generous.

Wonderful helpful staff always prepared to help and answer questions and give advice.

Rooms are spacious and comfortable if a little dated, on a pleasant site down a rough track not far from the main park gate off the Narok Road - so accessibility good. Hot water from solar panels that takes a few minutes to get going. Lightning not good for reading.

Pool cool and refreshing if not so clean.

All of that is ok for what by local standards is a good value price, but then let down by the food which was never hot, luke warm at best and with little choice and a fair bit of repetition even on a three night stay. But coffee is available most of the day, with an honesty bar too.

WiFi only in reception, bar and restaurant area.

As of May 2022 all of the tents are closed for complete renovation as they decayed during Covid and will not reopen or be replaced any time soon. Booking sites still have them as bookable but you are allocated a chalet on arrival.

We thank you for your review. Sorry if in any way we didn't meet your expectations. We are doing all the best to replace the tents which had bad review and replace them with safari glass chalet. In the new rooms, we have provided bright lights after this positive review. As per food variety, we have improved our menu already. Thanks for sharing.

It's hard to leave a review for this property because it's in a great location it appears to be inviting when you first arrive. However b forewarned, there are some serious problems with this property. The most important thing for a property is to have a nice comfortable bed. I must say this was the most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept on in my life in fact there was no mattress. It only had a box spring. This was not unique to my room but all of the other guests traveling with me only had box springs. It was like sleeping on a board. Perhaps aboard would be better. In addition their beautiful atmosphere included individual huts that were covered by tent like structures. I love the look however these tent structures heated up the rooms to unbearable hot temperatures so you needed to find somewhere else to spend your afternoons. There is no air conditioning to cool them off and the fans could not outdo the heat generated from the Sun. The rooms were cool in the evening no problem sleeping. The bathrooms were okay. Our shower head only emitted a fine mist pretty tough to get the shampoo out of your hair. The food was good but limited in variety. Of the three places we stayed we ranked the food at this location third. Yes you will be fine staying here but if you value sleeping at night on a reasonably comfortable mattress and having a decent shower in the morning I would suggest you go somewhere else.

Worst hotel we have ever been to in Kenya.

Starting with the food where one of the guests was allergic to fruit and in the food they put fruit on her, they do not understand the importance of an allergy, because he could have died.

At breakfast, without coffee for breakfast, waiting half an hour for them to replace the buffet food, in half an hour everything was over... The tables were not set up at any time, so we had to wait quite a bit for everything.

On the other hand, the takeaway was a piece of dry chicken, with a broken boiled egg and a piece of bread. To pay extra for that seems unbelievable to me, and without cutlery to take of course.

Disastrous service, we had to ask for towels because they had not been put in the room, and you asked something and they sent you from one to another without a solution.

In addition we found the bathroom totally dirty, we had to ask them to come because it was totally horrible. The shower water without pressure, without ANY pressure, a trickle of water came out with which it was impossible to shower. In the sink the water came out brown, so you couldn't wash there either... The solution to all this was None. So in 2 days we couldn't take a shower.

As for the pool, totally dangerous and disgusting, the green water, the slippery curbs with the loose white pieces that left holes where you could put your foot...

In the room we found several spiders, not small ones, and they told us that nothing was wrong, that they could even be caught by hand.

At the reception there was always someone complaining and/or asking about the complaints book.

In short, if you don't want a bad experience on your vacation, don't choose this hotel.

We are really sorry for this disappointment. It wasn't our intention for your vacation to turn out bad. We experienced problem with our only water source which is a borehole and we noted the water table went down and pumped not si clean water. This has been rectified and we have dug second borehole. For the linens and restaurant experience, we had a meeting with the team and much has been done henceforth. We apologize for these.

My family and I stayed at AA lodge from December 19th - 21st 2020. Going by previous reviews we had very low expectations but when we arrived we were shocked at the transformation. From Reception, to rooms (we used the cottages), to restaurant, everything was perfect.
The food was good, prices extremely friendly, the rooms were clean. All Covid 19 protocols observed and staff were very friendly including the manager.

We will definitely stay at AA again when we visit Maasai Mara and recommend to anyone who has a limited budget.

Area of improvement: The management should consider renovating the tents and also fencing off the premise.

I wanted to experience some unique accommodations on my first visit to Kenya and after careful consideration I chose this hotel for its good value. I was hesitant due to mixed reviews but knowing it was owned by fellow countrymen made me feel relatively at ease. Overall the stay was quite pleasant; the wooden cabins had a lot of character with many local elements and the rooms were fairly clean. It was reassuring to have Chinese management staff present as communication was smooth and the hotel employees were friendly and attentive. The hotel provided three meals which were all decently prepared with a good variety of meat and vegetarian options that tasted quite acceptable. Contrary to expectations, the shower water wasn't unstable and although some facilities appeared outdated they functioned normally in all aspects. Worth mentioning is their unexpected drone rental service which solved a major problem for travel photography since bringing drones into this country is not possible. This African trip has been worry-free thanks to this added surprise

All was good and their pictures are helpful to know what you should expect.
The location is just outside of the park, with a short drive to it.
They gave us packed lunches for our safari day and the day of our departure.
It's important to know, there is no wifi in the rooms but in the public areas.
Food and meals are not much tasty but there is variety.
There is a time limit for using the pool, from 6 to 18, and no night swimming.

We were there for 2 nights. Its atmosphere is great. Beautiful lodge and good staff.
The food wasn’t good. It was not really fresh and diverse.
The rooms were in the form of beautiful lodges with a distance of each other and glass on three sides with a balcony.

Finally got to do the famed MAASAI mara game reserve.
This is the tail end of the migration season for the wildebeests to cross over from the Serengeti.
We didn't get to witness the river crossing but we got to see the wildebeests in addition to Buffaloes, Lions, Cheetahs, Elephants, Giraffes, Elands, Gnu, Crocs, Antelopes, etc etc.
The lodge has beautiful cottages but zero views, or maybe it was our cottage.
The check in wasn't smooth and the manager stubbornly refused to acknowledge the specs on the guest voucher. This was sorted after Head Office intervened and the rest was smooth.
The 2nd night wasn't so serene, with a large group playing loud music with a lot of ruckus.
All in all we had a memorable trip save for the few inconveniences. We will choose a different lodge next time.
Our tour guide was the best and we couldn't have asked for better.
