Our family was hosted by Sentinel Mara Camp for 3 glorious days. It is our absolutely favourite place to be in the Mara. The location is stunning right on the banks of the Mara river and the accommodation combines the perfect balance of luxury and authenticity. The mess tent and dining area summon up a delightfully nostalgic feel of bygone times yet provide all the modern comforts for a modern day traveler. The tents themselves are stunning.
The staff are so welcoming and provide a wonderfully efficient service making you feel at home but also giving you space. The food and drink is superb. Quite simply the perfect place to stay in the Mara.
Thank you!
The Stenning family

Sentinel Mara Camp is one of the best places we have ever stayed at. The tented camps, the interiors, the amenities, the staff, the food, and the location was just perfect! Every little detail is covered and exceeds expectations. Camp Manager Peter and the rest of the staff ensured that the surprise proposal my boyfriend planned went smoothly. They truly made the event special and set a beautiful table with sparkling wine, snacks and candles inside our tent (as it was raining, they improvised the location). The chef (Joshua) also made us a congratulatory cake to top it all off. Our tent attendant (Jonathan) always made sure we had hot showers and housekeeping was superb. Then there was Jacob, our very dedicated and friendly waiter who always ensured we had enough to eat and drink. Our driver/guide made sure to fulfil our requests to see specific animals, he is very well-spoken and really easy going, just a fantastic guy! We even decided to stay on two additional nights, just because we simply didn't want to leave. Thank you so much for the most unforgettable trip ever.

First of all, full disclosure - we live in Kenya and have camped in the Masai Mara many times. But it was my husband's 70th and time to splash out a bit. We also didn't want to have to pitch camp and cook for ourselves. We wanted to be private and comfortable without too much fuss. Friends told us to go to Sentinel Camp, a small eco-camp on the edge of the Mara River, in amongst the trees. This was perfect for our celebration. Spacious tents, beds with nets, solar lighting, hot safari showers and a beautiful view. The best thing about it is the all-in rate, meaning that all meals, drinks and activities are part of the package, including game drives. We are used to driving ourselves, but this time we really appreciated our knowledgeable Maasai driver/guide, Dominic, who drove us anywhere we wanted to go. With his local knowledge and incredible patience, we managed to see a wildebeest crossing, amongst many other sightings. Peter, our host, was constantly attentive and arranged a champagne bush breakfast on the birthday (his idea). What a treat. The staff were a happy team. And we had the camping experience but with more comfort and without the hard work. This is a not a luxury hotel in the conventional sense, but it is luxury camping a la Out of Africa. Anyone who goes here should be prepared for something different.
All Covid 19 protocols were observed

Thank you, Hillary, for choosing to come to Sentinel Mara and indeed, for your warm review of your recent experience with us. The Sentinel team enjoyed hosting you, and were excited for the opportunity to host you in celebrating your husband’s birthday with an exclusive morning champagne bush breakfast, and the evening presentation of a cake with the traditional Maasai Moran dance and ritual songs. As a boutique tented Eco-camp, being unfenced on a prime location as you’ve mentioned, gives us an opportunity to offer our guests an authentically close to nature safari experience combined with appropriate luxury of a bygone era, excellent game viewing facilitated by expert local knowledge of our silver qualified Maasai guides as well as a friendly and attentive staff. It will be lovely to welcome you and your husband back, for another wonderful safari experience with us. Kairbu tena!

This is not just a safari camp, this is a 5 star home-away-from-home luxury experience.
It starts with a friendly greeting from the amazing staff as well as the camp proprietor, Peter. You are welcomed as if you are a prestigious guest, and instantly made to feel as if the camp is your own home.

Although being a tented camp (the accomodations are large luxury tents), you will want for nothing. Every comfort is available to you; including hot showers, exquisite meals, fine wines, and personalized service. What makes this even more amazing is that Sentinel Mara is able to operate at this level of comfort and personal service and still have a low impact on the ecosystem. All power is solar, they do not use plastic water bottles, in fact we were told if they broke down the camp the location would return to its natural state within months.

The location is also unmatched. The camp is located within what I like to call a magical forest. The trees not only provide shade, but also a place for monkeys and baboons to hang out in camp. The forest is full of butterflies and singing birds. And the wildlife is right outside your door. The camp sits on the river with hippos right below, and lions roaring in the distance. Just a few minutes drive out of the forest, and you are amongst the giraffe and elephants of the Mara.

Now for Sentinel Mara's greatest asset, the STAFF. Immediately upon meeting the team at Sentinel Mara, you realize you are not at any ordinary camp or resort. The people here are the top highlight, they are warm and welcoming, charming and congenial, knowledgeable and genuine. They love this land and they love sharing it with others. I am not exaggerating when I say that after only 5 days in camp, I left in a fit of tears feeling like I was saying goodbye to my Sentinel Mara family. I am committed to returning, not just for the amazing wildlife, but to see my friends at camp once again.
Thank you Dominic, Jacob, Johnathan (at the dining tent) Jonathan (my room steward), Tony (my giraffe) Peter, Sankoyo, and our most amazing chef. Just thank you everyone at Sentinel Mara who makes this camp the magical place that it is.

Our visit was an unforgettable spiritual experience and I can't wait to return!

We have just returned to Spain after a trip through Kenya visiting Amboseli and Masai Mara. Our choice of accommodation in Masai Mara has been Sentinel Mara Camp. This was my seventh trip to Africa and I can say that Sentinel Mara Camp is the best eco lodge I have stayed at so far.
It is a small camp of only 8 tents nestled in a riverine forest with magnificent views of the Mara River.
It is very much appreciated for the effort made to maintain a colonial atmosphere, very careful in its decoration, which transports you to those classic safari camps of the beginning of the last century. The decoration is exquisite and full of details that help to create that magical atmosphere.
With a maximum of 16 guests, the camp breathes quietness and tranquility, ideal for a relaxing holiday.
Another strong point of Sentinel Mara is, if you love lions, is its privileged location. Situated in the heart of the Musiara marsh where you can find the famous Marsh pride with unforgettable views of the pride on a daily basis. Literally the lions are 3 minutes away from the camp.
Also I would like to mention about the wonderful cuisine of Sentinel Mara Camp. The food is varied and delicious, presented with great taste and always on the basis of three-course lunches and dinners. The wine selection (mostly South African) is superb and carefully selected.
The evenings after dinner around the fire, on the edge of the Mara River with a glass of wine or liquor in hand will always remain in my memory as unforgettable moments.
Many thanks to the whole team, especially to Peter (camp manager) for his attention and kindness at all times.
I would also like to express my gratitude to our guide, Dominic Maitai. Thank you for your enormous knowledge of the Mara and for your patience to stop once again to take the last photo of the day and above all thank you because, even if we were not the first to arrive at the place of interest, Dominic always found the best location for the photos (he certainly has a sixth sense that allows him to anticipate the movements of the animals).
Finally, I can only say that when I return to Masai Mara Sentinel Mara Camp will be my only choice.
All the best from Spain.

We recently were privileged to stay at Sentinel Mara Camp for our first African/Safari experience. It’s hard to find words to describe the beauty of the camp’s location overlooking the Mara river full of hippos, some elephants and an occasional croc. The morning light, the gorgeous sunsets, time around the campfire in the evenings were all amazingly beautiful. The staff are dedicated to running this camp with a respect for the land, animals and their guests together. It is a stunning authentic safari experience.

Our guide Dominic was outstanding, sharing his knowledge of the animals and getting us so close to them. We appreciated his patience as we opted to sit and watch nature play out, rather than run from one site to another. He knew where to take us and how the animals would react to get some incredible photos and up close experiences with them. We loved his humor and willingness to take us on those early rides.

Peter is a very personable host, seeing to our every need and sharing conversation in the evenings. David provided us with outstanding meals, setting the tone and ambience whether in the open air dining tent lit by candlelight, tables overlooking the river, or our last al fresco brunch outside of camp. The staff care about their service, the camp and their mission to provide an eco-friendly choice for visitors, and it shows. Thank you to those who woke us gently with coffee and biscuits, warm water for our faces, warm showers after rides, turning down our beds with a hot water bottle tucked in and so much more.

We hope to return and bring friends. This adventure just has to be shared. Asante Sentinel - till next time!

What a delightful first time experience to the Maasai Mara and unbelievable safari experience. Never did we think we would see so many species of animals in one trip.
Such unexpected treats while in safari and in the camp. The tents were so well appointed with four poster beds and luxury bedding, divided shower and toilet rooms. Hot and cold showers available upon request.
The meals were prepared by chefs and staff and not only delicious but also very accommodating for guests with special dietary needs.
The hosts Peter and Wendy were so welcoming and very attentive to all guests.
Try this camp as you will not be disappointed!

My experience at Sentinel Mara Camp was extraordinary, and I recommend it without reservation. Our guide, Jonathan, was brilliant: he not only knew where to find the animals, but possessed encyclopedic knowledge about each one, and how they interacted with each other.

The food at the camp was excellent with topnotch service and spectacular views of the Mara River, whose shores were graced with sleeping hippos.

The rooms (tents) were ample and well-appointed, with staff at the ready to help whether to prepare a shower, service coffee, or accompany me to the main tent area after dark.

I am a recently widowed American woman traveling alone, so it was particularly important for me to feel comfortable and well taken care of.

Thank you to Peter, the GM, and the entire Sentinel staff for making this a most memorable trip.

Just spent a week with a group of 20 and the staff at Sentinel did not miss a beat. They have never had a group this size and they were amazing. The staff was so attentive, the food was top notch and the camp and tents were extremely comfortable. Each night they prepared the tents which included a hot water bottle in the bed. We did two drives a day with an amazing group of guides. They were extremely knowledgeable of all the wildlife and never got impatient with all the questions of the group of Americans! As for the Mara, there was so much wildlife no matter where you looked. And finally, the owners, Wendy and Peter were the most wonderful hosts - so gracious and so passionate for the work they do to bring you an authentic and fantastic experience. If a safari is on your bucket list, I highly recommend Sentinel Mara Camp.

I cannot even begin to describe the wonderful experience my friends and I had here. When we arrived I was immediately charmed by the location, right on the river with the hippos splashing around, lush trees providing shade, and beautiful eco-tents that combined practicality and luxury. We were greeted by the Camp owners, Peter and Wendy, and their incredible staff. You instantly get the sense that for the duration of your stay, you are family. You get a quick brief on the camp grounds, general timelines for things like meals, shower requests, etc, and then are taken to your tent. The tents are beautiful with four poster beds, a bathroom, a shower, a desk, a chest with a key to store things like passports and other valuables, and a couple lounge chairs out front where you can take a coffee or tea and a snack to relax and enjoy the view of the river and it's teeming wildlife. Each morning we received a wakeup call and coffee and then our guide, Dominic, would take us out for the morning. I was so impressed by not just the knowledge of our guide, but the way he went out of his way to seize every opportunity to get us close to some of the incredible animals that occupy the Mara such as lions, giraffe, elephants, mongoose, baboons, water buffalo, impalas, topis, cheetahs. . . the list goes on and on. Each afternoon when you return from your late afternoon Safari, our guide would ask us if we wanted to shower so and radio that back to camp so that when we arrived we had hot water waiting for us. There is ample drinking water in your tent and at the heart of the camp and they take extra care to keep their promise to eco-friendly practices including providing a stainless steel water bottle to reduce plastic waste. The dining is 5 star cuisine! Every single meal is planned and executed beautifully from presentation to taste. Each evening starts with a campfire where you can unwind with a cocktail before a wonderful 3 course meal and chat with the owners and your fellow guests. I would recommend Sentinel to anyone looking to combine the traditional idea of a Safari, with the luxury of a traditional holiday. I will absolutely be back and I can't envision staying anywhere else!!

Answer from Peter T
Nairobi, Kenya
We do have a baby cot and welcome children at the camp. However it is important that parents make an informed decision as to whether Sentinel would be right for their particular children as an eco camp rather than a lodge. In summary, Sentinel is a wonderful experience for some children who would appreciate the authentically close to nature experience we offer.

Hi Warminup! Thank you for your question. Our Camp is located in the Reserve area so Wild animals including Monkeys & Baboons "visit" the Camp often if not every day looking for wild fruits. Monkeys are nevertheless easily tempted by a left-over cookie or a bowl of sugar or a fruit if left unattended. We hope you will be our Guest in the not too distant future. With sincere regards,
