Marriott Mena House in Cairo garners praise for its spacious rooms with breathtaking views of the pyramids, though a few guests suggest updates are needed. The hotel's cleanliness and well-kept grounds receive high marks, as does the attentive and professional service, with occasional mentions of minor hiccups in the restaurant. While some find the pricing steep, the range of amenities, including diverse dining options and an impressive pool, contribute to its perceived value. The historic charm and prime location near iconic sites are also highly celebrated by visitors.

We had 5 nights at the Mena House while staying in Cairo. An Egyptian friend had recommended this hotel for it's amazing views and he was completely right, the view is the best part of the hotel.

I wish I could give it 5 stars but we had a few issues when we arrived which were eventually sorted out: when we arrived at 2am we were given a room which was dirty and it seemed like hadn't been cleaned in a long time, we went back to the front desk with our luggage (the golf cart they had to move people from one wing to another was broken), the 2nd room given then had an awful smell of smoke, then the 3rd room was given and it was clean but the bathroom was dirty. The next morning Guest Services reached out to us and we explained the entire situation and they took care of everything making sure the room was perfectly cleaned every day. Our floor cleaner Mr.Ahmed Rabie made sure the room was perfect and we had fruits and Egyptian desserts every day. I hope the hotel can recognize him.

Now as for the hotel, the rooms are really nice, very spacious with a very nice shower. The gardens are beautiful with a great view of the pyramids. The breakfast has a lot of options for all diets.

As for the location it's a little far away from downtown and the airport but if you want to see the pyramids it's perfect. Would stay here again.

If you would like to get out of business and work pressure you have to go for a stay at Marriott Mena House, check in was really was a very personalized by Front desk "Habiba" she was so attentive and kind, Captain Tarek from the bell team he escorted us to the room and made the room orientation for us and also provided us with what we really need. Also when I asked him to drive me to the entrance and we had a chat about the heritage of Mena house he was a perfect storyteller, he took me to an old journey, you should ask for him and hear the story.
We enjoyed at the pool and really the service was amazing, also want to hilight that they are sanitizing the pool area (chairs) and everywhere in the hotel, i would like to thank samer from the pool bar he was very nice and smiley.
Don't miss to go to 139 restaurant at night to see the magical view overlooking on the pyramids and tasty food with really nice service, next day in the morning you have to wake up early to get your breakfast at 139 Restaurant with another magical view however it is the same but looks really different. Would like to thank Chef Hatem, Mohamed and Ms. Amal they are really attentive.
Thank you Mena house for this magical stay.

Overall a very well run hotel with excellent service. The facilities are first rate and the views of the pyramids from the grounds and the all day restaurant are special.

As a platinum Marriott rewards member, I had access to the executive lounge and an upgraded room. My room upgrade was to a "larger, deluxe" room. It was easily twice the size of normal Marriott rooms with a king bed, large desk, sofa and large balcony overlooking the main property (not the pyramids). The bathroom included a large shower, freestanding soaking tub (with a view of the property), and double sinks.

The executive lounge is open 24 hours for basics like coffee, soda, and water and has nice spreads for breakfast, light lunch, and a 2 hour happy hour. The happy hour includes several unique appetizers (e.g., shrimp tadhir, beef kibbeh, mini ravioli) some excellent wines including local ones. And of course, salads and desserts. The best part was the excellent service. It was also quite nice that I was able to use the lounge after check out as I had a very late night flight.

People that had Pyramid view rooms really like the view. I had to walk 3 minutes for the view.

It seems (at least for February) that Cairo hotels are reasonable. Certainly the price I paid was very good for a high end hotel at a special location.

We spent three nights here. Obviously, the location cannot be beat. The pyramids are literally right there everywhere you look. Other positives include the food at the restaurants (we tried all of them - Alfredo’s was probably the best but we liked them all), and the vintage photos everywhere. Other positives include the cleaning staff, who were super friendly and attentive, and the laundry service, which did a really nice job on our clothes. Now for the negatives. Unfortunately, the historic part of the hotel is under renovation so we were not able to see that. The design of the more modern wing is bizarre. The lobby and bar area is so confusingly designed that literally every time we came and went we saw people wandering around lost. The rooms were fairly good sized but the furnishings are tired and worn and the bathrooms were not practically designed. The service in the restaurants was uniformly very slow and often confused -they would bring the wrong item and not realize it, for example. It also seemed like everyone was walking around terrified that they were doing the wrong thing and asking if everything was OK, but unfortunately it just wasn’t. The service is just nowhere near up to the location. The hotel should really be a five star luxury property with service to match its location, but it just isn’t. I would not stay there again.

Hi
Spent a couple of days in Mena House, location, pyramid view and service were awesome. Booked a pyramid view room on the executive floor with free excess to 24 hours lounge, worth every penny.
Staff were so friendly, helpful and well trained. Dining was average, in the lounge and the Italian restaurant, didn’t try the Asian, which seems to have an excellent reputation. Outdoor heated pool, 28C, was fantastic, ultra clean, as I swam with mask and the pool floor was so clean. Landscape is very lovely and well maintained. The only negative point is the renovation taking place in the whole historical old building, so, we could not have our afternoon tea in the famous Mena house terrace. At last, I would like to thank Ms. Clara, for helping us to do a half day pyramids tour at a very reasonable price, which I highly recommend, and definitely don’t try touring or visiting the pyramids-by yourself. Also, many thanks for chef Ragab and Maher for their valuable service that make us feel like home.

We visited Marriott Mena house right before Christmas 2020. We are a family of 4 with two little kids. The atmosphere was quite relaxed, since there weren't a whole lot of tourists due to the COVID-19 situation. Overall, we had a wonderful stay at the Mena house. The hotel staff were very friendly, did a great job cleaning and sanitizing the common areas as well as the restaurants/lounge. The breakfast had a great spread with both Egyptian and international food.

The reason for the four star is our utter disappointment with the arranged pyramid tour, which completely ruined our experience. We were initially looking for private transport since the hotel concierge made it sound like it was quite a distance to the entrance from the hotel. The concierge service arranged for a pickup. We were met by a person called Saad, who started out trying to convince us that the only way we could tour the pyramids is using his service as a facilitator and guide. During the short ride to the entrance, he went on and on about how popular he was and that we should pay him extra and get his service. Since we have 2 kids, we thought it might be a good option if a driver would take us to the pyramids and drive us around to different spots where we could appreciate the history and admire the panorama. So we agreed to his service, which would cost 3 times that of the price for pick-up/drop-off. After we agreed, Saad proceeded to tell us that we need to get a camel/horse carriage ride. We were not up for it since the camels and horses looked to be in poor shape, but he kept insisting despite us telling him that we were not interested. After visiting the grand pyramid, we asked him to take us to a panorama point, but he kept telling us that camels are the only way to do it. Finally, I looked up on the internet and asked him to take us to a specific vista point. I also found that there was another point where you could see all three pyramids from a nearby café. However, he kept insisting that this was not possible, even though we paid him to drive us around. Furthermore, now he mentioned that we only have him for 2 hours and we need to move on.

We finally gave up and asked him to take us to the Sphinx. When we reached there, he suggested we should just take a photo and go to the papyrus museum to buy stuff. We kept politely declining and he seemed very disappointed. We insisted and visited the Sphinx area. When we got back, he mentioned that we used up more time than agreed and we need to pay hefty amount for the extra time. At this point, we were very upset due to the constant hassle and complained to the hotel staff when we reached back. After a very unpleasant exchange, we ended up paying more (six times more) than the initially agreed price.

This whole experience ruined our time at the pyramids in Giza. The next day, we visited the pyramids in Sakkara And Dahshur through a different company (that's for another review) and had a completely different experience, in a positive way.

We have stayed at some pretty amazing hotels, this hotel is surely at the top! The hotel and grounds are well laid out and very clean and orderly! Three restaurants all were extremely nice with wonderful staff. ALL the staff at the hotel bend over backwards to make sure you are taken care of in the highest degree, you will not be disappointed! The room we had was absolutely amazing! The pyramids are right in front, sit on your deck and enjoy them! The room itself was really nicely laid out, extremely clean! We had room 336, can’t imagine the views get much better. Large closet with a safe. Large bathroom with a comfortable shower. We had a king, very comfortable bed and coverings. Nice desk and sitting area with a couch with a TV. Water next to your bed and coffee pot. Mini fridge with cola and juice. The room has great lighting. Fresh cut flowers daily, we had rose petals on our bed daily. There is a ATM machine that you can use to convert money, being from the US it was simple. There is also a bank open 24 hours onsite.

We stayed four nights and had zero things to complain about, nothing what so ever! You will feel like you are at home, amazing service!

We were there in February and the pool was not open and the golf course and original section of the hotel is under construction, not open.

We went there only for one night not sure what to except as it was our first time there and our first hotel visit in Egypt since COVID.

As a Marriott Titanium member, the hotel makes sure to appreciate your loyalty. The hotel staff couldn’t have been more helpful. I requested a Pyramids Suite using my suite nights, but unfortunately none were available. The hotel still upgraded me free of charge to a garden suite.

The suite was modern, clean and functioning yet keeping with the traditional design which makes this hotel unique.

The lounge was closed due to COVID, so we had our breakfast and dinner at 139 restaurant overlooking the Pyramids which was great, however please note that finding an outdoor table could be a challenge especially during sunset.

Tip: go early to the restaurant to find a table outside overlooking the pyramids during sunset.

COVID-wise, all staff were wearing masks and kitchen utensils were given wrapped in plastic. I was also told by staff that there is a 12 hour gap between new guests occupying a room.

Overall, we had a great time. The property is lovely, the landscape beautiful, not to mention the charm of the pyramids by your side.

The main lobby is currently under renovation, so we used the new lobby by the pool.

Finally, I applaud the hotel’s management for the selection and training of their staff. All of which were on a mission to make our staff as comfortable as possible. Special thanks to Christy, Clara and Hedeya. We will definitely go there again.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights with some family and relatives on a tour of Egypt. We had a Deluxe Pyramid View room (#462). The first night it was difficult to see the Giza pyramids due to dust and probable smog, unless they were illuminated (which happened periodically). The next day, we had clear skies and views. It was such a pleasure to eat breakfast with a view of the historic pyramids!

There was a lot of sightseeing to do in the Giza/Memphis/Saqqara area. I would have liked to have had more time to relax at the Mena House by the pool or their many waterways.

Our room was spacious with a sitting area and sofa. The king bed was comfortable. There was plenty of closet space in the hallway. The bathroom was of adequate size. There was a single vanity and a combination tub/shower that was partially enclosed. Some water would get out of the shower area onto the bathroom floor if you used the overhead rain shower head. The room contained several universal wall plug outlets.

The hotel lobby area was a little bit of a labyrinth, getting between the reception area and the appropriate elevator. But eventually you could figure it out.

Hotel staff were friendly and spoke and understood English very well. Wi-Fi worked well, including with my Virtual Private Network. The breakfast buffet area had lots of appetizing choices; it had the most selection of any buffets during my trip.

One thing I observed is that hotels such as the Mena House have removed information about the hotel that used to be a binder somewhere in your room; I suspect it was removed due to concerns about possibly spreading coronavirus. There should have been handouts available at reception with key information—location and hours of restaurants, location of breakfast, hours when swimming pool and spa are open, map of property, whether water in the hotel and restaurants are filtered, etc. As an alternative, this info could be put on the hotel website, but that was not the case.

I observed another thing that travelers should be aware of. For meals, you pay a 12% service charge and 14% VAT (on the base charge plus service charge). When you charge the bill to your hotel room, a 1% city tax and a 0.14% R.C. VAT (both on the base and service charge) are added to the price of the restaurant bill.

The hotel is within the Pyramids complex and a short stroll up to the plateau. There is nothing quite like waking up and strolling to breakfast under the shadow of a 4,500 wonder. The location is also easy to get an uber and is around 45-60 minutes from Cairo airport.

The grounds are tranquil and well-tended and the rooms pleasant. I was upgraded to a garden suite which had a sizeable bathroom, lobby and seating area. All the rooms seem to have a balcony.

My stay was marred by the fact Egyptair lost my baggage and made it difficult for me to collect it even when it was located so effectively I had a week with no personal items.

I have tier status with Marriott so could access the lounge and most days could be found working on the computer there (very useful) and none of the staff battered an eyelid at my almost constant presence, with Ramy even bringing me a glass of red wine at one point. The executive lounge is excellent at this property.

I also had to rely on some fast turnaround laundry service as I only had the clothes I was wearing until I could purchase some replacements. Eisa was a superstar and got my clothes back to me within an hour, even staying late after the laundry should have closed.

Once I finally got my suitcase back, I could try out the fitness centre, which was well appointed and spacious.

I have only two minor criticisms. On one night there was a corporate event in the grounds with extremely loud music until 11pm. I phoned up at 10.50, not to complain (although I imagine many guests would already have done so), but to ask the anticipated end time. The operator first informed me it had ended; which was a surprise as it was still blasting out, and then strangely advised me to go down and watch the event. He didn’t really get the point of the call.

Lastly, the hotel is flying the union flag upside down at their front gate. A small point but I believe a reversed Egypt flag would get a custodial sentence. I mentioned it to the front desk staff but it was still upside-down on departure.

We visited Marriott Mena House in February 2024. The old historic section was still under reconstruction at that time with a few shops hanging on in hope of something better in the future. We later heard the news that the Egyptian Government had sold Mena House to Emirates investors though it is still continuing to be managed by Marriott. I would reach out to the Marriott Hotel itself to get better information but considering I looked at this in 2018 when it was under reconstruction and didn't go till 2024 I wouldn't hold out much hope (we stayed at Le Meridian in 2018 but it's not an option because closed due to subway construction). That being said we really enjoyed the non-historic section of Marriott Mena House Pyramid View but would definitely recommend clarifying with them what a pyramid view means (we got a sideways view from the balcony, others got a full on view). Enjoy your trip.
