After my ride from the airport in rush hour traffic, I was desperate to retreat to a quiet, comfortable room. I'm pleased to say that the Novotel El Borg delivered. The room was large, quiet, and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and had a clothesline for hand washing laundry (the sink basin was large and well-suited for this). The breakfast spread was well-stocked with practically anything eaten for breakfast in any culture. The restaurant for dinner was just okay. The hotel is well-located, as one can easily walk to the Egyptian Museum (for now) or to Opera or Sadat metro stations. Getting a taxi outside the hotel is not recommended unless you have a stomach for arguing.

Me, my wife and 2 children stayed here in early January and was very pleasantly surprised by what a gem this hotel was. The room was extremely large, very modern and comfortable. The staff were always friendly and willing to assist whenever required.
The breakfast selection was probably one of the most expansive and diverse I have ever seen in these "economy" Accor branded hotels.
The location is super convenient and if I ever return to the city would definitely stay here again or recommend this as a place to stay for any family vacation.

We stayed here for 4 night as part of a wider trip to Egypt. The hotel is a good quality 4 star hotel and it located close to the Nile and within walking distance of downtown Cairo. We arrived by sleeper train from Aswan and took the metro to the Opera station and just walked around the corner. We had booked an early check in and were in our room by just after 8am. We were kindly offered a newly renovated room which was spacious and clean. The bed clearly had a new mattress and was very comfortable. We were located on a smoking floor and while the room was find the corridors (even though newly renovated) smelled strongly of smoke! But to be fair to the hotel that was because of our early check in and we could have changed it.

There was a lot of background noise from the streets below even though we were in the 7th floor but this is par for the course in Cairo.

We ate breakfast in the hotel which was of great quality and quantity. We also had lunch one day at the roof top restaurant which was very pleasant and had great views. I ordered room service one night and the food was of decent quality and was served hot which is not always the case. We also used the laundry service which was outstanding, barring the fact that it came back a day later than promised, with no apology and only after we asked where it was.

The hotel has a heated pool and massage facilities, we didn’t get to use them but a great bonus for the winter in Cairo.

The reasons I don’t score the hotel higher -

The water pressure in the shower was very poor.
The WiFi was the worst I have experienced in a hotel. Plainly slow to the point of sometimes not working.
The rooms were cold at night and it seemed difficult to heat them using the air con system.

Overall I would stay again.

The staff here is to be commended. When we arrived, they said the room would not be available for the night due to a problem on that entire floor. So their car drove us to their 5-star sister hotel, the Sofitel, that is nearby. They upgraded us to a king room with a Nile River view for the night.

The following day at the Novotel, the room was great. Large enough for our luggage, backpacks, and to walk easily around the room, the room was very clean. The bed was comfortable, clean, and its linens and pillows looked new. All the furniture was in wonderful condition. The bathroom was also immaculate, with plenty of hot water and good pressure. All the fixtures worked fine. For being in the center of a city with 30 million residents, the room was remarkable quiet, and the sleep quality was outstanding. There is an ATM conveniently located in the lobby.

The only thing that prevents this hotel from getting 5 stars is their breakfast. With the hotel's French roots, its breakfast was disappointing. Although the croissants looked very French, they had a texture that made us think they had been frozen. We stuck with yogurt and fruits.

If we are ever fortunate enough to return to Cairo, we would definitely stay here again. The location, customer service, and room accommodations are wonderful and well worth the money!

On arrival to our room we discovered that we only had a hand towel in the bathroom, we contacted housekeeping and they supplied another hand towel and two bath towels very quickly. Unfortunately the WiFi was difficult to connect in our room and was very flakey during our stay. We went to the rooftop restaurant for dinner which has great views, but the wind was intolerable. We were informed that it's alcohol free, we were only staying one night so it really didn't concern us.

You have two teenage kids and don't want to pay $300 per room (you would need two) per night (say, 5, for a short visit): Novotel is the place for you. My wife and I loved the Nile view from the hotel's second floor (= a normal seventh floor, given that an area equivalent to five stories in the building is not occupied with rooms). It was a pleasure going to bed with the Nile glittering in colorful light and waking up to a beautiful morning view of it, with Khadive Ismail Bridge (AKA Qasr al-Nil Bridge) facing you, two of its emblematic four black lions visible all the time. Ask for Mr. Yahya, a receptionist of diverse talents, who used to work for Sheraton. When I indicated to him my need for a strong internet connection for a work meeting, a small router with its own internet line was delivered to my room, which did the trick.

(You can always cross the bridge for a proper cappuccino at the Ritz, @100Eg£|$7, twice its price in Los Angeles.)

Stayed here on a family holiday for 8 nights. Had two superior rooms with sofa beds in each, with city views (quieter than Nile view?) Reception staff were extremely helpful allocating both rooms on the same floor, close to each other, Floor 5. Rooms were a good size, very clean, beds very comfortable and the sofa bed adequate for two children aged 6 and 7. People have complained about the outside noise from Nile cruises into the night but this did not cause a big issue. We had read reviews so were well aware. Do your research before you stay! Housekeeping staff were very attentive to any needs or requirements for our room, always with a smile.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with lots of choice of both hot and cold food. Omelettes etc. were also made to order. The rooftop restaurant was a nice place to chill with great views over Cairo.
The swimming pool was on the small side, very clean and a relaxing place to chill as a family.
Used Ubers for getting around and walked to many places too. Plenty of Restaurants in the area and small supermarkets for drinks, snacks etc.
All in all, a very welcoming, well equipped, spotless hotel with great staff.

This hotel had some positive elements to it but the service really let it down for us.

Location: The hotel is pretty well located in the centre of Cairo itself very much on the Nile. Behind the hotel is a small shack selling bottled water and snacks.

Facilities: The swimming pool is a real bonus for the hotel- it was out of service on our first day but was great on the second to be able to chill out after a day of sightseeing.

Food and drink: There is breakfast included which was fine- there were cold and hot options available but the range didn't change each day so was a bit repetitive. We visited during Ramadan and found it incredibly difficult to find anywhere to get lunch or drinks during the day in the city. The rooftop bar said that it was open for lunch but when we visited no one was available. We decided to order room service and upon calling the number was told that the person spoke no English and we had to go down to reception. We found that getting a drink at the rooftop bar in the early evening was quite uncomfortable and difficult which is a shame as it is a real asset to the hotel.

Service: When we arrived at the hotel there was no one on reception and we had to wait a while for someone to appear. In addition, the service in the rooftop bar was a shame.

Room: The room was a good size and included a sofa as well as a large bed. The air conditioning however did smell of petrol fumes and the pillows were quite uncomfortable. Also, the wifi in the hotel is quite poor and drops out a lot.

Overall, whilst the hotel had some good facilities and location we felt quite uncomfortable at times during the stay.

I booked this hotel 9 months in advance of my July trip to Egypt since I had found a good rate for a room with included breakfast on the website Agoda.

Once I arrived at the hotel early morning, I was told by Ossama at the front desk that normal check in was 2 PM, but he could provide me with a room right away for an extra charge of $40. Since I was exhausted from a long travel, I agreed to take that room and pay the $40. He then asked me to wait for half an hour while they get that room ready. It turns out that in fact he did not have a room to give me but rather wanted me to sit in the lobby for God knows how long in hopes of another guest checking out early. What kind of a hotel pulls that nonsense. In any case, I told him that I was leaving my suitcase with them, and that I will return at normal check in. Once I came back, they checked me in, but to my surprise, they told me that I would have to pay extra for breakfast. I informed them that the breakfast was included in the room rate, and I provided them the Agoda documentation guarantee of my booking. Then they went to this front desk manager Yehia who told me that the included breakfast was not in their system at which point I insisted that they honor my reservation, and that they can take it up with Agoda.

It seems that they wanted to charge me more money at every turn since the rate that I had booked 9 months earlier was less than what they were charging currently. (note to general manager, please honor your agreements with these hotel websites).

The second and most frustration thing about this hotel is a complete lack of the breakfast restaurant customer service. Once I ordered an omelet , and the person making it had given it to a random customer, another time I asked for a glass of orange juice from a waitress who was just standing at the entrance, and she never brought it over, I spoke to a supervisor about this issue, and as I was leaving breakfast this waitress give me such a dirty look like how dare I complain about her lack of service. The wait staff used to hang out in groups chatting away instead of assisting guests with their needs. I contacted customer relations regarding these situations at breakfast, but she did not seem to care about customer satisfaction, nor did she apologize for this lousy service.

The only good service that I received at this hotel was from Mohamed in 5th floor Housekeeping who was very diligent in doing his job and always had a smile on his face. He did a good job in cleaning my room everyday, and replenished all the bottled water, coffee, tea and towels that I used.

( General manager, why can’t you instill these values of good customer service that Mohamed has in all your employees, after all, this is a service oriented business).
