A recommender.

I traveled to Kinshasa in the summer of 2011 to pick up my adopted son, and we spent two weeks at the Guest House. We spent most of our time at the hotel, and the English-speaking staff treated us warmly and with great kindness. I enjoyed discussions with them about their country, and one staff person took me to his church on an outing. We ate most meals on the patio, and since it was "winter" there, the outdoor setting was delightful. On hot days, our in-room AC unit worked well, and I appreciated the staff cleaning my room every day. Laundry service is available - not cheap - and they sell phone cards at the bar. The included breakfast was hearty and filling. Lunch and dinner meals were tasty but pricey - I think the spaghetti was the best deal (most food for lowest price). I felt secure at all times - guards at the gate and a protective staff. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 is that one of the other guests had cash stolen from his room in mid-day. I never had anything stolen, but be careful. That can happen anywhere. Electricity was often off during the day, but they have a generator they always turn on at night. Internet access was spotty but often good from my room. Since I don't speak French or Lingala, having an all-English speaking staff was a huge plus.

Stayed two nights. Friendly, helpful staff. Check in process slow. Room and bath were clean, not musty. Good A/C. Pool is small and a bit grubby - did not use. Generator provides electricity almost 24/7. WiFi functioned most of the time; was best early morning and late at night. Restaurant has a few dishes - prices similar to most better Kinshasa restaurants. No filter coffee, only instant. Parc Joli is on the far side of the city from FIH airport, but is reasonably close if you're doing UN related work or if heading to Bas Congo / Matadi.

As the hotel is in Ma Campagne, you will need a driver or access to a car if you are there for tourism. I stayed there with my husband for 16 nights and it was such a surprise to find a hotel in Kinshasa which wasn't hugely overpriced but with a clean pool (albeit small) and hot water etc Our room was $85 a night compared to the Grand Hotel or Memling which are about $250-$300 and not as pleasant. We also got breakfast with our room rate but bread and eggs get a little boring after 16 days!
Having said that the restaurant was hugely overpriced for what it was, chicken with rice or chips etc was $25 so we ate there only once. The problem with the location is that your choice of local restaurants is limited so you have to go down town, 15 minutes with no traffic, rush hour can take up to 40 minutes.
As the pool is only about 5 meters long it was a real shame and spoilt our enjoyment of the pool that the staff allowed non residents of the hotel to use the pool, one family arrived en masse with about 8 children who were dive bombing us, this happenned for three days in a row. There is no wifi but there is a little cyber cafe which is fairly efficient on the hotel site but not always open. The hotel staff were in the main polite and friendly. We will stay here again and I recommend it to anyone who knows Kinshasa or is staying there for work but as a first time tourist I would recommend staying downtown as transport is difficult in Kinshasa and you wouldn't want to eat in their over priced restaurant every night!

Nice B&B in a quiet neighborhood. Reasonably priced (VERY reasonable for Kinshasa!). A bit out of the way, but has a nice little resto (and you can also get pizza delivered!). Pool is not sparkling, but clean enough (this was during the rainy season, so to keep it even halfway clean is a gargantuan effort!) Nice little bar area. Staff is very helpful! Breakfast included. WiFi works most of the time. Very safe!
