Detailed Reviews
Myself and my daughter stayed here for the second part of our holiday whilst visiting family nearby.
The hotel was much more modern than our first hotel stay and the room was far superior - light and airy, twice the size, the beds were huge; separate shower room and toilet. Cheaper too.
The food choices here were more limited and lacked labelling (worrying from an allergy perspective), though our full board option did include a soft drink unlike our first hotel stay. It would have been nice if this could have been "upgraded" to an alcoholic beverage.
We went to Hytes bar on 27th floor 3 out of 4 nights. It was rather smoky and on the last night the bartender dropped a drink over my daughter and her phone. Whilst there was an apology there was no reduction of the bill or complimentary drink which I thought was a little disappointing.
Staff (at the bar and in the restaurant) were always pleasant and remembered our choices from the first evening, which was appreciated.
There was an option at the other hotel we stayed at to decline housekeeping and receive a a credit to be used in the hotel bar (or donate to the hotels chosen cause.) This may be something the Southern Sun could consider.
The hotel felt more geared towards business guests than family, but it's location was great for us as our family live nearby and it wasn't too far from the British Club.

Location: The hotel is located in the city of Abu Dhabi, a few minutes away from the Corniche. There is an ADNOC gas station conveniently located next door for car refueling or late night snack purchasing. They also offer underground parking, although the way to the entrance can be a little long-winded. You really do need a car to get around in Abu Dhabi, but most malls/restaurants are within reach of the hotel.
Rooms and Amenities: The rooms are very spacious and quiet at night and feature a comfortable bed and a bathtub and shower right in the middle of the room, which was an interesting touch. A decent breakfast is offered in the Foundry Restaurant which has a nice ambience and a varied selection of pastries, cereals, juices and the usual breakfast fare (eggs to order, bacon, toast, etc...). Coffee and tea are also available on request.
Staff: Always friendly and helpful. I want to give special mention to Ms. Kayi, Mr. Ahmed, and Ms. Pretty for making my last stay especially memorable.
One thing to keep in mind is that they do ask for a deposit of 200 AED (returned when you check out), so do have cash on hand.
Overall, this is my go to hotel in Abu Dhabi.

We had one of the most comfortable stay at Southern Sun, all the amenities were top notch, breakfast was good as well, not impressive but good enough.
Beddings were really comfortable, pillows are very soft, and room was large! Both suitcases were on the floor, yet we still had room to walk around.
Bathroom are best for couples, as the bathtub had a see-through glass, the shower area was more concealed but not opaque. Water pressure is good, though it easily changes from cold to hot, so better be cautious.
But overall the best part was our helpful concierge, named Ramil. He made it a point to help us from money exchange, printing of our tickets, getting a ride to giving us ideas and tips on how to explore Abu Dhabi! This made the trip extra awesome! Thank you so much for the great service :)

Booked a room, arrived late evening after a full day of work, and they had available only smoking rooms. When asked to be upgraded I was told that all the best rooms are smoking as well. The smoking rooms are smelling disgusting by the way.
I received in the end a 2 beds room which were quite small and definitely not worth the money. Beside this, it had a door for the next room I believe, which was blocked but very creepy, and I had a lot of noise in the morning. Terrible stay!!
At least the staff at the reception was professional.

Dear AncaLazaroni, Thank you for staying with us and I am really sorry to read that you did not have a pleasant stay with us as we could not offer you a non smoking king bed when you arrived. On a positive, we will be converting smoking rooms into non smoking this week which should help in the future and I also see that you enjoy our professional Associates on the Front Desk. I still hope that we will be able to welcome you back in the future. Kind regards, Pierre Delfau General Manager

I can assure you that this is not the norm as can be seen by the numerous comments we receive on a regular basis on this website. I have address your issues with the Team to ensure we take better care and we also had a the kettle removed from the room which had been used by the previous Guest to boil milk. This should have been noticed by our Colleagues during the cleaning process though. I do hope that this will not stop your from returning in order to show you our true hospitality. Our first stay in AD probed to be very pleasant indeed and our accommodation was here at the SSH, which had everything we needed for a great holiday. It’s location is around a 25mm drive from the airport and it’s conveniently close by to many sights including the fabulous Galleria Shopping Mall (to be reviewed separately) local taxi fare approx 80AED e/w taxis are very reasonable in AD we used them on many occasions due to their cheapness compared to UK / other European cities. Let’s start with the hotel staff, who were all extremely polite throughout our stay, especially Yesu Babu who cleaned our room! Rooms are large and spacious with very high ceilings, which puzzles me and bathroom and room amenities had everything required. If I could add some constructive criticism it would be have more practical draw space as the drawers available were as useful as a lighthouse in the AD desert! I would have also expected more plug sockets located where you need them at bedside for example. Another slight niggle was the fact we had no hairdryer in our room along with a single bathrobe. Granted, housekeeping did rectify the situation but within a day we were back down to a single bathrobe again and I couldn’t be bothered asking for it again. The TV was a Smart type which previous reviews had said wasn’t and there was good choice, however I never like to leave my holiday viewing to chance and bring along my laptop and fav Netflix channel! Breakfast was more than adequate with plenty of choices including eggs / omelette cooked to order, however some chef did struggle with our poached eggs. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to UAE country’s ‘beef or turkey bacon’ but I managed without my cured pork fix for a week no problem, first world problems eh. Only minor gripe was that the coffee on offer was not good, often cool and not to my taste and they just cannot boil that water properly for our cup’ o tea now can they. We tried 3 other dining options during our stay 2 were very acceptable (both based on M3 floor) BUT beware eating on the pool floor 27! Worst meal all holiday, and maybe we just picked a bad time as we had just come from the airport around 9:30pm. Our order consisted of pizza (v poorly undercooked) two types chips both barely luke warm and a extremely thick n ignorant wrap sandwich Mrs Lowe couldn’t eat. We did tell the waiter who served us and after mentioning it twice he gave Mrs Lowe a free glass of wine, which felt a little miserly as those that have eaten in AD will know the prices are far from cheap. I’ll put this one down to a bad day at the office for the SSH as the rest was great. Always helpful each day getting us taxis, putting golf clubs into cars etc so I would highly recommend this hotel

Honestly, I love the hotel, especially for it's worth. Its cost-efficient, clean, has 7 different food+beverage outlets to choose from and the staff is nothing short of friendly, professional and pleasant to deal with. I especially commend Chris who works at the sports bar - such a lovely professional, always has an amazing attitude and ready to go out of his way to help. Mind you I've lived in and out of the hotel for 4 months now. He deserves the recognition :)

I stayed here with my mom and sister for a weekend getaway and we really enjoyed the good location of the hotel that provided reasonable cab rides to the main attractions like Corniche beach, the Louvre, the Great Mosque and Masdar City. Our room was very spacious, nice and clean but it had issues with some lights not working. I told them when we checked out and they promised to take care of it quickly. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast and food was very good, too. We loved the rooftop pool bar where we had drinks and a shisha in a wonderful atmosphere and with Arabic lounge music. We loved the stay at Southern Sun that seemed to be mainly frequented by business travelers and individual travelers and we would always recommend it, especially if you’re looking for a good hotel for a short stay and not for a beach resort...

Please, tell me your question in english
Roughly around 70-80AED.
I can’t be as accurate on the amount as possible as it’s been 4 months since I last visited the Southern Sun hotel but i remember it was 50 dirhams more for the buffet breakfast that’s if you choose not to pay a complete fee for bed a breakfast at once.
Not so near and pool no very nice its nice hotel but you can found for same price some others really better.
Hi Clair, I'm not sure about Gala Dinner, but you can easily email the hotel and ask them.
For the fire works, yes there is fire works at the city but I doubt that you can see it from the hotel location, depends on your room view.
Hope this answer you questions.
