Detailed Reviews
Came back to Dan Hotel Tel Aviv after having been there 5 years ago. Overall not much has changed in the hotel, but did run into several issues during the stay.
We arrived from the airport tired from an overnight flight without much sleep at a bit after 10AM. Check in at the hotel was at 2pm but they said they will try to get us a room as quickly as possible. They asked us to wait in the restaurant while they got the room ready. At the restaurant we ordered a meal which was good, but the staff was somewhat not sure on how to speak English to the guests. After checking at the front desk after 2 hours we moved over to the executive lounge which opens at noon and stayed there asking for them to find us there to see if the room is ready. They never called for us, and when we had the staff member call the front desk, he told us at almost 2 pm that still no room was ready. We decided to go to the front desk in person where we basically had to complain loudly that we had been patiently waiting and the room should be ready at 2pm. They finally assigned a room for us and asked if it would be ok, or would we want to move to the original room we were assigned. We said no, just take us to the room. They had the bell staff bring out suitcases which were supposed to be in a locked room, yet it was sitting on a cart by the hotel exit.
Once in the room, we were happy to finally be able to get inside the room. It seems though that whoever designed this room really wanted to upgrade the room, yet it’s not a great design. The bathroom counter is barely big enough to hold toiletries for one person, never mind two. The shower leaks to the outside of the shower door.
The room service menu is not 24 hours and after 10PM you have a choice of only 3 items to eat and the rest of the day it’s a minimal menu at the best.
Housekeeping is just average at best. After the first night they took away the soap we left on the counter and did not replace it and took away washcloths never to replace them. The following night they took away the bathmat and never replaced it. The towels were basically thrown onto the towel rack and not kept neatly. The bed was made up, but you can tell the pillows were just thrown onto the bed and again not neatly put there.
Overall, this hotel has gone down in quality compared to what it was 5 years ago. And keep in mind that this is a hotel where international dignitaries (such as presidents, celebrities and very VIP guests) stay, yet the quality is not up to that standard in my book. No longer the 5-star hotel it used to be.
I guess for future travel we will stay elsewhere.

I have been coming to The Dan for more years than I care to remember and this is my first trip since covid. The front of house staff and many of the serving staff are still great although many now seem inexperienced and are not quite a slick as they were. The cleaning/room servicing staff are a bit dire. Nothing was replaced, room cleaning was very poor, a rubbish sack was let in our room, sheets not changed, and generally falling far below what I have come to expect. Too many niggling things to mention.
They do not really cater well for gluten intolerant guests, which given that some much is available generally is inexcusable. I am due back here in August but feel a bit concerned if the service does not improve or go back to the way it was.

After waiting nearly 5 hours after check in we finally got given a room. I still don’t really know what took so long. I understand we checked in during Shabbat however everyone else who checked in at the same time as us (including a delta airline crew) got the rooms right away. To be fair Maya guest relations manager did offer us complimentary dinner in the hotel for the trouble we had been caused.
Service and cleanliness in the hotel needs to be greatly improved they are short staffed and are not providing the 5 star experience one would expect.
Pool area was lovely and how can you not get tired of that view. Only disappointment was that the pool bar was not open during the week so if you wanted any drinks you had to get room service to bring them to the pool for you! The pool area toilets were disgusting and avoided at all costs.
I am still awaiting an issue to be resolved with the hotel bill as was charged tax due to their system being down. I haven’t been refunded correctly and still waiting a response to my email regarding this.
Overall a very average hotel experience and apart from view and location I wouldn’t stay here again

My family and I stayed at this hotel last summer and had a wonderful time. The service was excellent.
When we planned our subsequent trip, I insisted that we stay at the Dan Tel Aviv. That was a mistake.
Foremost, late one evening, while trying to put my toddler to bed, housekeeping walked into the room unannounced (no knock, just walked right in). This was unexpected and frightening. They quickly left, but it was jarring.
As an observant Jew, my family and I do not turn lights on or off on the Sabbath. When we left our hotel room on Friday afternoon to light candles in the hotel and subsequently attend prayer services and dinner, we left the lights in the room off. Only to come back to the room around nine o'clock and find them on. It took two visits to the front desk to rectify the situation.
Smoking is supposed to be prohibited in the hotel. However, multiple times the hallways to the rooms stunk of cigarettes.
Another disappointment was the King David Lounge. Children are not allowed in the lounge. This is an understandable rule, as alcohol is served. However, last summer when I visited, I was able to get some food and eat it right outside of the lounge with my child. This trip, I was told that was prohibited, and that if I would like to use this service I would need to hire a babysitter. Access to the lounge is not free, and it was an amenity that I was looking forward to utilizing, as I had in the past.
My family visits Israel regularly, and this was my go-to hotel. Not anymore.

The Dan has become a 3-star hotel that caters to airline crews. Decor is dated, my room was stuffy and not cleaned properly; water in the faucet and shower had a musty smell. Staff was unprofessional and somewhat rude. The Israeli breakfast is bountiful but you can find this at every hotel in the country. Whether you’re seeking a business hotel or on a family trip, there are so many beachfront options at every price point, don’t settle for this Miss Havisham. Her glory days are long over.

I have been staying in Dan Tel Aviv very often and I am actually a e-Dan Club silver member as it's our Corporate hotel and I have some projects in Israel at the moment. But young gentleman at reception at night is so poorly behaved!
I arrived in hotel quite late (around mid night) and told him clearly that I would like to have a high floor room so it's quiet and I can sleep properly. He tried to give a room on floor 1 and persuaded me that it has a very nice sea view and not on the street side. But it is indeed on the street side and no view at all (a view of wall) and it feels like that you are sleeping in the jail!
I asked him immediately to change the room, and it is unbelievable that he refused me and told that it's fully booked and reserved. But then a lady came and got a high floor room!! I complained about his behavior and asked to talk with his supervisor. He is keeping using excuses and says that he is in charge at night but cannot change it for me, while whatsup someone??! So the other rooms are reserved for some noble guests or what's the point here??
So only around 1:30 am, he gave me a change to the 4th floor (quite noisy), which proves again that all of his excuses are simply lies. This is simply the worst front desk that I ever met. His behaviors are ridiculous/unprofessional and totally destroy any trust that this hotel has built to me.
Furthermore, I also don't understand what's the point that I don't get the room type if I have stated clearly in my preference in e-Dan system? If it's not giving loyal customer any better treatment, is this a joke that I need to write there??

Dear aluzeing, Please allow me to apologise on behalf of the hotel for the lack of service that you received at our front desk on arrival. Whilst there is no excuse for the manner in which you were treated by our Night Receptionist, I would like to point out that he had very limited options to offer you due to the occupancy of the hotel that night. In addition, due to a number of unique groups we had staying with us, he was told not to change any of the room allocations unless there was no other choice. Be that as it may, the manner in which you were treated was not appropriate and certainly not the standard one would expect from the Dan Tel Aviv. I would be most grateful if you could reach out to one of the team at Guest Relations on your next visit so that we can ensure that you stay is as flawless as possible. Regards, The Guest Relations Team

I have recently had 2 short stays at both the Dan Tel Aviv and Dan Eilat hotels. These are both top of the range prestige hotels of the Dan group. I was amazed to find such a difference between these two supposedly 5 star hotels.
Firstly I should point out that the cost of one night in the Dan Tel Aviv for bed and breakfast is only slightly less than 2 nights bed and breakfast plus buffet dinner and return flights by Arkia at the Dan Eilat. I think this confirms what many previous reviewers have suggested that the Dan Tel Aviv is priced too high. While on the subject of cost, it might be worthwhile noting that in the Dan Tel Aviv if you by mistake use a plastic bottle of water they charge an exorbitant price whereas the glass bottles of water are free; at the Dan Eilat the plastic bottles are free.
The Dan Tel Aviv no longer provides free newspapers; the Dan Eilat does.
I was very surprised that the Dan Tel Aviv has no blankets or duvets in the room. We had to request two; they only delivered one and we had to request a second one. Quality five star hotels normally have something in the rooms during the cold weather.
The Dan Eilat is very well staffed compared to the Dan Tel Aviv. For instance, there were 4-5 clerks at reception at the Dan Eilat but only one at Dan Tel Aviv.
Some would say that comparisons are odious but I would suggest that the comparisons I have outlined of these 2 suposedly first class hotels, the Dan Eilat is far superior to the Dan Tel Aviv.Maybe the manager of the Dan Tel Aviv should visit the Dan Eilat to see how to manage a prestige hotel efficiently. The ''Best of the best" rating for the Dan Eilat is fully warranted whereas the Dan Tel Aviv is a long way off achieving this honoured status.
Years ago the Dan Tel Aviv used to offer a daily first class business lunch. They stopped offering this after a 50% increase in price killed the demand. They also used to offer a splendid Saturday lunch which they have also stopped.
I sincerely hope that my review may encourage the management to follow the example of their sister hotel and improve the service and value that they offer their customers.

Much about this hotel screams 1960s, but not necessarily in a bad way. The rooms are big and the one we stayed in was huge. Old-style radio piped into the bathroom and "classic" phone in there as well. Th only real downside to the classic look is that it is very dark by modern standards.
The breakfast buffet is one of the best anywhere, and is worth the stay by itself. We also paid extra to have access to the lounge where there were drinks and food available eery day. It was nice to be able to unwind after a long day of sightseeing with a drink and a nosh overlooking the Tel-Aviv beach.
The only real downside to us was that is was farther north than most of what we wanted to see, but that meant we got a lot of walking exercise which was not really all that bad. On location alone we might stay at their other hotel the Dan Panorama next time we visit, but only if the amenities are as good.
Definitely consider staying here. We stayed for 10 days and are so happy we did.

Dear Warren, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on TripAdvisor and for the kind words you have included in it. Our property is gradually going under renovations and we have recently finished the wing facing the sea. The city wing will be renovated very soon and our rooms will be replenished with new furniture and accessories. I am glad you have enjoyed our exquisite breakfast like many others do. Thank you for noting that down. The hotel is located on the sea line and in the center of the city, merely a walking distance from many points of interest. Afterall, i am glad we urged you to do some sports daily during your visit :-) We look forward to having the pleasure of welcoming you again very soon! Warm Regards, Nassim Mansour Front Desk Manager

I arrived at 3:50 and front desk receptionist after waiting 15 to 20 minutes tells me ok great just need credit card and passport etc. And you’ll be good to go (or stay) I provided the requested and signed some forms and then she drops the great news oh your room isn’t ready yet I’m like oh ok when will it be ready she’s like I don’t know it can be 5 minutes but it can also be 5 hours you will get a text once room is ready it is now 54 hours later and still have not received that text after an hour and half waiting in their very hot lobby on the very uncomfortable old dated couch which looks like they got by a free giveaway or garage sale of one of their great grand aunts apartment clean out I called Hotels.com because I booked thru them and it took for Hotels.com over an hour to get in touch with someone at their reservation department only to be told that unfortunately they cannot provide a refund because the room is almost ready (I guessed stay tuned the room might still get ready at some point) so dear reader if you’re reading this review and you’re considering staying in this old dump that they call 5 star hotel which I personally think it’s typo from 0.005 star just run fly away from that old stinky shelter looking motel and don’t look back I have not received any refund or any type of communication back from this motel that goes by the name of Dan Hotel Tell Aviv 3 days later I called emailed and trying this now maybe they still operate by fax only who knows besides the fact that they have the rudest staff I’ve ever seen in any motel or even hotel which they claim to be, they place is old and smelled like dead fish and it looked horrible and in that hour and half I unfortunately spent there I watched 6 out 8 parties checking in either walk away or staff getting into arguments with them so to sum this up this place is old and grumpy the staff is rude and grumpy they act like they are forced to be there besides the bunch of kids that work in bell service or valet parking or some other service that they advertise and not provide that were seating on the couches in the lobby taking up all the places and playing games yes games there till manager came to them and told them to be quieter maybe dear manager try to help your paying guest instead of babysitting those kids

It is very distressing to me to feel obligated to write a highly critical review of what used to be the flagship hotel of the Dan group with an international reputation for excellence.
I booked a weekend stay at the Dan reservation call centre for two interconnecting roooms on a full board basis, i.e. evening dinner, breakfast and lunch. I phoned the hotel the day before we were due to come to make a few enquiries including asking the time of the buffet lunch on Saturday. I was told that there would not be a buffet lunch. However, the website offered it and my booking confirmation showed it and would charge for it. I find it incomprehensible that the call centre could advertise and accept a booking for something that the hotel is not prepared to provide. Surely when the hotel saw the booking on their computer they should immediately have contacted me to explain that lunch was not available and that they would amend the booking to half board. This did not happen .Only after speaking to the manager of the reservation centre was my booking amended. It should not have been necessary for me to make a big fuss to sort this out. It should never have happened. It makes me wonder about the competence of the management and integrity of the hotel if something like this coukd be allowed to happen. I should also mention that the hotel tried to suggest that they would offer me free of charge a dairy a la carte lunch instead of the luxurious buffet lunch instead of a refund for the buffet which would be worth double to treble.
As if what I have described was not bad enough, it was compounded by the following. We had booked two rooms on a low floor which the hotel acknowledged. However, when we checked in they did not want to give us the low floor which was guaranteed. They kept us waiting while the room was being inspected and eventually we were told that one of the rooms needed maintenance. I asked why that had not been dealt with before we arrived. I had previously been told that one of the rooms was not occupied on the previous night so they should have been inspected/repaired the previous day. There was no answer to this. I insisted on being given an upgrade on the low floor as originally promised but only after I had made a big fuss. These two rooms were very good yet nevertheless we had to complain because the TV did not work. The maintenance man came and fixed it. This illustrates how incompetent the inspection of the room must have been.
It is a great pity that such a prestigious hotel with a previously exceptional reputation which provides excellent meals and service can be let down by very poor management. What compounds the difficulties is the lack of good grace in sorting out these problems.
If readers of this report think that this an isolated incident; it is not. On my previous stay I had reported on poor management on that occasion as well.
