I stayed at Artefes Hotel for 8 nights and then returned after travelling around Turkey for another 7 nights. It is a great classic type hotel in the bet position - close to the Blue Mosque, walking distance to the bazaar and tramline. The room was excellent, nice clean bathroom. The terrace has a fantastic view of the Marmara Sea and you can sit up there any time - take up your dinner, take up your morning coffee and enjoy the views over Istanbul. The staff were excellent, Erdal was efficient with the booking and organising a tour for me, Salman very helpful with a great sense of humour and Sercan the young night man was respectful and kind.
The ladies, Guzel and Gul were efficientand the room were cleaned daily
So if you want a great no fuss affordable hotel in a great location you cant go pas Artefes. Highly recommended.

I stayed in this hotel in November 2023. Our twin room was not very clean - bedding and towels were fine, but the windowsill, lights and bathroom could have been a lot better (for example, lumps of soap stuck to the skink that had not been cleaned off).
The shower did not work well and noise from the corridor was bothersome.
Staff appeared friendly but pressured us to take meals and trips with their business acquaintances.
Location and price ok, but I would not return.

I wholeheartedly believe that you would solely regret you decision to visit this hotel which you hopefully do not chose as did I.

Initially, I was greeted with no Wi-Fi which was a reoccurring issue throughout my stay and a situation which has been very strange to me in all my years of traveling across the globe (mostly Pakistan) and one which I have never thought I would ever see to be so prominent in this extremely technology advanced day and age.

Soon after I decided to freshen up, however much to my dismay the overhead shower was not operable and I was forced to use an extremely miniature shower head which looked much better as a bidet/lota.

In addition to these problems me a regular human trying to enjoy my holiday realised that as described the hotel had neither ironing facilities nor the fitness suite they claimed to provide which was apparently closed due to covid 19 which seems to have disappeared in the UK (and around the world) since the very peculiar work events (parties) of Boris Johnson who has also disappeared. But this is not the case in this particular hotel.

Lastly, the washing facilities were terrible and my laundry came back with a very bizarre smell which leaves me bewildered as I never apprehended this to be possible in the case of a laundry that had just been ‘washed’.

To conclude I as you ancestor in this situation and trip advisor am advising you to not ever stay at this hotel even as the last resort in the entire of Istanbul. You’d much rather buy at tent and follow in Ottoman tradition.

Wonderful & nice staff so criticism is not directed at them they work very hard, good location but that's it but as a warning this is a 1 star overpriced hotel should not be taking any guests whilst it is not ready and under renovation & the owner is making the staff's lives very difficult as they are trying their best whilst the owner we assume refuse to invest in fixing all of multiple ongoing issues. Rooms have paper thin walls , they don't change the sheets. Wires and nails hanging out of walls.

Artefe's has been repainted, Artefe's looks better than ever. As always a wonderful energy embraces such a premises of an an elegant, unique, ( renovated Ottoman house of a ) three-storey hotel which is one of the best secrets of İstanbul that I'm sharing online.:

Artefe's located at a quiet street ( which is a must for this wanderer: who needs a five star hotel located in a polluted traffic shocked street unlike Artefe's - a down to earth jewel of an Ottoman house of an hotel located at a mere three blocks away from The Blue Mosque and Aghia Sophia, right,on the heart of Sultanahmed ... .
My room brings me a solace of sorts. So comfy. So practical, Elegant without being chi chi. A bountiful.breakfast at Artefe's breathtaking ( disarming ...) terrace - "teras" - overlooking the Sea of Marmara ( Asian İstanbul and the Prince İslands on the horizon, deserves more than a five stars rating.. But what brings me back to Artefe's again and again is not just the location and the premises alone ( Turkish bath and hamman ( sauna) included) - what brings me back to Artefe's is the service:: not a chi chi one ( let's be honest: a service that is too uptight "perfect" feels like sterile for this traveller), but an unassuming, elegant and hearty one provided by a down to earth staff guided by Murat Taz, the manager of the managers as I call hım - " Murat you are an Ottoman diplomat" -, someone who brings to Artefe's the unique human qualities that makes one to feel at home. Ditto.

We arrived at mid night to be told they didn't have our booking. We insisted that they give us a room as it was late at night and the guy on the reception was not keen and started to agrue with us. We insisted that he phone our booking agent and the hotel manager. After a few phone calls, they found our booking, was lost in their system apparently. We got to the room and felt let down by our booking agent. It looked like a 2 star hotel. We are a couple and there was three single beds, so we pushed two together. When I went to bed, I kept sliding off the bed as the side of the bed had collapsed. Don't know who checks the beds but that one belonged in the bin. As it was now after 1am in the morning and we were exhausted, I had no choice but to accept that horrible bed and try to sleep on the otherside. To say the least I got zero sleep. The floors where dirty and so was the bathroom as there was still human hairs in the shower from the previous guests. The floor in the room is also collapsing and thin. My only good comment was the lady staff in the breakfast dining room was very kind and helpful.

Stay elsewhere.
