The Villa Dadap is a well-maintained guesthouse in the deeply peaceful territory that is Brunei Darussalam. After the blissfully short immigration queue which is very characteristic of Brunei International Airport, we were collected by Mr Battista, the Villa's wonderfully philosophical Italian-in-Residence who later made us a superb spaghetti bolognese. Sadly, Mr Battista has left the Villa Dadap, and it will not be the same place without his relaxed conversation and culinary prowess. The staff of the Villa Dadap can take you sightseeing, whether you want to see nature, national monuments, mosques, or a bit of everything. If the staff cannot take you somewhere, they can quickly make arrangements with a local person who can. We decided early in the morning that we wanted to see the long-nosed monkeys on the River Brunei. An hour later, we were on a small locally-crafted boat on the river heading through dense forest. The pilot not only took us to see the long-nosed monkeys but afterwards he also showed us Brunei's water village on stilts where even the mosques and the schools stand on stilts in the river. Brunei Darussalam is a Muslim country, and guarantees a superb experience for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Brunei's protection of its forests is a beautiful ecological example to the world. And the Villa Dadap is a wonderful little gem of a hostel inside green and tranquil Brunei. We are Muslims and the tour of the city which we requested included stops at beautiful masjids for prayer times, but the Villa Dadap is also perfect for non-Muslims from anywhere on earth. Anybody who stays at Dadap will enjoy the quiet natural surroundings. The Villa is situated at the end of a remote rural lane, yet is a reasonably short drive from the city centre.

We were not able to stay in the place despite the prior payment made. It is very far and hard to find. It is practically located in a jungle and there is nobody to assist you. We (Me and my 75 year old Mom) walked far for an hour under the heat of the scorching sun until a resident of Dadap with his kids passed and helped us. Even him (a resident of Dadap) does not know or heard about Villa Dadap. We searched all over the place but the Villa cannot be found. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE!

The place is very good and the location is very quite. Bel is so accommodating and had been very helpful with directions. There is Jolibee and Thai restaurant that are open until 11pm which is at least 15 minute walking distance. I have seen monkeys nearby but I would not go near them. I am afraid of monkeys due to my experience in Bali. I stayed at a dorm room which I had no issue. You get simple breakfast and it is already included in the booking. If you are type of a person that likes to run, you can start your run from the villa and around Jalan Dadap. I will definitely stay here again! Thanks Bel for the wonderful stay!

Reality is you are 20mins drive from the main centre, 40mins walk from two restaurants (just jollibee and a Thai). The reviews about free lifts are just not true - airport pick up, a one way lift to/from town and trip to night market each cost 20BR$. The bus is only 1BR$ but finishes at 6pm so it's really restrictive. We felt too much like we were in someone's house and couldn't relax, someone was often napping on the sofa. Breakfast is cheap white bread, jam and cornflakes. The room was basic but fine, however the headboard had mildew that smelt bad. We paid 30BR$ each for the proboscis monkey tour, which was really just a river tour (seeing a few monkeys from far away) with a random boat man who spoke no English. I wish we'd checked trip advisor for an actual tour company offering a proper tour for the same price. You can get a boat yourself anywhere on the river for half the price we paid the guesthouse. If just visiting for a few days you're much better off staying at a hotel in town so you can walk to all the sites.
