We stood here for nearly three months because of working in Lusaka. We had email contact before coming here and became a fair long term stay offer. The staff at Kalulu Backpackers was very friendly, the rooms big enough, the double rooms as well as the dorms and the food in the restaurant is very good. There is a nice little pool and a bar in front where you can meet locals as well as other tourists.

The accommodations were great. The bar was nice. However, the wifi wasn't working and the staff didn't seem interested in helping us find an alternate source of Internet. Hard to find, due to poor marking (use your phone's GPS when going there).

This place is located in a safe good area in lusaka Rhodes park. Neat north mead shopping centre and levy mall. The main house is old and needs some attention. I stayed in the double rooms behind the main house the rooms. Rooms are clean plenty hot water good beddings. The bar has a good vibe. And close late some times especially on weekends if sleep is what you want don't be in the room too close to the bar

My colleague and I arranged to stay here for 2.5 months while on internship. We were tricked by the hostel owner into paying over our agreed on rate because we took his word on the exchange rate - people staying for a few nights would not notice this but since we were there for so long, it cost us over $200USD. When we confronted the hostel owner, he said that it was "just business" and refused to refund us our money. We had also arranged an airport pick-up through the hostel, but the driver was late to pick us up. When we arrived at the hostel, we were greeted by drunk staff, and we later learned that our driver was late to the airport because the person who was supposed to have picked us up got too drunk and passed out.

We stayed in the 2 room cottage for the majority of our stay. We were told we would have a private kitchen but that was not the case - all guests are told that they can use the kitchen in that cottage. This means that we had people going through our stuff and leaving the kitchen a mess, leading to major ant infestations. Although, I can hardly blame people for using the private kitchen - the oven in the communal kitchen doesn't work and people are constantly waiting for a chance to use the 2 working burners, not to mention the cockroaches crawling all over the place because of the mess. Food can be ordered, but the menu is limited and they are constantly out of ingredients (the chefs are super nice, though!). During my whole stay, I did not once see the 'free breakfast' - the hostel owner told us when we asked that the free breakfast of bread and jam could be found in the fridge, but it was never there when I looked.

I did have some warm showers! But the shower in the cottage has a huge spot of black mold on the ceiling - if you have the water pressure too high, the spray from the shower will hit the mold spot and drip on you...not very healthy!

The bar at the hostel does not always follow their curfew, so music and talking has gone late some nights. Aside from that, people are regularly honking throughout the night to get into the gate and the gate itself is loud - not much can be done about this but it does not lead to a sound sleep.

It is a good location, but there are plenty of hostels in the area (one right down the street and a few within 1-3 streets over - these have full restaurants and great environments). I would recommend staying elsewhere.

Kalulu Backpackers is a very friendly and nice place and quite close to the city center and all sights. The people who work there can assist you with everything and there is even a personal chef to cook what you would like to eat for a very decent price.

For the rest the accomodations ranges from (cheap) camping to a self contained room for your you and your friend or partner.

If going to Lusaka.....a MUST stay!!

This was a great hostel. They were excellent with contacting us prior to arrival and helping out as much as possible with transportation. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. The rooms are pleasant and comfortable, and the kitchen has all the essentials. The bar is nice. It does not get too loud and they close on time. We stayed at a couple other hostels in town (including ChaChaCha) and found this to be the best one. We would definitely stay there again. Thank you very much!

After hopping from one hostel to the next in Lusaka, I knew I had found my base camp the minute I cycled into Kalulu Backpackers. It's exactly what a long term traveler needs: the prices are fair, the rooms are clean, the staff are friendly and the wifi reaches to the garden pool :) The best thing about Kalulu however is that it doesn't feel like a tourist trap. Unlike the other backpackers, the owners of Kalulu are some of the most accommodating people you will meet and on weekends the bar/restaurant is always a jolly mix of friendly locals, travelers, and the occasional curious rabbit...thanks for getting it right! ;)

This place got reasonable reviews but it was a bit of a dump to be honest. The dorm was cramped and a bit shabby looking. It was not possible to get food there but there is another hostel at the bottom of the road that had a good restaurant. Unless there is nothing else I would not stay here.

Stayed here 1 night and was enough. Hostel dirty and tired which a shame as is new. Tje staff can barely be bothered to help you, if you can find one and The bar is unbearably loud till late at night and you can't sleep. I guess if you want somewhere dirt cheap and dont plan on sleeping then is worth a look

A group of us stayed here for a night while travelling through Lusaka and we wished we hadn't!
The large room we had was damp, with mouldy patches on the roof. The small room was worse, the bed blocked the door and the room was very dirty. Toilets didn't flush and doors didn't lock. The hostel looks nothing like the pictures online.
Also the "free breakfast" on the website doesn't exist. Despite being told by the owner that it was included and there would be no problem. When we attempted to contact him about this in the morning, the staff (who were quiet helpful) rang him with our querie, and he didn't bother getting back to us at all.
