We had three single night stopovers required in Lusaka and chose this place for its promised peaceful location away from city centre. Contact was by email and always prompt and courteous.
Each pick up and drop off was on time and in a comfortable Minibus driven by a friendly and safe driver.
We had booked two Miombo de-luxe Chalets which were spacious, clean and well furnished. Bathroom en suite (self contained) and very spacious with wash basin, sunken step in shower/bath, with hot water.
Complimentary drinking water with tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There was no safe.
The bed had nets and was comfortable. It was summer so warm at night but extra bedding was available if needed. It was not.
Breakfast was included in the price and cooked to order. There was a menu but chef was flexible and we could just order what we wanted. There was also a breakfast buffet bar for cereals and juice etc.,
We ate in the Restaurant each evening and the choice whilst not huge was very comprehensive. Good wholesome food.
The staff deserve special mention for their friendly manner and flexibility. We asked, we got. We had two friends visit us when there and there was no fuss or trouble in having two extra spaces at dinner and even a slight extension to the bar hours was no problem.
Whilst the power outages suffered by Zambia struggling supply were a nuisance the lodge cannot be blamed for this and made every effort to get alternate power generated.
If there was a downside it was the 6 km drive from the tar ona somewhat bumpy road but the birdlife in the Lodge grounds was a good compensation.
Nice place and we will certainly return.

My long awaited holiday in Zambia started with a transit night in Lusaka. Gladly, I decided to stay in the Pioneer Lodge. After a long flight from Singapore via Johannesburg, I was very happy to be reliably picked up from Lusaka Airport. The drive was nice. Staff at the lodge is very friendly and I could immediately start relaxing with a chilled Windhoek Lager and enjoy the bar, restaurant and pool area. Had a great dinner and drinks and could peacefully rest in the room. Actually, it was more like a small house :-) Comfy bed. Immediately had the African feeling. Transport early morning at 5am also no issue. Would always come back.

We stayed in the campground. Had a lovely spot near a patch of bamboos. The pool, the toilets, the grounds were amazing, such an oasis. The dinners prepared by Mr. B were mouth watering; relax in the eating area and allow Mr. B time since he prepares your meal from scratch. Mwangala watched over us making sure our needs were met, she was always ready to help us. And Dennis made time to chat with us about our trip and plans. We are on a three week road trip and his insights are greatly appreciated. Dennis was a gracious host, telling us about adventures he had growing up and sharing knowledge of the area and sights to be seen nearby. He truly made us feel welcome. Best to phone ahead and get proper directions to Pioneer Camp - the signage is poor and GPS tools may send you down a private road that is now closed to the public.

This was my third trip to Zambia, and as before, I stayed at Pioneer for one night before flying to Mfuwe, and for one night before coming back from Mfuwe. And as before, I totally enjoyed Pioneer. Its located just 30 minutes away from the airport, outside of Lusaka, surrounded by nature. Booking a pick-up transfer is very much recommended, if you dont self-drive with a 4x4 vehicle.

You can stay in chalets (standard and the more comfortable miombo chalets), tents, in a family house or camp. There is a nice garden, a small pool, a restaurant and bar. Staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is really nice. Its great value for money, and I would always return there.

This is our second time here and we liked it the first time. Second time have been rather disappointing.
1- They barely had any food available that’s highlighted on the menu
2- We booked a triple room and at breakfast we were told only 1 person could have full English breakfast. The other 2 would have basically continental (wasn’t the case last time so would have been nice to know beforehand that things changed)
3- THE NOISE. Oh my goodness the noise from the staff right by our chalet was unreal. 6am and they were shouting and laughing on top of their voices, we left home so we would relax and not have to be up at 5/6am. We called reception and we were told oh sorry I’ll advise them. The noise didn’t stop. We gave up and obviously we couldn’t even sleep at this point. Anyway we spoke to reception about this again and got an apology, lo and behold the next morning same thing. This time we didn’t even bother to complain. We just woke up and made our back home. Rather disappointing

Pioneer camp is just a few km off the main road and has a restaurant and swimmingpool. Ablutions are decent, especially compared to other campsites we have seen in Zambia. Staff was very friendly en kind. So far so good. But in the end you want a good night rest and that's where things go wrong at Pioneer camp. Through the night you constantly hear dogs, roosters and cows. And even earplugs won't safe you. So if you are looking for some sleep, this is not the place to be.

We stayed 5 nights, I loved the peace of the lodge and the distance between the rooms, all facilities and extra were supplied on request, beautiful area around for walks. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The chef out did himself on the traditional meal, it was delicious.
We will be back

Ideal location on the outskirts of the madness of Lusaka traffic. Were met at reception by very friendly staff. The lodge was spacious and clean. Great food. Great looking swimming pool, which we never experienced as we arrived late. The Chef prepared an excellent take away breakfast for us as we were leaving early in the morning.

Visited Pioneer camp twice during our visit in Zambia. The staff are super friendly and incredibly helpful! Had problem with our car on our way back from Mfuwe, Zambia and didn't know where we could get it fixed since it was our first trip to Zambia. The manager really went out of his way to help us in our time of desperate need! Very grateful we stopped there!
