I'm a loyal Marriott guest so it was natural to book this hotel when visiting our college son who is completing his studies in Zambia and who I hadn't seen for 18 months. I booked a room with two queen beds for my husband, my son, and me. Imagine my surprise when I learned upon check-in that I would need to book a second room since my son is over the age of 12. My husband and I were exhausted from our travel from the U.S. and my son was concerned that we were being taken advantage of because we were from the U.S. I went ahead and booked the second room because we needed to get some rest! The rooms were very average and for the price of the two rooms, I think we've could've stayed in one room at a better hotel where we could've remained together. I was very disappointed. The personnel were polite but didn't seem to be inclined to offer even a nominal discount on the second room or provide another amenity which would've taken the sting of having to pay for the second room. I wish I had stayed somewhere else!

From the outside, this hotel looks super boring. However, its consistently priced at bargain levels, the staff are helpful, and the rooms comfortable. Wifi worked well, my room was comfortable and quiet, and the breakfast buffet had nice variety from day to day. The location is pretty good, just a few minutes walk from multiple shopping malls & dining options.

I'd definitely stay here again if I end up in Lusaka.

Wonderful service, and I felt totally comfortable as a woman staying alone. The reception staff was friendly and accommodating. The room was a typical, familiar Marriott room. The food at the breakfast buffet and at the bar was all good.
It was an easy walk over to the East Park Mall.

I stayed at the Protea Hotel for two nights while in Lusaka for business. I had a reservation at the InterContinental however I was unable to stay there due to a shortage of rooms. Cancelled flights meant that guests were not leaving the InterContinental. They arranged my reservation and transportation to the Protea. The staff at the Protea were friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The rooms were spacious and clean. The air conditioning unit in the room was noisy. I ate at the restaurant and the food was good.
The hotel is conveniently located close to two shopping malls.

Stayed here for a week on business. Rooms are spacious and clean, staff are friendly and the breakfast buffet is generous. Wifi is patchy but worked in the bathroom at least! The hotel is well situated with plenty of eating options and ATMs nearby. Haven't stayed in the adjacent tower hotel so can't compare. All in all a reasonably priced, solid, African hotel.

This hotel is just a money making ploy. We arrived in Lusaka in the blistering heat and had to move rooms 3 times because of what we thought to be faulty air conditioners. What we uncovered from different Accounts is that the entire hotel's air conditioning system does not work. Coming from humid climates we are not unfamiliar to heat but this experience was just shocking. At times the rooms was even warmer than the outside air! Eventually we walked over to the Protea Tower hotel and found a hotel that was not only cheaper than the hole that is the Protea Lusaka but with way more facilities band lo and behold properly functioning air conditioners!!!

Despite this terrible experience, the staff (in particular Joseph) was very accommodating and I feel for them having to deal with irritated guests through no fault of their own.

Don't waste your time with this hotel. Go next door to Towers!

This hotel was quite good.
I liked it's location, food and general room decor.

What I disliked was that the rooms had no balcony and the fact that on Fridays and Saturdays there was noise from the adjacent mall to late at night. If you are staying Sunday to Thursday this hotel is good.

The hotel is located in the Arcades Mall, where there are a number of good restaurants and other typical mall facilities.

Two things, which are a bit negative, are the price and the noise from the night club below the hotel. You can expect to pay around USD220.00 per night. It is advisable to make use of a Prokard, which will allow you up to 10% discount. You can get the Prokard on the Protea Hotel's website. Breakfast is included in the price.

If you like night clubs, then the club at the hotel is the ideal place to go. There's a lot of thumping and loud music until the early morning on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There is also a large casino at the hotel with lots of machines, poker and black jack.

The rooms are typical hotel rooms, but in a smart condition with everything that you need. Free wifi internet in all rooms, is included. The television sets need to be replaced with something new.

Other malls, such as Manda Hill mall and the city area, are nearby.

Outside the hotel you will find some good taxis to take you around. Make sure that you have some local currency (Kwatcha), because the taxi drivers are not too keen to accept foreign currency for payment. There is a currency exchange facility in the Spar supermarket right at the hotel.

There is no health club at the hotel, but on each floor, in front of the lift, you will find two spinning machines. There is also a small pool on the first floor.

The breakfast is just great, with too much to eat. You will love it!! Other meals are served in the restaurant during the day. Inside the mall there are a number of good restaurants if you want to spend a bit less on food. The mall area is safe during the day and night, with lots of security guards.

Lusaka, in general, is safe with a low crime rate. Driving is on the left side of the road and you need an international driver's license.

The new hotel building, next to the existing hotel, will open in April 2014.

Enjoy you travels!

Angel

Good hotel, room price is excessive for the overall quality of the room. However the rooms are very clean, spacious, and the beds are very good. The menu in the hotel is limited but the breakfasts are very ample and good. Overall a comfortable and good hotel but a bit on the expensive side in terms of value for money. Airport shuttle is also quite handy! On a final note, the wifi service is horrible!

The hotel is in a good location in Lusaka and close to the airport. I stayed 2 nights but on separate nights.

If you are a Prokard member use it and you will be given a better room on the top floor looking away from the shopping centre.

Breakfast was as expected with a buffet set up. As expected the bacon is boiled and undercooked as is the sausages - all tastes the same. Dinner was ok - stick to the basics.

The room was good with wifi, comfortable bed and ample bathroom. Security on all floors.

Nice entrance from shopping mall so can reach the mall without walking through the outside of the hotel.

The pool is enough to get wet but not to swim.

Quite expensive - similar price to the Raddisons that is substantially nicer.
