Where do I start, Kigali Serena Hotel is one of the best hotels we have stayed in, the rooms were of good sizes and views of the hills were amazing. The rooms were very clean and had every amenity needed for a comfortable stay. Only thing needed was maybe a bedside lamp for reading in bed. The first evening we ate at the buffet in the restaurant which had a vast selection of foods and was very good. We then went to the lounge and enjoyed the live music being played and the great singer. Thank you Agnes for making our breakfast experience run smoothly every morning from remembering what teas we enjoyed and explaining the dishes we were not familiar with. Thank you also Ngorabahizi for your professionalism and helpfulness. I would also like to thank Rukundo on the Concierge Desk that took us around Kigali and the sights sharing his vast knowledge of the city and patiently explaining. Thank you so much to Sylvia from the Maisha Spa who managed to release all the tension stored in my back and shoulders which I have suffered for a while. Even after moving to another location in Kigali I made another appointment to come back to the Marisha for the Sauna, steam and another massage. I will be back when I am in Kigali and I appreciate all the efforts of the staff. Thank you.

Just returned from a two night stay at Serena Kigali. We had three rooms. The first night was our “quarantine” night to wait for our covid results. This was not a problem at all since the hotel is very nice and all covid protocols in place. Your temperature is taken at entrance along with sanitizing of shoes and hands. Everyone was wearing masks. After check in you wait in your room for results. We checked in around 10:00 pm and results were back early in the morning. The hotel brings breakfast to your room. There is a very nice restaurant with seating outside over looking the pool. Everything nice and spacious, it felt very safe. All staff very professional and friendly. A great location, it was very quiet at night yet close to everything.

Spending a night of quarantine due to Covid travel protocols was made to be a much better experience than expected. The Serena did a wonderful job and made a very safe environment. The room service was excellent and once we had received our negative PCR Covid result we were free to move around.

The hotel is nice, the rooms are good and the food is well prepared. Unfortunately the service is very bad, specially the room service. We had to stay 24 hours on our room, waiting for COVID tests, and the room service never worked correctly. We make an order and always get different things. It seemed they didn’t understand what we requested, and we request from a pre defined menu! The strangest thing was one night that we asked for a bottle of water and they said the hotel was out of stock on water!!!

Dear Mr. Tiago, Thank you for taking time to give us feedback following your resent stay with us. I would like to apologize for Kigali Serena Hotel not “living-up” to the Serena Hotels brand promise. The service lapses highlighted have received our full attention and rest assured that remedial measures have already been instituted to avert a recurrence in future. We hope that you can give us another opportunity to be of better service to you in the future Warm Regards Daniel Sambai General Manager

Serena Hôtel in Kigali is a sure thing . The team has that rare quality : consistency . Every time we stay we are satisfied because the service is quality and
the staff go out of their way to remember your preferences (for me it’s large four post mosquito nets because I sleep with the Windows wide open and love the fresh air) & makes life easy. Knowing ahead of time that the hotel you reserved will provide excellent service is such a relief , as all main cities Kigali can be stressful but Serena is a haven .

We didn’t stay at the hotel because we went to the family here in Kigali.

We tried several pools, some of them in a hotel and others in public places (Circle).

Having some great experience in pool hotels, I have to say that I was very chocked…

We paid for 3 kids (2 x 4 years and 1 x 7 years).
Surprise we paid 63.000 Rwf = 60$ for 3 kids !
Even the Marriott hotel wasn’t expensive !
I’m not against to pay but for a half day it’s a bitter experience …

Let’s be honest … a normal room is around 250$… knowing that for each Adult it’s 40$ / a day for enjoying the pool.
I’ll advise everyone to take a room even it’s for one day but a least you’ll enjoy the full experience.

Dear Steenokkerzeel, Thank you for your feedback and we have noted your concerns with regards to the swimming pool charges. We are delighted that your kids enjoyed the swimming pool and that the major concern was the pricing of the day pass for swimming. We apologize for the inconvenience and you can rest assured that your comments have received our full attention and will be taken into consideration. Warm regards Daniel Sambai General Manager

After about a 20-30 minute taxi ride from the airport, we arrived at the hotel. Before entering the hotel, you have to go through security which made us feel very safe. The entrance is impressive.

Check-in went smooth. The first room that was offered smelled of food but we reported this to the reception and they immediately gave us another room.

The room was nice and large although the furniture was a bit outdated. Breakfast and dinner buffets where excellent.

The garden area within the hotel with the swimming pool was beautiful and made us feel that we were in an oasis within the hectic city of Kigali. This together with the absolutely friendly staff made is feel very much at home which is why we give this hotel five stars.

The Serena is an excellent hotel that lives up to the five star expectation (also comparing internationally). Friendly staff providing great services … although not smiling a lot. The pool area is an oasis in the busy city centre. Food in the restaurants is great though a little pricey conpared to other hotels - not compared to European standards though. There a Serena approved taxi’s always waiting that can bring you to the city or to the airport (35 USD for an airport transfer).

It is sad to see a once glorious hotel deteriorating as quickly as the Kigali Serena seems to be.
Service is slow and at many times uninteresting in the guest. As an example the breakfast host who was more interested in her phone and viewing video clips whilst on duty, than actually attending to the guests.
The product itself is getting very old and tired, and in dire need of a much needed renovation. Rooms are spacious but poorly maintained and serviced. No coffee in the room despite there being an Nespresso machine, and many sachets of milk powder and tea yet nothing to make one a cup of coffee in the morning.
Perhaps the most disappointing experience was the lack of hot water both in the evening and in the morning, just a tepid stream of water which is very very poor for a 5 star hotel

We spent our first night in Rwanda on this trip at Kigali Serena Hotel and it was very comfortable. The rooms are beautiful, the food is exceptional and service is excellent. It was a great place to decompress from the flight from Serengeti in Tanzania after many days in bush camps. The buffet food service was exceptional with an incredible variety of entrees at dinner, wonderful desserts and very nice salads. I would stay here again.

Unfortunately, no. It's about a 3 hour drive to the mountains. It's best to make arrangements to stay locally in the gorilla area. Additionally those facilities can assist you in getting the appropriate permits. That being said, the Serena is an excellent hotel to stay at before/after your trip to the mountains. It's also a great base to explore Kigali, which is deserving to explore for ate leasta day or two.
