This hotel/apartment is the best place to stay in Kigali. Only 5 mins walk to the centre. Suites are the best, equipped with Kitchen and a large living room. Very friendly staff. Also best prices. They also have an underground parking. I definitely recommend this place!!

I would prefer to have a "good" rating between "average" and "very good" for this one...

I stayed 3 nights in an apartment with two rooms, living/dining room, and kitchen. Most outstanding in a positive way was the friendly and helpful staff. The buffet breakfast was wonderful, including hot food for a vegan every day (though some days more than others), a nice spread of fresh fruit, fresh squeezed juice, cereal, and assorted breads. I only wish there had been a whole grain bread option. The decor is sort of run-of-the-mill, nothing special, but clean and in good condition. There were ramps so that it appeared everything would be wheelchair accessible. Good number of hangers in the closet so that I didn't have to ask for more (Probably would have to with a longer stay.)

The internet was not powerful and did not function occasionally, but generally was adequate. Lots of power outlets in convenient locations.

No air conditioning in the apartment, but screens were in good condition, and I opened up windows to cross ventilate and remained comfortable.

Bonus: There was bird that sang outside the bathroom window each morning, calling to his friend in the distance who would respond in kind. Absolutely lovely!

Room for improvement: The kitchen was not functioning (gas, fridge disconnected). The window screens wouldn't lock shut. The shower had some issues with drainage. And, worst, there's no place to set toiletries, etc. in the bathroom (I dragged in a dining chair and used it as a table)! The furniture in the living/dining area was large for the space, giving a "crowded" feel.

Me and my husband had a 3 months assignment in Kigali, so we choose to live in one of Hill View apartment and we had enough time to make an objective opinion.
The hotel is really nice, the rooms are nice, clean and well furnished. Hill View has a very good location in the city center. The hotel provide bath accessories like shampoo, soap, shower gel, shower caps, slippers and this is very important.
The personnel and the management is really nice and ready to help whenever you need.
Our window had the view to the neighbors yard with an avocado tree in front, so we were lucky to enjoy the birds songs every morning.
The cleaning personnel is very receptive to the clients needs. The Manager of the personnel Mrs Mukeshimana is a wonderful person, caring and keeping everything under control.
I saw that there are reviews with the breakfast. Indeed, the kitchen in this hotel is not the best, but Rwanda in general is not brilliant in good fine food. The breakfast is quite acceptable, there are boiled eggs, banana bread which they call cake, fresh fruits, soups, yogurts, juices and the best African ginger tea in the city! The restaurant staff is also very nice and friendly.
We had one negative experience with the clothes cleaning, but it was solved with the Management and hope this experience will help them to improve their services.
If I have the chance to be back in Kigali we will definitely back to Hill View.
P.S. In the nights we used to walk on the nearest streets to Hill View and to take dinner at a very good Indian restaurant 10 minutes walk , Zhana Khazana.

Stayed for 4 days in June 2015
Internet: It is on perhaps for 2-3 hours per day. the rest of the time, expect it to be off. If you do stay here (suggest you do *not*) and need internet, go to the mall nearby (UTC) and get a sim card / router from MTN instead of the headache of trying the ten networks to see if by chance any works.

Location / rooms: The rooms by the road are quite loud, with gaps in the space between the door and the floor. you will hear traffic from 6am. even on the weekend. However, one plus side: nearby the President's residence so it's very secure (as is all of Kigali!!)

Food: Avoid the restaurant. even simple things (bolognaise, shrimp scampi) are difficult. The breakfast muffins have spices (like rye) and garlic. Otherwise the fruits is wonderful. They are supposedly changing chefs. I wish him luck.

Service: the hotel has horrible management and only 2-3 team members that care about customer service. EXAMPLE: I ordered an airport shuttle for 2am, and asked them to have everything ready receipt wise. the receptionist started to yell at me about the receipts not being ready until a certain time. and i asked for whatever he could have. At 2am, i unfortunately overslept my alarm. The receptionist did not call. Instead when i called at 530am, he laughed at me and said i didn't ask him to call. EXAMPLE 2: After the housekeeping accidentally threw away a (refillable) bottle of expensive facewash, that was not in the trash or on the floor, the manager --- after i had already told the story to three people -- called and asked if i can tell them the amount so they can deduct it from the cleaner's salary. They clearly underpay this woman. That was not an option. The manager and hotel didn't take responsibility for their poor oversight.

I came to Kigali expecting to stay at Hill View for only a few nights until another hotel recommended by a colleague became available. I found Hill View spotlessly clean and all the staff were very welcoming. The quality of the food in the restaurant is excellent and the prices compare well with food in similar establishments. The hotel made me a good offer to move to an apartment and I have spent nearly a month here now and have never regretted staying here.

I stayed at the Hill View Hotel for six nights, and I enjoyed my stay. The hotel itself is beautiful, well-maintained, and the level of customer service is high. I booked a king-sized room which was very large, included a large work desk, wifi was perfect. hotel located in the city center. People nice and service great. Room and bath large. Clean carpet, fresh towels, sheets, and blanket changed every day. Continental breakfast and lunch/diner are also great. I will definitely come back!

I have stayed at Hill View Hotel for two months now, in August and September 2014. The hotel is quite new and the rooms and everything else are in immaculate shape. Central location, a good restaurant, high quality TV and excellent wi-fi are some features which the business traveller welcomes.

But what really stands out is the super excellent service which is the best I have ever experienced anywhere. In fact this is the first review I write about anything so my experience has been exceptionally good.

All staff, management, reception, cleaning staff, guards, waiters, yes everyone, is working with seemingly a singular goal in front of their eyes, namely how to best make the guests happy. In some places “good” service is given robot-like as instructed from the last training course but at Hill View Hotel you can feel that the service is given from the heart.

I can therefore heartily recommend Hill View Hotel for any visitor to Kigali.

Hill View is not a luxury hotel, but a functional option when Serena and Mille Collines are booked. It's the new kid on the block, and staff work hard to make a loyal client out of you. The service is impeccable and polite. The rooms are basic, apartments are very spacious, so could be an option for those staying long term. The apartments have a living room with TV, a kitchenette and a bedroom. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of the key attractions.

The hotel is on the main road facing hills. The rooms seem to be recently refurbished with good quality mattresses, bathroom closets, and showers. Most of the rooms have the hill view. The breakfast in the morning is served with limited varieties but well laid restaurant. The staff are polite and the property is clean. I am sure to stay in this place again. It fits my budget and delivers the desired quality.

The Hill View came to my rescue twice in a recent trip, firstly giving me a room when Mille Colines had double booked, then taking in five of my Ugandan teammates at four in the morning when another hotel had double booked.

Good location, clean and Emanuel and his team of locals are extremely friendly.

Breakfast on the terrace was lovely. all at a decent price.

They are seeking 4*, it is certainly a solid 3*

Would use again.
