Namib Dune Star Camp is situated on the crest of ancient sand dunes, overlooking the spectacular landscape of the Namib Desert. Best described as a soft adventure camp, Dune Star Camp offers the thrill of being out in the desert yet provides luxuries like soft beds and hot showers. The intimate camp has nine cabins, with a fair distance between them. Each cabin has an en-suite bathroom.

We absolutely loved our stay at Dune Star and would recommend. When we arrived we weren’t too sure of exactly what we had booked! If more information was provided on their website then we wouldn’t have even hesitated at the cost of this stay, as it included sundowner drinks and snacks plus a 3 course dinner and breakfast. We were informed that we’d be transported across to the dune location at x time so we could enjoy the pool facilities and restaurant, bar etc of the main hotel for the time being - all very enjoyable. But once the keep came and took us into the dunes our experience started and it was wonderful. Amazing location. Wonderful lodges, with super comfortable beds which you can roll out on to the decking to sleep under the stars. Lovely dinner and drinks. We enjoyed chatting with the other guests around the dinner table and then having our own peace and quiet in our lodge afterwards. We really enjoyed the night sky talk that took place, around 10 minutes being explained the different stars we can see and some fables/stories of how they’ve got their names. Loved this stay, would definitely recommend!

On arrival at Namib Desert Lodge they couldn't find my booking - luckily I had everything needed. Communication in terms of where luggage is picked up and when you'll be collected to depart for Dune Star really needs some work. If I didn't ask, we probably would have missed it. It's a short drive in thick sand with some beautiful landscapes on the way. On arrival at Dune Star you're told how the events of the evening will unfold. Basically, you'll meet at the restaurant for sundowners and snacks, afterwards, you'll have a three-course meal and then you can do a short dune walk with the group. I would have given this 5 stars if there were other options for dinner. Perhaps a picnic basket or having dinner in the room. Sitting at a long table with strangers is not my preference for dining. The time I spent in the room/on the balcony looking at the stars was my favourite. The bed was really comfortable and the bedding was warm and snuggly throughout the night. This was hands-down the most memorable sleep I've ever had. There is something special about waking up in the middle of the night and seeing the stars.

What a beautiful experience here - would not hesitate to recommend, as it was our favourite accommodation we stayed in during our three weeks in Namibia. From the drive through the beautiful desert landscape to get to the chalets, complete with wildlife viewing, to the amazing perk of being able to roll your bed out onto the deck, really a one-of-a-kind experience. Both the three-course meal and the sunset views here were a highlight of our trip.

The location of this amazing place looks like from another planet. We enjoyed so much the stay, the people and the nature around us! What was really nice was the fact that on that evening we (me and my son) were the only guest for the dinner. And the hosts were 4 people, all of them smiling and joking. Very curteous and simple in the same time! Loved the food too! But the best is the amazing view: during the night you can see a really stary sky that shows you where we really are in this universe, then in the morning is so calm and peaceful! Amazing!

This was a very nice experience - sleeping under the stars. The food was very, very good. Furthermore, the staff were excellent and gave us good service. I can recommend the Namib Dune Star camp anytime and would visit the camp again.

We stayed at the Namib Dune Star Camp in September 2022 and it was the highlight of our 10 day trip to Namibia. The remoteness of the camp, nestled ontop of red dunes over looking the desert was spectacular. The views blew away our expectations. From an accommodation perspective, we were welcomed to the Namib Desert Lodge with drinks by the reception team which was a lovely start and allowed to hang around the pool before the shuttle drive to the star camp at 5pm. The drive itself is short 20-30 minutes depending on the groups desire to stop and take photos. Herds of Oryx were scattered across the landscape which was beautiful to see. Upon arriving at the camp we had juice served by the staff and were given our bags to take to our room. After a brief room break we headed back to the deck for a sunset walk with Nali our guide and sundowners drinks on the deck. The walk was interesting and enjoyable if not a bit short (15-20 minutes around the camp). Sundowners with snacks was followed by a 4 course dinner. We then retreated to our room to enjoy the star lit sky and rolled our bed out onto the deck. Waking up to the sunrise the next day was amazing and that period of looking over the desert snuggled in a very comfortable bed felt very luxurious. In short, if you have the cash to spend this is well worth the cost merely for the bed-on-the-deck experience and incredible views. If you are looking for privacy request cabin 9. We had the best views for the sunrise as the other cabins faced 90-180 degrees the other way (and had the better sunset views). General feedback for Gondwana: 1. Nali was a lovely guide and we really enjoyed him sharing his knowledge of the desert. 2. The tempo of the evening was slightly strange. We felt either rushed or waited too long for things. Recommendation: Provide guests a checklist they can request their sundowner drinks in advance of the walk. This will provide a smoother drink setup as we had 18+ guests and it took a long time for everyone to get a drink. 3. Nali was helping in the kitchen which helped with food prep but it would have been nice for the guests to have a longer sunset walk and access to the guide to ask questions during sundowners. Our guide spent most of his time in the kitchen prepping dinner or breakfast with Ester. To reiterate point 1 - he was great. But felt under-used being in the back. 4. Dinner is not included in the cost when booking, but is a required meal at the accommodation. This landed a surprise invoice the next morning of N$345 per person for dinner. As part of the experience I would've preferred to pay upfront for dinner when booking the accommodation. 5 stars for the bed and views.

The photos are accurate; 9 cute individual "cabins" with shower and beds that roll out onto the deck to provide a night under the stars if you want it. It's fun for what it is. The truck leaves from the Namib Lodge/parking lot at 5pm for a 30 minute drive up onto the hilltop, where the cabins and dining hall are located. Sundowners and dinner follow, plus a walk to spot scorpions and a half-hearted description of the stars. Better to bring your own star chart and enjoy the view from your bed. Dinner was adequate but not amazing (local game, but overcooked); the views during sunset/evening/sunrise are the main attraction. It was warm enough to sleep outside comfortably; additional blankets are provided. Top tips +Wait until bedtime to roll your bed out, to minimize blown dust and sand on the covers. +If you need a shuttle back to the cars earlier than their 8am(?) one, such as if you're going to visit Sossusvlei the next morning, that can be had for a modest 1000 rand per person, well worth it to beat the heat.

Started off with a scenic drive to our secluded destination, we were a small group of 8, this meant that it felt like an exclusive experience. Treated with a guided walk, sundowner drinks and platter, before a 4-course dinner. Being surrounded by endless views makes one feel very special to be at such a magical place. The staff of 3 were engaging and interactive and they even knew our names, which adds an extra personal touch. Waking up at 3am and starring into the starry skies; what a phenomenal experience! (Personalised greeting cards in the rooms that we could take home, can give an even more exclusive touch.) Tip: Request for a Day-room at Namib Desert Lodge when you arrive early, charge your cameras and phones at NDL because there are no charging points in your rooms when you arrive at Dune Star Camp (although you can charge it at the restaurant). This experience you have to at least do once in your life, for it cannot be put into words.

We slept like angels under the starlight. The food that was cooked by Esther was absolutely amazing and Perzivel gave us an exciting tour/walk around the dunes. We very much appreciated that they let us get up to the dune tents a bit earlier, to relax and chill during the afternoon. We even received a honeymoon surprise! Thank you so much Rudy for the warm welcome and good care! We‘d love to come back!
