Pros: For a Maputo hotel, this was reasonably priced for 1 night. It also looked nice & modern inside. At least 1 person in the concierge could speak English. The room that we had was clean with a queen-sized bed, TV, Internet wireless & cable (if you ask for it), & a clean bathroom with hot showers and amenities. The hotel also gave us breakfast that had a variety of fruits, juice, pastries, etc. The service was very friendly and helpful...most could speak English. If we ever came to Maputo in the future, we'd stay here again. I recommend it.

Cons: It was hard to find the location. We had to drive through a lot of back streets that had many pot holes and trash. This hotel was not very obvious to spot even after we asked for directions. Best advice for this is to learn how to ask in Portuguese where Hotel 2001 is or have someone pick you up from the airport.

I happened to be here for my 2 week's stay as all premium hotels were booked thanks to politicos, and to my surprise I would recommend it to every Indian vegetarian if travelling to Maputo.
Best part is buffet style breakfast with wide range of fruits, juice, pastries & cooked ones on order following Indian dishes with lots of vegetarian options, centrally located, not so pricey, moderate & clean amenities including rooms & swimming pool.
WIFI is free but speed is poor.

After driving along dirty, busy streets in very heavy traffic all day; Hotel 2001 was a little oasis to return to after a busy day. We spent 10 days in Maputo and found our stay comfortable and relaxing. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Most could speak English and were willing to do anything to help.
Buffet style breakfast was always enjoyable, nice selection of fresh fruit, breads, pastries and cooked breakfast.
Bedrooms were clean and comfy. Showers good.
Not the best location in Maputo, but good taxi service available from outside hotel reasonably priced.
A nice modern clean hotel

The hotel has its basic needs, comfortable rooms. The lounge area at the entrance can get very busy. There is a small shop opposite the lounge area where can you enjoy a coffee or a soft drink. Some local traders hang around outside and trouble you to by their crafts, belts and wallets. If you are not interested in buying do not ask how much because they will not leave your side until you make a purchase.

Our stay at hotel 2001 was a nice stay for a quick night in Maputo en route to Tofo. Our room, 313, was quite spacious and modern, providing all the basic amenities expected for a hotel - soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, towels, hair dryer and mini fridge. The room was quite clean, aside from finding a nasty condom rapper next to the bed… A/C worked well, although some of our travel mates in other rooms said that theirs did not work. There is a little cafe with a patio out front as well as a full restaurant where we ate both dinner and breakfast. The dinner was good, and breakfast was plentiful - with a full buffet of options to choose from. Wifi worked well throughout the building.

Thanks to the 'extraordinary' LAM flights' schedules and logistics I had to stay just a few hours in Maputo. I arrived at night, the hotel does not look too great at first glance, but once inside, nothing to complain: nice room, with a very comfortable large bed, A/C, TV, good shower and amenities. They provide wifi as well, sometimes is very weak, but it worked! 3rd floor, no elevator as it wasn't working. They have taxis in front of the hotel, 500MT to go back to airport, 10 min ride.

I stayed here on two separate occasions. The first time, there was no problem with the hotel, other than the elevator being out of service, and no airport pickup/drop off as advertised on its website. However, it was the second time I was there when the problem happened.

When I checked in, they had no record of my Hotels.com reservation. I tried to pull it up on my phone, but no Internet access. I then paid in cash for a room. The next morning, as I was trying to check out, they demanded I pay them more money! They conveniently found the reservation form, said I had booked for a higher priced room, so had to pay the difference. I told them it was their problem: no reservation, no wifi, they should have given me the room you get when you book online, etc. However, they kept insisting, saying they had to pay Hotels.com based on the room that was booked. If I didn't have a plane to catch, then I would have held out and not paid. However, just to get out of their from their incessant shake down attempts -- their story didn't add up -- I paid it just to be out of there. Be careful with this place. Have a printout out of your reservation if you plan to stay here. The location is good, and the breakfast is incredible. The rest of the staff was very hospitable, it was the front desk who you need to be afraid of.
