I have never had such a ridiculously awful hotel experience, and I've lived and worked in a lot of developing countries. I booked a two bedroom suite/apartment for an astronomical sum ($450/night). It was on the top floor, but guess what? The elevator only goes to the floor below it, then you must walk up two flights of stairs to the apartment. Super fun with kids and bags. During the entire 5 night stay, only one of the elevators was working. You could wait 5-7 minutes for the maid to release it, only to get on with dirty towels and stop at every floor.

But that's not the best part. The best part was that I arrived with three kids (ages 2, 13 and 16) and manager told me I could not have all the luggage in my room. It was "too much". I certainly arrived with A LOT of luggage, but I was moving countries and had everything I could possibly manage in checked luggage, not knowing when my shipments would arrive. He didn't just say this, he YELLED at me, a paying customer. His solution was that I could have the bags taken up to the apartment two at a time at which point I could go through and take out the items I needed, then the bags would be taken down two at a time and put into storage somewhere else. Imagine I had been travelling all day to get to this point and he wanted me to do this right then and there?

Hotel space in Maputo is extremely hard to find and I tried to find another place to stay and couldn't. The point though, it was I who would be inconvenienced by too many bags in my room, not him. And given that I was moving, things weren't tidily organized with everything for one person in one bag, etc. Eventually I had no choice but to sort through the bags, get some put in storage, others taken to the room.

Then the fun with the service began. Again -- two bedroom apartment for four people. Here is the inventory of glasses in the kitchen: one wine glass, one tall glass, one juice glass. Multiple requests for additional glasses of any sort resulted in no additional glasses being brought during the five horrible nights there. Maid service -- also terrible. Their method was to come early in the morning and collect ALL the towels, but leave NO replacements. Replacement towels came later in the day. Not sure if they only had one set per room or not. The day before we left, they never cleaned the room. The kitchen had dirty dishes, unemptied trash, etc. I'm not a slob, but I was not set up with cleaning supplies to do it myself.

All in all, a horrible place with a manager who does NOT belong in the hospitality industry.

This should be a2-star establishment, not 4 stars, yet they charge like it's 4 stars. Clean enough, although the shower could use a good scrub. There's only Wifi in the lobby. Internet in the apartments is via cable, and extremely slow. Both TVs in the apartment were really old and neither one worked well. Although I asked twice that someone come to fix them, no one came. Even if the TVs worked it is clear that this establishment is not interested in catering to international clients because there were no international news channels such as the ones you find in othe, real 4-star hotels (Cardoso, Avenida, Southern Sun) here in Maputo.
The kitchen was VERY poorly equipped. Only one glass in the whole apartment and no knives. No detergent, kitchen towels, cutting board, nothing.

If you have your own security way to keep your valuables by yourself, if you don’t care about Internet, and if you don’t expect the hospitality of the hotel people, why don’t you stay at this hotel with the cheaper monthly rate?

I, myself, would not like to come back to here again.

My cash kept in the safe deposit box in my room was missing. The door of box was surely locked with the digit password, but it was opened by someone without any damage and my valuable was disappeared.
I claimed the hotel management to contact the police but they refused and insisted me to do by myself. So, I did it.
The manager also stated that he is the only one person who has the master key for the box, and he said since he did not touch my box, anyone can not open the box, then I should forget to close and lock the door, like another person’s affairs.
In addition, even some small properties like cosmetics, cotton puff and so on are also used by someone so often.

I wanted to change the hotel after this, but in that case, the hotel will charge me the day rate which is much more expensive than the monthly rate.
So I had to stay at this hotel for the remaining days.

Then, suddenly the internet system of the hotel was shut down and never fixed up to now for more than 5 days.
The hotel says that they don’t know when it will be fixed.

Again, if you don’t care about the above, this hotel is the one of the cheapest hotels but with the monthly rate.

Booked in by my company on a layover in Maputo. When we checked in we were told the elevator was broken and our rooms were on the 11th floor !! Room was was very shabby. Broken window, mould in the bathroom, broken wall sockets NO toilet paper. Not worth the $83 charged for the over night stay and in fact would never stay here again. WiFi was terrible and hardly able to connect. Would not recommend this place, nothing in this place relates to VIP !!! Avoid it.

The is not wireless internet as they say. There is just in the reception and it does not work well. The internet in the flat goes through cable and its only close to the dining table, be prepare to use internet just in there with you computer only.
Arrival: The worse experience ever. Had to wait with my luggage for 30 mins for the receptionist to show up and 1 hour to get into a flat. They did not have any reservation on my name even though I had an email from the administrator of the hotels confirming the booking. Never apologize for that.

I think some of the reviews have been a bit harsh. I have stayed many times for 6 weeks at a time and find the staff friendly and the room clean and comfortable. It can be a bit frustrating at times with delays in fixing faults (internet, lifts) but that seems to be improving. If you are staying long term perhaps buy a bit of extra kitchen gear to make things easier. It is good value on a monthly rate and the location is good, adjacent to a park with local arts and crafts and two great little café/restaurants. It is good to be able to have an apartment for shorter periods of time without entering into a long term lease

This place had nothing outstanding to offer and will probably not stay there in the future. When i returned at the end of the day I often found I had no towels, toilet paper or my key card would have to get reprogrammed. The kitchen has not enough equipment to prepare a meal. The positives are I got a free bottle of water every day, had free Internet, and you could walk across the street to the restaurant in the park.

Unfortunately we stayed there way to long. It was the worse place I have ever stayed at.
We got things stolen and the lift worked when it felt for working. Suddenly you didn't have any towels and the answer you got was, they are washing them, so you don't have any x-tra?? Always something missing in the kitchenett that you had to ask for it and maybe it came. The beds were so hard that it felt as I was sleeping on a stone.

We checked in at Maputo Hotel on the25th of October, they are very excellent and generous with good hospitality.

Their rooms are clean and comfortable.

We only had a power failure at night that was fixed in few hours time and we also had a dripping ceiling, not sure if it was from the Air conditioner and a loose pipe.

Other than that, our experience was great and the stuff there was very friendly and helpful.

Their WiFi is 99% :-)

The apartments are spacious, modern and clean. A much better option than a long term in a hotel; but beware, bring your own crockery, cutlery and pots, the supply provided is limited. I asked for an apartment not above floor 6 as the elevator is notorious for breaking down (but they do come and get you out quickly when you are stuck inside).

Room Tip: Ask for sea view if you want one, but then you pay more. Sea only visible from higher floors.
