Detailed Reviews
We have often stayed at the AFECC Gloria Hotel for a quick overnight stay.
As you can have an early breakfast at 6am we booked the bed and breakfast deal
We arrived for breakfast at 6.15am to find that they had no stock of anything. There was black coffee. No milk, eggs, toast, fruit. Not a single thing to eat for breakfast in a hotel this size.
When I went to enquire at reception on checking out, the receptionist told me that he had no authority to give me a refund and could not contact the manager on his cell phone as he could not speak English, only Chinese.
I find this totally unacceptable. No one from the hotel has since contacted me.

This is not 5 star hotel. The hotel wanted to increase my rate despite showing them confirmation from Agoda. The room was spacious & nice however there was no hand towels. The mosaic at the bottom of the pool was green, looked like fungi and no deck chairs or any chairs and tables.
Tne breakfast was 3 star, bacon was poor quality and milk used in coffee was aweful. The staff in the dining area are not properely trained and seemed to be afraid and unhappy.

We've stayed here a few times. As long as you don't need anything and have low expectations for customer service, the rooms are new and big. We had two customer service issues this last time: one minor where it took them 45 minutes to bring us a bucket of ice that we had requested at check in and then had to call room service twice to follow up (all times told it's on it's way - on it's way doesn't take 45 minutes; it would have been faster for me to go downstairs and get myself - which I would have done had someone just said they were busy or whatever). The worst was that after my husband and I went downstairs for breakfast buffet, gave our room number, both got plates of food, sat down, someone came over and told my husband that he COULD NOT EAT because only one person was registered for the room. Seriously. I sat there and ate, while my husband sat next to his plate of food but didn't eat. Still unclear what happened: front desk said it's something I did online and that I only indicated one person, restaurant said it's because only one person (me) gave identification when we checked in (no one at check in indicated my husband needed to give his identification or we would have - he was right next to me). We could have paid for the breakfast, but frankly, neither one of us really cares for breakfast but we eat it if it's included. I know the hotel is trying to make sure people aren't taking advantage, but I think a married couple is a safe bet and given the circumstances that we were already seated with plates of food, the correct judgment call and customer service thing would have been to let my husband eat. The front desk called someone to 'ask if my husband could eat' - whoever that person is that got called and said no, that person made the wrong call. We won't stay there again. Not a huge loss for the hotel I'm sure, but hopefully this review helps others choose some of the more customer friendly hotels like the Radisson (amazing food btw) or Polana (amazing ambiance in the common areas). This was not 5-star service. To the restaurant manager's credit, he tried to rectify it by indicating that my husband should, of course, eat his plate of food and offered us a free dinner, but the damage had already been done (I was done with my breakfast, my husband wasn't going to eat while I sat there watching him like he had done with me, and we were upset by then so the leisurely breakfast experience was already ruined.)

I am sorry to say that this hotel is a joke.
No pool, no Spa, no staff, no service, no WIFI, no Room Service and it should not have open.
The place is a total disaster and I was charged over USD200 to stay there per night.
Shame on you.

It is a bit of a far stretch to call this a 5 Star Hotel, for a number of reasons. Firstly, the room was not cleaned properly on any days of the stay, a simple example of this was the rubbish bin was not emptied daily. Secondly, We were there for business and the basic security levels were not existent, where we had stock stolen from one of the venues on 2 separate occasions. Thirdly communication was a major challenge as all the senior managers were from China and had very little to no grasp of English or Portuguese, so most work had to be done via translators.
The rooms were very spacious, but not really properly cleaned on any of the days during our stay, and I don't know if the contractor was paid per light switch but there were so many light switches, it almost took me my entire stay to work out what was for what, and they were also all in Chinese.
The breakfast was average, certainly not what I would classify as 5 star.
If this was rated as a 3 star hotel it would of been acceptable.

Whatever you need, make sure you have enough time to wait for it! Eggs or coffee for the breakfast, laundry service and all other services are extremely inefficient. The reception hung up while I was calling to complain.

It is Such a pity the food was terrible because the service was superb. The beef seemed like recycled leftovers, hard and stale. They didn't bother to source fresh chicken breast for the stir fry and it was full of tiny bones. Definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Maputo.

From the rest of the comments you will see that this hotel is not even close to 5 stars.
We have only been to the restaurant (twice) and on both occasions a complete disaster. Although the menu is on an ipad, its a chinese one and not very user friendly. Food takes quite long, and it is either drenched in Chinese soy sauce of blend with no flavor. Service is beyond terrible, and the whole restaurant has a dirty feel to it, seeing that tables from which costumers have left are simply left with dirty glasses and plates.
Many other Chinese options in town for eating, definitely do not recommend.

Let me begin with the downs, as there are quite few of them:
- Weight scale wasn't working
- No Muslim shower in bath room
- The power is cut as soon as you leave the room, so you cannot charge your equipment or keep them running
- The TV (along with every other device) is in Chinese language
Now the good ones. The hotel is beautiful, attention to detail is impressive, from floor to walls to roof, everything is carefully beautified.
The beach view alone is enough value for money. You can enjoy the sunrise. The bed is very comfy; wardrobe is quite spacious; bathroom is excellent with slippers, dental kit, sewing kit, bath kit, comb; ambiance is very relaxing; the work table is quite good as well; the room locks automatically and is equipped with alarms;
DEDICATED WIFI WITH DECENT BANDWIDTH
